Photographic representation and Indian people Representa o fotográfica e povos indígenas
Paulo Humberto Borges
Discursos Fotográficos , 2010,
Abstract: This article aims to discuss the aspects of photography as a document and representation of Indian people, specially the Guaranis. In this sense, it presents the results of a photographic workshop with the Indian community of Guarani from Brakuí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, during an Indian professor course related to history learning. Considering the images done by and about the Indians, the text discuss how this group construct and produces internal and external representations in different situations of a non- Indian world, in an interesting mirror games.

Abstract: objective: the iowa gambling task is a neuropsychological task developed in english, most widely used to assess decision-making. the aim of this work was to adapt the iowa gambling task to brazilian portuguese, compare it with the original version and assess its validity. method: we assessed 75 brazilian adults divided into three groups: 1) 25 healthy volunteers holding the proficiency certificate in english tested using the english version of the iowa gambling task; 2) 25 healthy volunteers who did not speak or read english tested using the iowa gambling task-portuguese; 3) 25 attention deficit hyperactivity disorder subjects tested with the iowa gambling task-portuguese. results: no difference between groups 1 and 2 was observed. nonetheless, we found significant differences between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder subjects and the other 2 groups on blocks 3, 4, 5, and on net score. conclusion: our results are similar to those previously described in the literature concerning adults without neuropsychiatric diseases. since those two versions were equivalent and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder subjects performed significantly worse than healthy volunteers we can conclude that the adaptation of the iowa gambling task to brazilian portuguese is valid and can be used for research purposes in the brazilian context.
Contagem de células somáticas e produ??o de leite em vacas holandesas de alta produ??o
Coldebella, Arlei;Machado, Paulo Fernando;Demétrio, Clarice Garcia Borges;Ribeiro Júnior, Paulo Justiniano;Corassin, Carlos Humberto;Meyer, Paula Marques;Cassoli, Laerte Dagher;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2003001200012
Abstract: the goal of this paper was to evaluate if losses in milk yield due to increase in somatic cells count are proportional or independent of the level of production. a total of 7,756 observations, monthly collected from a single herd from september/2000 up to june/2002, were used. the lactation curve was modeled by the incomplete gamma function, considering the effects of lactation order, calving season, peripartum disorder incidence and body condition score at calving. somatic cells count was added to the model as a multiplicative factor, representing relative losses, and as an additive factor, representing absolute losses. the best model was chosen based on the information criteria of schwarz (bic). the losses are absolute, becoming evident from 14,270 cells/ml, and they are 184 and 869 g/day for each increase of one unit in the natural logarithm scale, starting from that somatic cells count, for primiparous and multiparous cows, respectively.

Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982004000300011
Abstract: the relationship between milk somatic cells count (scc) and milk yield has been the aim of countless researches in several countries; however, in brazil, the literature related to this subject is scarce. therefore, the objective of this study is to verify if the losses in milk yield due to scc increase are proportional to the yield, or absolute (independent of it) and starting from which scc, the losses become evident. for this study, 13.725 observations were used, collected monthly from 6 different herds, from january/2001 up to june/2002. the analysis model, for lactation curve, was based upon the incomplete gama function, considering the effects of lactation order, herd and calving season. the scc entered in that model in two ways: as multiplicative factor (representing relative losses) and as addictive factor (representing absolute losses). the best model was chosen based on the information criteria of schwarz (bic). it is concluded that the losses are absolute, becoming evident from 17.000 cells/ml, and they are 238 and 868 ml/day for each increase of one unit in the natural logarithm scale, starting from that scc, respectively, for primiparous and multiparous.

Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992004000400018
Abstract: we describe a case report of a middle ear adenoma in man with progressive conductive hearing loss, hyperemic retrotympanic mass with slow growing and undergone a radical mastoidectomy. this is a rare tumor composed of adenomatous and neuroendocrine cells. it has a large number of differential diagnoses and it is done by microscopy and immunohistochemistry. the treatment is surgical in all cases with no additional therapy only clinical follow-up, once its prognostic is favorable
Carcass characteristics of broilers at 42 days receiving diets with phytase in different energy and crude protein levels
Nagata, Adriano Kaneo;Rodrigues, Paulo Borges;Alvarenga, Renata Ribeiro;Zangeronimo, Márcio Gilberto;Donato, Daniella Carolina Zanardo;Silva, José Humberto Vilar da;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542011000300020
Abstract: the aim of this study was to evaluate carcass characteristics and quality of breast meat after the inclusion of phytase in broiler diets with different levels of apparent metabolizable energy (amen) corrected for nitrogen and reduced crude protein (cp) supplemented with essential amino acids following the concept of ideal protein. a total of 1,500 cobb broilers from 22 to 42 days (initial weight of 833 ± 7 g and final weight of 2741 ± 48 g) were distributed in completely randomized design in a factorial 3x3+1 experiment (three levels of amen - 2,950; 3,100 and 3,250 kcal/kg - and three levels of cp - 14, 16 and 18% - and an additional treatment - control without phytase, with 3,100 kcal/kg eman, 19.2% pb and 0.4% available phosphorus), in six replications of 25 birds each. at the end of the trial, two birds of each experimental unit were slaughtered in order to measure carcass yield and yields of parts and to determine the chemical composition of the breast meat. the levels of amen and cp of diets with phytase influenced (p<0.05) the carcass, breast and abdominal fat yield and humidity, protein and fat percentage in the pectoralis major muscle of the birds. the levels of 3,100 kcal amen/kg and 18% cp showed higher carcass and breast yield and lower abdominal fat deposition, although with higher fat percentage in the breast meat. it was concluded that the manipulation of the energy levels of diets with reduced crude protein supplemented with amino acids and phytase influenced the yields of parts of carcass and the breast meat quality of the broilers at 42 days.
