Web Usability: cornice e contesto
Isabella Baroni
m@gm@ , 2003,

Abstract:
The mechanism of phase transitions enlightened by an elementary Z_2-symmetric classical spin model
Fabrizio Baroni
Physics , 2011,
Abstract: In this paper we present the most elementary model that we know with a first order $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetry breaking phase transition. It is a classical spin model with potential energy assuming only two values, which despite its dramatic simplicity reproduces all the characteristic features of a first order symmetry breaking phase transition. Its aim is not to reproduce anyway some physical systems, but to enlighten the mechanics at the deep origin of a phase transition of any system. We consider the model as elementary in this sense. Indeed, it reveals in the most evident way how the Boltzmann factor competes with the entropic factor in order to generate the phase transition by varying the temperature. The paper ends revisiting the solutions of the Ising model and the spherical model (Berlin-Kac) in the mean-field version which show the same picture of the model introduced in this paper, but extended to continuous phase transitions. A limit of this analysis is that all the three models here considered satisfies the strong constraint of having the potential expressible as a function of the magnetization, thus they belong to the class of infinite-range systems. Anyway, we hope that this study may be helpful in finding out the general sufficiency conditions under which a potential can entail a phase transition in a general physical system also in the finite-range case.
A simple topological model with continuous phase transition
Fabrizio Baroni
Physics , 2011, DOI: 10.1088/1742-5468/2011/08/P08010
Abstract: In the area of topological and geometric treatment of phase transitions and symmetry breaking in Hamiltonian systems, in a recent paper some general sufficient conditions for these phenomena in $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric systems (i.e. invariant under reflection of coordinates) have been found out. In this paper we present a simple topological model satisfying the above conditions hoping to enlighten the mechanism which causes this phenomenon in more general physical models. The symmetry breaking is testified by a continuous magnetization with a nonanalytic point in correspondence of a critical temperature which divides the broken symmetry phase from the unbroken one. A particularity with respect to the common pictures of a phase transition is that the nonanalyticity of the magnetization is not accompanied by a nonanalytic behavior of the free energy.
Lorentz estimates for obstacle parabolic problems

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We prove that the spatial gradient of (variational) solutions to parabolic obstacle problems of p-Laplacian type enjoys the same regularity of the data and of the derivatives of the obstacle in the scale of Lorentz spaces.
Arte circense: a magia e o encantamento dentro e fora das lonas Circus arts: magic and charm inside and outside the tents Arte circense: la magia y el encantamiento dentro y fuera de las lonas

Pensar a Prática , 2006, DOI: 19806183/rpp.v9i1.126
PALAVRAS-CHAVE: arte circense – corpo – prática pedagógica – ludicidade This text is part of a master’s dissertation which investigates circus knowledge incorporated and shared by the Circo Girassol circus in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. Considering the body from cultural and historical references, one can observe movement in the circus arts to be resignified at each moment. From the body practices of the saltimbancs, triggering laughter and freedom, to the art of the contemporary circus adapted to the artistic performance market of this time, the body becomes one of the main products of the Culture Industry. This article also presents an educational proposal to enable the practice of body movement culture to be developed in cooperation, solidarity, and interdisciplinarity, turning the “let’s play circus” act into a playful pedagogical act focused at the “production” of pleasure.
Rapha?l Baroni
Image and Narrative : Online Magazine of the Visual Narrative , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to explore how fixed image succeed in representing temporal flux, which is one of the definitional features of narrativity. To deal with this question, we’ll have to take into account the participation of an interpreter building a reading course inside, between of beyond fixed images. The question will also to define which kind of temporality will be produced by iconic narratives. Indeed, narrative is not only the sequential representation of sequential events, but also events transformed by their emplotement. Here again, plot can be understood in two different ways: it can be a puzzling representation whose aim is to orient the attention of the interpreter toward an anticipated but uncertain resolution, or it can be viewed as a configuration conferring meaning and unity to the narrated events. Examples gathered in the graphic novel Watchmen will be used to illustrate these different modalities of iconic narrativity that often work jointly.
The Cameroon and Nigeria Negotiation Process over the Contested Oil rich Bakassi Peninsula
Nicholas Tarlebbea,Sam Baroni
Journal of Alternative Perspectives in the Social Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: This paper is aimed at exploring the negotiation process between Cameroon and Nigeria over the resourcerich Bakassi Peninsula located along the gulf of Guinea. Although relations between neighboring Cameroon and Nigeria have been strained over issues relating to their1.600-kilometer land boundary, extending from the Lake Chad Basin to the Bakassi peninsula and going as far as the maritime boundary in the Gulf of Guinea, Negotiation has helped create a workable solution for both countries. Among the issues involved are rights over the oil-rich land and sea reserves as well as the fate of the local populace of the region.
