B. Akbari,R. Bagheri
Journal of Nanomaterials , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/810623
Abstract: Polypropylene/montmorillonite nanocomposite was prepared by melt intercalation method using a twin-screw extruder with starve feeding system in this paper. The effects of compatibilizer, extruder rotor speed and feeding rate on properties of nanocomposite were investigated. Structure, tensile, and impact properties and deformation mechanism of the compounds were studied. For investigation of structure and deformation mechanisms, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission optical microscopy (TOM) techniques were utilized, respectively. The results illustrate that introduction of the compatibilizer and also variation of the processing conditions affect structure and mechanical properties of nanocomposite.

Tehran University Medical Journal , 2011,
Abstract: "nBackground: Gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors are classified as tumors that originate from smooth muscles. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common types of the proposed tumors and can be seen in the GI tract from the esophagus to the anus, but they are mostly seen in the stomach. Mostly from the stomach and asymptomatic, the majority of patients would benefit from surgery as the best method of treatment."n "nMethods: In this retrospective study we evaluated the data of patients with the diagnosis of esophageal or gastric mesenchymal tumors admitted in Ghaem and Omid Hospitals affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran, from 1992 to 2010. We analyzed factors such as age, sex, presenting symptoms and signs, diagnostic methods, types of pathology, types of treatment, morbidity, mortality and 3-year survival rates."n "nResults: Twenty four patients (16 male, 8 female) with a mean age of 50 were included in the study. The common site of tumor was gastric fundus. The most common symptom at the time of diagnosis was epigastric fullness which was observed in almost 50% of the patients. The most common type of surgery in the patients was subtotal gastrectomy and no hospital mortality was recorded. Paralytic ileus was the commonest complication seen in five patients (20.5%). Adjuvant therapy had been performed in eight patients (33.1%). Following the patients three years postoperatively, there were only three deaths (12.45%)."n "nConclusion: Regarding to the low mortality and morbidity of the surgeries, surgical treatment, if tolerated, is recommended for all Esophagogastric mesenchymal tumors patients.

The aim of this study was to review the results of surgical treatment of long segment post intubation tracheal stenosis and the role of bilateral hyoid bone cutting in supra- hyoid release technique."n"nMethods: Between 2004 to 2008, 14 patients with proximal long segment tracheal stenosis with resection of more than 40% of trachea length were evaluated regarding surgical technique and post-operative results."n"nResults: The mean age of patients was 22.2±0.4 years. Etiology in all patients were head trauma and prolonged intubation and all patients had tracheostomy at the time of trearment. Average time between surgery and first admission was 4.5±0.5 months. Average length of stenosis and resected segment were 3.6±0.5 and 4.3±0.5cm respectively. Average increased length of trachea after bilateral hyoid bone cutting was 1.1±0.3cm. Postoperative complications occurred in one patient with wound infection, and 4 patients had stenosis recurrence which was treated in 3 patients using multiple dilation. Quality of life 2 years after surgery in 71% of patients were classified in good and excellent group. We didn't have any mortality."n"nConclusion: Based on the fact that surgery is the best method of treatment in long and multi segment tracheal stenosis and tension in suture line is a serious problem, we recommend extended releasing technique including bilateral hyoid cutting in surgical treatment of these patients.
Massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to esophago- thyroidal artery fistula following foreign body aspiration: a case report
Bagheri R.,Maddah Gh.,Abdollahi A.
Tehran University Medical Journal , 2007,
Abstract: Background: Immediate treatment when an esophageal foreign body is suspected is critical because of the possibility of serious complications. The presence of foreign bodies in the esophagus usually occurs accidentally in children and mentally retarded adults. A greater risk of perforation of the esophagus, development of a mediastinal, as well as airway compromise is present when a foreign body is lodged longer than 24 hours. Furthermore, this condition results in complications, such as hemorrhage or esophageal fistula, when treatment is delayed. We herein report a case of esophageo-thyroidal artery fistula, a rare complication resulting from the delayed removal of an esophageal foreign body. Patient presentation: A 34 year-old female who had swallowed her dental prosthesis one week previously was referred for severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Surgery to remove the foreign body was performed. To determine the cause of continued bleeding after the endoscopy and angiography, we performed a neck exploration, which revealed hemorrhage from a fistula between thyroid vessels and the esophagus. After surgical resection of the fistula, the patient was discharged from the hospital in good condition and has had no related problems for six months. Conclusions: Considering the complications resulting from the delay of the removal of foreign bodies from the esophagus, these objects should be removed as soon as possible.

Tehran University Medical Journal , 2002,
Abstract: Background: Auditory brainstem response (A.B.R) is one of the most important electrophysiological tests in evaluating of auditory system, especially for diagnosing of auditory nerve and brainstem disorders. It is a non-invasive test and has reliability and validity characteristic. There is no contra-indication for this test. One of the most important of stimulation parameters of A.B.R is click polarity (rarefaction, condensation and alternative). Some of the investigators believed that different polarities have no effects on A.B.R are affected by different polarities. Materials and Methods: In this study, the results of ABR of 148 patients (296 ears) were compared with three different polarities of rarefaction, condensation and alternative half click stimuli. The cases were categorized in three groups of normal (60 cases), cochlear (62 cases) and retro-cochlear (17 cases). This classification were done according to the hearing level in pure tone audiometry results in three frequencies of 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz and to the site of the their disorders. The mean absolute latencies of waves I, III and V were obtained for each polarity. Inter-peak latency (I.P.L) of wave also measured in three groups (normal, cochlear and retro-cochlear). Results: The results were showed a significant difference between absolute latency of wave I among different polarities on three above mentioned groups (P0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that rarefaction polarity has better and more stable results of ABR tests.
