STUDIES OF ANTI INFLAMMATORY, ANTIPYRETIC AND ANALGESIC EFFECTS OF AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF TRADITIONAL HERBAL DRUG ON RODENTS

Abstract: Aqueous extract of combination of stems of Tinospora cordifolia, fruits of Emblica officinalis and rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus has been used as traditional herbal drug in Indian medicine system for treatment of fever, body ache, joint pain and inflammation. The collected botanicals were subject to physiochemical, pharmacognostical & phytochemical screening before animal experiments. After acute toxicity studies, anti-inflammatory effect was assessed using carrageen induced paw oedema test and antipyretic effect using yeast induced pyrexia method. Tail immersion, hot plate and writhings test were used for determining the analgesic properties. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of polyphenolic flavonoids, tannin and saponins. Significant anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties were noticed in dose dependant manner after aqueous extract administration especially at 600 mg/kg dose. These test drug activities were sustained and comparable to the standard drugs while exhibiting no acute toxicity. Aqueous extract of test drug possesses significantly high anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties without any acute toxicity possibly due to presence of flavonoids.
Minimum Distance Estimation of Milky Way Model Parameters and Related Inference

Abstract: We propose a method to estimate the location of the Sun in the disk of the Milky Way using a method based on the Hellinger distance and construct confidence sets on our estimate of the unknown location using a bootstrap based method. Assuming the Galactic disk to be two-dimensional, the sought solar location then reduces to the radial distance separating the Sun from the Galactic center and the angular separation of the Galactic center to Sun line, from a pre-fixed line on the disk. On astronomical scales, the unknown solar location is equivalent to the location of us earthlings who observe the velocities of a sample of stars in the neighborhood of the Sun. This unknown location is estimated by undertaking pairwise comparisons of the estimated density of the observed set of velocities of the sampled stars, with densities estimated using synthetic stellar velocity data sets generated at chosen locations in the Milky Way disk according to four base astrophysical models. The "match" between the pair of estimated densities is parameterized by the affinity measure based on the familiar Hellinger distance. We perform a novel cross-validation procedure to establish a desirable "consistency" property of the proposed method.

Abstract:

A new series of quinoxaline 1,4-di-N-oxides were synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. The best result was demonstrated by 3-amino-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-quinoxalinecarboxamide 1,4-di-N-oxide 4e, MIC (0.24 μg/ml) against Aspergillus fumigatus, and (0.12 μg/ml) against Streptococcus pneumonia.

Abstract:

In this paper, we focus on a type of inverse problem in which the data are expressed as an unknown function of the sought and unknown model function (or its discretised representation as a model parameter vector). In particular, we deal with situations in which training data are not available. Then we cannot model the unknown functional relationship between data and the unknown model function (or parameter vector) with a Gaussian Process of appropriate dimensionality. A Bayesian method based on state space modelling is advanced instead. Within this framework, the likelihood is expressed in terms of the probability density function (pdf) of the state space variable and the sought model parameter vector is embedded within the domain of this pdf. As the measurable vector lives only inside an identified sub-volume of the system state space, the pdf of the state space variable is projected onto the space of the measurables, and it is in terms of the projected state space density that the likelihood is written; the final form of the likelihood is achieved after convolution with the distribution of measurement errors. Application motivated vague priors are invoked and the posterior probability density of the model parameter vectors, given the data are computed. Inference is performed by taking posterior samples with adaptive MCMC. The method is illustrated on synthetic as well as real galactic data.

Abstract: Graft polymerization has been considered as a general method for the modification of the physical and chemical properties of polymeric materials and of particular interest for synthesis of the hydrophilic membrane. In this study, hydrophilic carboxylic acid groups were introduced by radiation-induced grafting of acrylic acid (AAc) onto non-woven polypropylene fabric (NWPP). Different irradiation doses and (AAc) monomer concentrations were used to optimize grafting yield. Characterization and properties of the prepared graft copolymer were studied by employing X-ray Dif-fraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM ), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The prepared grafted materials were used for removing some heavy metals ions. The results showed that the non-woven PP grafted with (AAc) has good affinity toward Cu, Ni and Co.

Abstract: The role of magnesium (Mg) in improving the high temperature mechanical properties of the superalloys, like creep, fatigue, tensile ductility, impact toughness etc. have been vividly studied by several authors. On the other hand, very few authors have contradicted the view of any beneficial effect of Mg on the mechanical properties. This review presents a summary of the open literature related to the effect of Mg on the microstructure and mechanical properties of superalloys and from which further metallurgical research on the unexamined topics are proposed.

Abstract: We have studied the formation of Hall-qubit in lowest Landau level of (LLL) Quantum Hall effect due to the Aharonov-Bhom oscillation of quasiparticles.The spin echo method plays the key role in the topological entanglement of qubits. The proper ratio of fluxes for maximally entangling qubits has also been pointed out. The generation of higher Quantum Hall state may be possible with the help of quantum teleportation.
Modeling Stress Intensity Factor of Rail Steel under Situation of Growing Fatigue Crack—A Novel Technique  [PDF]

Abstract: Simulation of stress intensity factor as function of rolling contact fatigue cracks of railway tracks and the vehicle load is made with the help of COMSOL Multiphysics software. It is found that the critical stress intensity factor i.e. 41.6 MPa. m1/2 is reached at a stress level of 32 MPa and at the crack size 11.5 × 10-2 m.Noting the power law variation of acoustic emission count with increase in crack size (analogous to Paris Law), the simulation was further carried out to model the dependence of measured AE count with the stress intensity factor ahead of a growing RCF crack tip. It is demonstrated that AE measurement can be effective to trigger a control loop for avoidance of fatigue failure of railway track. In view of potential difference in the intensity of back scattered light from surface irregularities, a model is developed to find out the threshold intensity of scattered light that insures safety in the railway system against fatigue failure.

Abstract:

In this paper, I examine the effects of gender and race/ethnicity on American workers’ workplace identities. Literature on gender, work, and occupation suggests that gender and race are significant predictors of workers’ workplace identities. Literature also posits that self-perceived competency and reflected appraisals from others in workplaces also contribute considerably to workers’ workplace identities. However, there exists hardly any empirical study that explores the impacts of gender, race, workers’ self-perceived competency, and their reflected appraisals altogether on their workplace identities. That is what I accomplished in this study. Deriving the data from the National Study of Changing Workforce (NSCW: 2008) I ask: 1) Do women and men workers in America differ in their perceptions of workplace identities; 2) Do non-white and white workers in America differ in their perceptions of workplace identities; and 3) Do gender and race of the workers impact their workplace identities when self-perceived competency and reflected appraisals enter the equation? Analyses are based on quantitative methods. Results show that workers’ self-perceived competency and their reflected appraisals are more significant predictors of their workplace identities than gender or race.

Abstract: Das wichtigste Ziel des vorliegenden Artikels ist eine Bedeutung der Mystik für die Autoren des Dialogs zwischen der Literatur(wissenschaft) und Theologie zu zeigen. Dabei wird die Tradition der frühchristlichen Kirche aktualisiert. Die christliche Tradition der Mystik kommt schon in der Bibel zum Vorschein, so z. B. in der Paulusrede auf dem Areopag, die mit der Literaturtheologie in Beziehung gesetzt wird. Als Untersuchungsgegenstand dienen theoretische Studien und einige Arbeiten der Literaturkritik. Die Erfahrung erscheint als ein wesentliches Problem im Bereich der Literatur und Theologie.Kuschel, als Verbindungskette zweier bedeutungsvoller Forschungsetappen des Dialogs zwischen Literatur und Theologie in Deutschland, formuliert einen sich dynamisch ver ndernden Netz der strukturellen Analogien, der Theopoetik und anderer Begriffe. Als eine der wichtigsten S ulen dient in seinen Arbeiten die Steiners Konzeption der Kunstmetaphysik, die auch für andere nach einem interdisziplin ren Dialog suchenden Autoren aktuell ist. Braungart betont die sthetische Richtung der Theologie, die Literaturwissenschaft wird laut Braungart in Zusammenhang mit sthetisch und exegetisch-hermeneutisch orientierter Theologie gesetzt. Das sthetische Kriterium für die Bewertung der Literatur wird in Arbeiten von S lle durch ein starkes theologisches Interesse erg nzt. Diese Autorin sucht nach Unterstützung des dialogischen Denkens und bedient sich der figurischen Methode in Auffassung von Auerbach. Im Rahmen dieser Problematik wird kontraverse Betrachtung des Begriffs der Literaturtheologie deutlich, zum Verst ndnis dessen Mieths Ansicht von gro er Bedeutung ist. Seiner Meinung nach sei die Literaturtheologie ohne Autonomie der Poesie nicht zu gerechtfertigen, Theologie sei genausoviel ideologisch gef hrlich wie gef hrlich eine für die Literaturwissenschaft typische leere Ideologie sei.Die Mystik der Kircheenv ter und des Mittelaters weist Gemeinsamkeiten im Bereich der Weltauffassung und des Stils auf und kann mit der Kunst- und Poesieauffassung moderner Autoren verglichen werden. Das Verst ndnis der Mysterie der poetischen Versuchung“ und des mystischen Wissens in Arbeiten von Clemens von Alexandria erscheint erneut in der Kunstmetaphysik von Steiner und Kuschel, in der Reflexion der Beziehung zwischen der Literatur und Theologie.
