Cytokines and Oxidative Stress Status Following a Handball Game in Elite Male Players

Abstract: Background. Handball is considered an intermittent sport that places an important stress on a player's aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. However, the oxidative stress responses following a handball game remain unknown. We investigated the responses of plasma and erythrocyte antioxidant system and oxidative stress biomarkers following a single handball game. Methods. Fourteen male elite Brazilian handball athletes were recruited in the present study. Blood samples were taken before, immediately, and 24 hours after the game. Results. After the game and during 24 hours of recovery, the concentration of all oxidative stress indices changed significantly in a way indicating increased oxidative stress in the blood (thiol groups and reduced glutathione decreased, whereas TBARS and plasma antioxidant capacity was increased) as well as in erythrocyte (increased levels of TBARS and protein carbonyls). Erythrocyte antioxidant enzyme activities were also significantly changed by handball. Muscle damage indices (creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase) increased significantly after exercise. In addition, IL-6 increased after the game, whereas TNF-α decreased during recovery. Conclusion. This study demonstrates that a single handball game in elite athletes induces a marked state of oxidative stress evidenced by the oxidative modification in plasma and erythrocyte macromolecules, as well as by changes in the enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant system.

Introduction Sport training involves repeated bouts of exercise and high volume of physically demanding practice sessions and competitive games, which may lead to decline on performance, oxidative stress, and inflammation [1, 2]. In fact, an exercise stimulus has been well recognized to induce the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) [2, 3]. In spite of RONS having an essential role as signalling molecules in several cellular pathways, the imbalance in the pro- and antioxidant status can lead to detrimental effect on cellular loss of redox homeostasis and oxidative damage in lipids, proteins, and DNA [3]. In addition, an excessive amount of RONS plays a detrimental role in exercise performance through shifting contractile function or muscle acute fatigue [4]. Regular exercise training has been associated with upregulation of the antioxidant system capacity to cope with the increase of RONS production. Abstract: Actualmente el uso de microorganismos benéficos en la agricultura juega un papel importante para la sostenibilidad de los ecosistemas; es así como la agricultura moderna ha ido incrementando el uso de microorganismos benéficos, tales como: bacterias promotoras de crecimiento vegetal, bacterias fijadoras de nitrógeno, microorganismos solubilizadores de fosfato y hongos Micorrízicos arbusculares (MA). Es reconocido que la gran mayoría de plantas captan los nutrientes por medio de interacciones que establecen con los microorganismos que viven en la rizosfera, especialmente con aquellos que se han denominado simbiontes. De estos simbiontes de la raíz, los hongos denominados micorriza arbuscular (MA), son tal vez las asociaciones más comunes que se establecen con la mayoría de las especies de plantas, y probablemente son, en cantidad, las más importantes. Esta simbiosis ha incrementado su interés, como insumo microbiológico en la agricultura moderna pues facilita la captación de fósforo, un nutriente limitante en la mayoría de los suelos, además de proporcionar otros beneficios para la planta como la tolerancia a situaciones de estrés, estabilidad de los agregados del suelo, captación de metales pesados, entre otros, de tal forma que el hongo heterótrofo se beneficia de los sustratos carbonados procedentes de la fotosíntesis y del nicho ecológico protegido que encuentra dentro de la raíz. Los hongos micorrizicos arbusculares constituyen un insumo microbiológico promisorio para el desarrollo de una agricultura sostenible; su papel en el funcionamiento de los ecosistemas y su potencial como fertilizantes biológicos, son quizás motivos para considerarlos como uno de los componentes importantes de la diversidad biológica del suelo.

Abstract: integral healthcare, one of the doctrinal principles of the brazilian health care system, is one of the main ways to reach high-quality and humanized care. this work aims to analyze the perception of teachers of undergraduate courses who train health professionals at juiz de fora federal university, brazil, when it comes to integral care-oriented training. it is a qualitative research, employing the semi-structured interview technique with teachers of the studied courses. the thematic analysis is suggested as the data analysis method. the reflections on the perception of teachers about the principle of the integral healthcare have been centered on the category "trainingorienting principles of the unified health system". the study results show that teachers express involvement with the brazilian health reform values, in the context of necessary changes in health training.

Abstract: oil palm (elaeis guineensis jacq) soils from-santander puerto wilches-colombia, have low fertility, high aluminum saturation and low density of mycorrhizal fungal spores. behavior mycorrhizal symbiosis was evaluated using native soils with mycorrhizae (ma +) and sterile soils without mycorrhizae (ma -) using brachiaria decumbens and manihot esculenta, both plants have high mycotrophy and ion binding capacity of aluminum. variables were spore density, percentage of mycorrhizal colonization, biomass and root length, concentration of aluminum at leaf and root. was performed (anova) with a two-way general linear model. there were mycorrhizal colonization rates exceeding 70% in b. decumbens in soils with concentrations of 0,6 and 1,4 meq/100 g of aluminum. m. esculenta established mycorrhization at 50% in all four soils. spores were increased up to 200% in the two hosts plants. aluminum concentrations were higher in mycorrhizal roots, while leaf-level values were lower.

Abstract: Suelos dedicados al monocultivo de Elaeis guineensis Jacq en Puerto Wilches-Santander-Colombia, presentan baja fertilidad, altas saturaciones de aluminio y baja densidad de esporas de hongos micorrizicos. Se evaluó el comportamiento de la simbiosis micorrizica utilizando suelos nativos con micorrizas (MA+) y sin micorrizas (MA-), en Brachiaria decumbens y Manihot esculenta, quienes poseen alta micotrofia y capacidad de retención del ión aluminio. Se consideraron las variables densidad de esporas, porcentaje de colonización micorrizica, biomasa seca y longitud radicular, concentración de aluminio foliar y radicular. Se realizó una (ANOVA) de dos vías con un modelo lineal general. Se observaron porcentajes de colonización micorrizica superiores al 70% en B. decumbens en suelos con concentraciones de 0,6 y 1,4 meq/100 g de Aluminio. M. esculenta presento 50 % de simbiosis micorrizica, en todos los tipos de suelo. Se incrementaron las esporas nativas de palma aceitera hasta un 200% en las dos plantas huespéd. Las concentraciones de aluminio a nivel radicular fueron mayores en plantas micorrizadas, mientras que a nivel foliar los valores fueron más bajos. Solos dedicados à monocultura de Elaeis guineensis Jacq em Puerto Wilches-Santander apresentam baixa fertilidade, alta satura o de alumínio e baixa densidade de esporos de fungos micorrízicos. Avaliaram-se o comportamento da simbiose micorrízica usando solos nativos com fungos micorrízicos (MA+) e sem fungos micorrízicos (MA-), na Brachiaria decumbens e Manihot esculenta, plantas com alto grau de micotrofia e capacidade de reten o de íons de alumínio. Considerou-se as variáveis: densidade de esporos, porcentagem de coloniza o micorrízica, biomassa seca, longo da raiz e concentra o de alumínio nas folhas e raízes. Realizou-se uma (ANOVA) de duas vias com o modelo linear geral. Observou-se porcentagens de coloniza o micorrízica acima de 70% na B. decumbens em solos com concentra es de 0,6 e 1,4 meq/100g de alumínio, na M. esculenta apresentam 50% de simbiose micorrízica em todos os tipos de solo. Os esporos nativos foram aumentados até 200% nas duas plantas. As concentra es de alumínio ao nível de raiz foram maiores nas plantas micorrizadas, enquanto que ao nível de folha os valores foram menores. Estes resultados indicam que os hospedeiros usados foram altamente micótrofos e podem ser recomendados para a propaga o de fungos micorrízicos em solos de baixa fertilidade, embora a simbiose varie de acordo com a satura o de alumínio presente nos solos estudados. Development of a Multiplex Real-Time PCR for the Rapid Detection of the Predominant Beta-Lactamase Genes CTX-M, SHV, TEM and CIT-Type AmpCs in Enterobacteriaceae

Abstract: Beta-lactamase resistant bacteria and especially ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae are an increasing problem worldwide. For this reason a major interest in efficient and reliable methods for rapid screening of high sample numbers is recognizable. Therefore, a multiplex real-time PCR was developed to detect the predominant class A beta-lactamase genes blaCTX-M, blaSHV, blaTEM and CIT-type AmpCs in a one-step reaction. A set of 114 Enterobacteriaceae containing previously identified resistance gene subtypes and in addition 20 undefined animal and environmental isolates were used for the validation of this assay. To confirm the accessibility in variable settings, the real-time runs were performed analogous in two different laboratories using different real-time cyclers. The obtained results showed complete accordance between the real-time data and the predetermined genotypes. Even if sequence analyses are further necessary for a comprehensive characterization, this method was proofed to be reliable for rapid screening of high sample numbers and therefore could be an important tool for e. g. epidemiological purposes or support infection control measures.
"Chegou a hora de darmos a luz a nós mesmas": Situando-nos enquanto mulheres e negras

Abstract: the article focuses on disclosures made by black women in an attempt to establish dimensions of their self construction as citizens in a society that discriminates against the gender and race/ethnic group to which they belong. militant women belonging to the black movement in the southern states of the country were queried on the meaning of being women and black. the responses highlight that self representation as black women implies to permanently confront discriminatory attitudes and postures. in addition, it requires combativeness, introspection, positive self image, as well as a critical stance towards social relations while putting forward proposals for their transformation. the study points out that in search of construing their presence in society, these women struggle to overcome the invisibility imposed on the descendants of africans. the women also struggle to have the needs of this group met by social policies that would address the problems that afflict it and would eliminate the oppressions that are inflicted upon it, fighting in this manner, for justice for all those who are marginalized by society. the article concludes with the assertion that the most genuine sources of knowledge concerning the black women are themselves, indicating the need for studies that address this theme, to have at center, the former's points of view as women and blacks.

Abstract: coffee is widely consumed and appreciated all over the world, both for their stimulating effect and organoleptic characteristics. due to its complex chemical composition and the factors involving brews preparation, the consumer is exposed to a wide range of chemical compounds. several investigations aimed to clarify and understand coffee health effects. there is no evidence that moderate consumption could be harmful. on the contrary, some benefits and possible protective effects against several pathologies have been suggested. this review compiles the main conclusions related with the "coffee and health" topic, reporting, when possible, the chemicals involved.

Abstract: research in people management has predominantly adopted strategic and behavioral frameworks and, more recently, the resource based view (rbv) and systemic approaches, while only a few works have been developed under different theoretical perspectives. in this research, managerial policies and practices are studied in an organizational network in order to investigate the influence of institutional factors such as legislation, shareholders, the organization's historic heritage and market conditions over the design and implementation of people management practices. the results show that, besides organizational strategy, institutional aspects may determine people management policies and practices, providing evidences of advantages derived from incorporating institutional approaches in the studies of this fi eld.
