Isolation of Infectious Bronchitis Virus from an Outbreak in Parent Layer Stock
B.M. Chandra Naik,S.R. Santhosh,B.Y. Sridhar,Asha Mayanna
International Journal of Poultry Science , 2005,
Abstract: Trachea and lung tissue samples collected from a disease outbreak at Regional Poultry Farm, Kerala, India were submitted for virological investigation at Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAH & VB), Bangalore. The outbreak had taken a toll of 385 layer parent stock birds. The main symptoms and lesions were air saculitis, tracheal rales, oopheritis and salphingitis. The samples were processed and inoculated to 10th day old chicken embryos. Lesions of dwarfing and curling characteristic of Infectious bronchitis were noticed in inoculated embryos. The virus was confirmed by a modified Haemagglutination (HA) test, wherein the allontoic fluid was pretreated with crude filtrate of Clostridium perfringens before carrying out HA.
The Immunomodulatory Role of Calf Thymus Extract on Humoral and Cell Mediated Immune Response in Chicken Vaccinated Against New Castle Disease Virus
B.M. Chandra Naik,Y. Hari Babu,G.S. Mamatha
International Journal of Poultry Science , 2005,
Abstract: The effect of administration of calf thymus extract (CTE) with protein concentration of 1.8mg/ml was studied using two groups of day old layer chicks. Both the groups were vaccinated with ‘F’ and ‘R2B’ strains of New Castle Disease Virus (NDV) vaccines on 7th day and 8th week respectively. One group was administered with 1.8mg of thymic proteins intraperitoneally, one week prior and one week after each vaccination. The other group remained as vaccinated control group. Humoral and cell mediated responses were evaluated 15 days after each vaccination. Intraperitoneal administration of calf thymus extract markedly and significantly increased the antibody titres against NDV, serum globulin level, and percentage of lymphocytes in the blood. In addition thymus extract resulted in definite and significant cellular immunopotentiation.

Influence of Discontinuity Length and Density on Permeability of Nigerian Coals
B.M. Olaleye
Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: Laboratory investigation was conducted to determine the influence of discontinuity length and density on permeability of Nigeria coal seams to serve the advantage of water infusion in coal seam mining. This study presents the measured equivalent permeability results and its relevance to water infusion in coal seams. The laboratory results indicated that the coals have equivalent permeabilities of 10 4 to 10 3 m s 1 and the permeability coefficient is mainly dominated by the percentage of porosity and the crack number. The laboratory data provide a base for assessment and prediction of water inflow into the seams during coal seams mining.
Some Factors Affecting Fertility and Hatchability in the Farmed Ostrich: A Review
B.M. Dzoma
Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/javaa.2010.229.239
Abstract: This review highlights some of the factors that affect fertility and hatchability in the farmed ostrich, considering the enormous impediments that these two parameters present on ostrich productivity and enterprise viability. Fertility may be influenced by cock and/or hen factors. Cock fertility is influenced by age, stage of the breeding season, frequency of ejaculation, sperm supply, disease and nutrition. Hen fertility is influenced by reproductive age, feed energy levels, disease and efficiency in sperm storage. Pre-season breeding soundness examination and artificial insemination are animal production technologies that should be implored further, while the effective grouping of breeders based on compatibility should be emphasized in order to optimize reproductive efficiency. Hatchability can be improved through, the use of contamination free eggs, appropriate incubation temperature and humidity and the attainment of the recommended 15% moisture loss during incubation among others.
Teks – konteks: ’n ideologiese magspel of ’n dialektiese dissonansie?

Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 2002, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v67i2.369
Abstract: Text – context: An ideological power game or a dialectical dissonance? The reversal of the conventional relationship between musical foreground and political background and the concomitant formation of a new relationship, that is political foreground – musical background, was the result of the (mainly legitimate) claims of new musicology. The concept of context may be accessed from a variety of theoretical positions, but this article focuses on the role of ideology within a contextual approach. It takes literary theory and current ideological claims as starting-point to view the strained relationship between text and context in a historical perspective. An ideological approach foregrounds the function of the text, rather than its interpretability. More specifically this article is an investigation into the possibilities, boundaries and limitations of interpretation. As opposed to either an approach in which the work of art is regarded as an autonomous aesthetic object, or a contextual approach in which matters outside the text constitute the primary concern, I argue for a more nuanced view in which text and context function as equal partners in a kind of dialogue. Finally I adopt the relationship between consonance and dissonance as metaphor to represent the problematic relationship between text and context.

Abstract: An unusual growth is developed with some trees. A bunch of some of their twigs is bending in the downward direction and twigs are stretched downward. Bending of twigs is due to additional gravitational force acting on these twigs. This additional gravitational force is because of presence of underground water stream. The direction of plane in which the twigs are bending indicates the ground surface line where underground water stream is present.
