Barata,José Maria Soares;
Revista de Saúde Pública , 1981, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89101981000500006
Abstract: morphological studies of exochorial patterns of rhodnius (hemiptera-reduviidae) genus were made. ten species were studied by scanning and common microscopy, and data were described mainly for systematic purposes. the species included are rhodnius domesticus neiva & pinto, 1923; r. ecuadoriensis lent & leon, 1958; r. nasutus stal, 1959; r. neglectus lent, 1954; r. neivai lent, 1953; r. pallescens barber, 1932; r. paraensis sherlock, guitton & miles, 1977; r. pictipes stal, 1872; r. prolixus stal, 1859; and r. robustus larrousse, 1927. general aspects of eggs and shells such as shape, color patterns, and size measurements are also presented. data about changes of coloration occurred during egg maturation were recorded and related to the embryonic development. the characteristics described were utilized to work out identification keys for these triatominae eggs, both by optical and scanning electron microscopy.

Nota sobre a diferencia??o de ovos de Rhodnius neglectus e R. prolixus
Forattini,Oswaldo Paulo; Barata,José Maria Soares;
Revista de Saúde Pública , 1974, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89101974000400011
Abstract: an evident structural process allowing the distinction between the rhodnius neglectus and r. prolixus eggs is described. the former presents a complete collar occupying the preopercular region whilst in the latter species this formation is lacking.

Cardoso, Jader da Cruz;Corseuil, Elio;Barata, José Maria Soares;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262005000200013
Abstract: this work lists the species of culicinae recorded in the state of rio grande do sul, brazil. the present data is based on adult collections carried out in 11 physiographic zones from september/2001 to august/ 2002, published literature and entomological collection records. fifty-seven species are listed, including 22 new occurrences to rio grande do sul. the present study increased the geographic distribution range of aedeomyia squamipennis, culex chidesteri, culex quinquefasciatus, haemagogus leucocelaenus, mansonia titillans, ochlerotatus albifasciatus, ochlerotatus crinifer, ochlerotatus fluviatilis, ochlerotatus scapularis, ochlerotatus serratus, psorophora confinnis, psorophora ferox, sabethes aurescens, trichoprosopon pallidiventer and uranotaenia lowii.
Resistência a inseticidas organofosforados e carbamatos em popula??o de Culex quinquefasciatus
Bracco,José Eduardo; Dalbon,Moacyr; Marinotti,Osvaldo; Barata,José Maria Soares;
Revista de Saúde Pública , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89101997000200013
Abstract: the population of culex quinquefasciatus breeding in the pinheiros river (s. paulo, brazil) has been controlled with organophosphates since 1980. however, the biting has constituted a continual nuisance to the human population who live in the vicinity of the river. the occurrence of insecticide resistance to at least two organophosphates and one carbamate (malathion, fenitrothion and propoxur, respectively) to this insect population is reported. the results show the need to develop an insecticide management program. the suscetibility to permethrin (pyretroid) suggests the possibility of using this class of insecticide shoul the need for replacement of the insecticide in use arise.

Morphological study of the thorax of the five nymphal instars of Triatoma arthurneivai Lent & Martins (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae)
Rosa, Jo?o Aristeu da;Medeiros, Marcello Pereira;Cilense, Mario;Barata, José Maria Soares;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262005000300001
Abstract: scanning electron microscope (sem) was done in order to study dorsal, ventral and lateral sides of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th nymphal instars of triatoma arthurneivai. the five nymphal instar can be recognized based on different pronotum, mesonotum and metanotum shapes and characteristics. in the 1st instar collar, hairless areas and tubercles are absent. the 2 nd instar presents collar, hairless areas and tubercles. in the 3rd instar occurs the development of wing pads. in the 4 th instar the four wing pads are expanded, but do not reach the abdomen and in the 5th instar the anterior wing pads almost overlap the posterior ones. at the ventral side, two metasternal glands openings (1+1) were found in all five nymphal instars. brindley's gland evaporation areas (1+1) are located at the mesopleuron, as well as an evaporation area is located at the propleuron in all nymphal instars (1+1).
Nota sobre novo caso autóctone de tripanossomíase americana no litoral Sul do Estado de S?o Paulo, Brasil

Revista de Saúde Pública , 1981, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89101981000300010
Abstract: a new indigenous case of american trypanosomiasis in the southern coastal region of the state of s. paulo, brazil is reported. similary with the first one, reported elsewhere, no triatomianae bugs were be involved and so contamination through handling of wild mammals carcasses seems to be a suitable transmission mechanism. this finding sustain the existence of a regional endemic pattern.
