Abstract: In the context of a study on medical assistance and sanitary politics in Peru from XVIth to XlXth centuries, the author made a documentary research about the changes occurred on the Hospital of the Sacred Spirit, especially that concerning to their transfer, in 1750, from Lima to Bellavista. En el contexto de un estudio sobre política asistencial y sanitaria en el Perú, durante los siglos XVI a XIX, el autor ha investigado documentalmente los avatares del Hospital del Espíritu Santo, especialmente los concernientes a su proyectado traslado, en 1750, desde Lima a Bellavista.
Pitting Corrosion and Passivation of Zr/HCl 1.0 M Electrodes: The Effect of the Pre-Immersion in Molibdate Solutions

Abstract: the aim of this paper is to evaluate the use of molibdate solutions for pre-treatments of zirconiun surfaces. zirconium electrodes were held immersed in molibdate solutions for predetermined time intervals. with the subsequent determination of the pitting nucleation potential and the analysis of the surface morphology, it was possible to evaluate the effect of the molibdate concentration and of the solution ph on the pitting corrosion processes. among the most important results, two are worthy of attention: (i) for all ph values, the immersion of zirconium electrodes in molibdate solutions hinders the pitting corrosion process of the metal, shifting the pitting nucleation potential to more positive values, (ii) the more pronounced shifts of the pitting nucleation potential were observed in alkaline solutions with high molibdate concentration and in acid solutions with low molibdate concentration; this effect was attributed to the adsorption of different species formed at different ph values.
Chronoamperometric Characterization of the Reduction of the Tin Film Electrogenerated in Sodium Hydrogenocarbonate

Abstract: the observation of current hysteresis in the cathodic voltammetric profiles of the sn/bicarbonate electrochemical system motivated chronoamperometric studies, since it is mentioned in literature the correlation between nucleation processes occurrence and current hysteresis presence. the nucleation occurrence was verified by chronoamperometric techniques when films electrogenerated within the passivation region are reduced. mathematical adjustment between experimental data and calculated according theoretical modelling, was done by employing non-linear least squares fitting routines. this way, the electroreduction of the film formed at lower potentials can be explained in terms of diffusion and progressive nucleation and 3-d growth controlled by charge transfer. on the other hand, the reduction of the film formed at higher potentials follows the model of progressive nucleation and 3-d growth but with the inclusion of induction time. the analysis of the parametric dependence on potential step, enabled to evaluate the role of parallel and normal rate constants for each experimental case.

Abstract: Os estudos cronoamperométricos foram motivados pela observa o de histerese de corrente nos perfis de redu o dos voltamogramas realizados no sistema Sn/bicarnonato, já que é sabido na literatura que a presen a de histerese é considerada indicativo de ocorrência de processos de nuclea o. A ocorrência de nuclea o foi verificada mediante técnica cronoamperométrica quando filmes eletrogerados na regi o de passiva o s o reduzidos. Empregando rotinas de análise de mínimos quadrados n o lineares, foi obtido o ajuste entre os resultados experimentais e os calculados usando modelos teóricos que descrevem a nuclea o eletroquímica. Assim, a eletrorredu o do filme formado no extremo inferior da regi o estudada, pode ser explicada em termos de difus o e nuclea o progressiva e crescimento 3-D controlado por transferência de carga. Por outro lado, a redu o do filme electrogerado no extremo superior segue o modelo de nuclea o progressiva e crescimento 3-D controlado por transferência de carga, com a presen a de tempo de indu o. A análise da varia o dos parametros modelísticos com o tamanho do degrau de potencial permitiu estabelecer a influência dos valores das constantes de velocidade paralela e perpendicular à superfície para cada caso experimental. Abstract: Introducción: En la actualidad el estrés oxidativo, la neuroinflamación y la activación glial han adquirido relevancia en la fisiopatología del síndrome doloroso regional complejo (SDRC), de ahí que la terapia con agentes antioxidantes e inhibidores de la producción de citocinas proinflamatorias ha comenzado a ensayarse. El Vimang es una marca comercial registrada que cubre varios tipos de formulaciones a partir del extracto de la corteza del árbol de mango con efecto inhibidor de la activación del factor de transcripción nuclear kB (NFkB), promotor de la expresión de mediadores y sistemas enzimáticos involucrados en la inflamación y el dolor, el estrés oxidativo y la plasticidad sináptica. Objetivo: El propósito del presente estudio fue determinar la actividad analgésica de la suplementación con formulaciones Vimang en 15 pacientes con SDRC y la posible mejoría de la capacidad funcional postratamiento. Material y métodos: Los pacientes recibieron Vimang tabletas 1.800 mg/día/8 h, crema 1,2% en el miembro afectado 3 veces/día y un bloqueo simpático semanal durante 4 meses. Se introdujo la fisioterapia al mes. Las variables evaluadas fueron las puntuaciones diarias medias de dolor (PDMD) mediante una escala de Likert, el área e intensidad de la alodinia mecánica dinámica, la alodinia al frío, somática profunda y la frecuencia del dolor paroxístico. Se aplicó la escala de Enneking et al. modificada para evaluar la funcionabilidad articular. Resultados: Las PDMD y el resto de las alteraciones sensoriales se redujeron significativamente desde la semana 2 a 3 de iniciado el tratamiento respecto a los valores iniciales. La funcionabilidad del miembro afectado aumentó de un promedio de 22,7 a 78,7%. Estas formulaciones pudieran introducirse en el tratamiento del SDRC, pero es necesario sistematizar los estudios. Abstract: Introducción: El síndrome doloroso regional complejo tipo 1 (SDRC-I) cursa con una fase aguda de inflamación neurogénica regional, que conduce a una fase crónica de desórdenes neuropáticos. La participación del sistema nervioso simpático en su génesis y mantenimiento es significativa, pero no exclusiva. De ahí la importancia de un tratamiento precoz y multifactorial, dirigido a los mecanismos fisiopatológicos. Objetivos: Estudiar el uso de los bloqueos simpáticos, asociados a otros procederes y fármacos en su tratamiento. Material y métodos: Se estudiaron 68 pacientes portadores de SDRC-I que acudieron a la Clínica del Dolor, a los que se realizó bloqueo de la cadena simpática ganglionar cervical y lumbar según la localización de la entidad. Todos los pacientes asociaron el hidromasaje en el hogar. Se administraron fármacos coadyuvantes para el control del dolor neuropático, paroxístico y persistente quemante. En los casos con trastornos de la consolidación ósea, se aplicó laserterapia local y TENS en los que presentaban mayor limitación funcional; así como técnicas de fisiatría. Se aplicó la escala análoga visual (EAV) para evaluar la intensidad de la analgesia y se realizó examen físico para la valoración de los trastornos autonómicos. La función articular se consideró mediante la escala de Enneking y cols. para pacientes amputados, modificada por nosotros. Resultados: El dolor se controló en 33 pacientes y 28 descendieron su EAV a niveles álgicos tolerables, para un 89,70% de efectividad terapéutica. La función articular se recuperó en 30 pacientes y 20 quedaron con limitación leve, estos dos grupos con mejor respuesta correspondieron al 73,52% del total de los pacientes, 11 quedaron con limitación moderada y sólo 7, el 10,29% de ellos con limitación severa. Los trastornos vasomotores remitieron en la totalidad de los que presentaron respuesta favorable. Conclusiones: La intensidad de la analgesia y el control de la sintomatología autonómica fue satisfactoria en la mayoría de los pacientes. La función articular fue recuperada en los mismos, por lo que mejoró su calidad de vida. El método se comportó como útil en el tratamiento de los pacientes con SDRC-I estudiados, asociado a otras terapias. Abstract: It has been accepted that neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and glial activation are involved in the central sensitization underlying neuropathic pain. Vimang is an aqueous extract of Mangifera indica L. traditionally used in Cuba for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. Several formulations are available, and also for mangiferin, its major component. Preclinical studies demonstrated that these products prevented tumor necrosis factor α -induced IκB degradation and the binding of nuclear factor κB to DNA, which induces the transcription of genes implicated in the expression of some mediators and enzymes involved in inflammation, pain, oxidative stress and synaptic plasticity. In this paper we propose its potential utility in the neuropathic pain treatment. This hypothesis is supported in the cumulus of preclinical and clinical evidence around the extract and mangiferin, its major component, and speculates about the possible mechanism of action according to recent advances in the physiopathology of neuropathic pain.

Abstract: The first hospitals established in south America, specifically in Lima in 1549, are reviewed by the author, hightlighting the first pharmacy arrived in 1551 for those hospitals, including the complete inventary and values of it's contents. In the same way the contract for its management is described and analyzed. El autor hace una rese a detallada sobre los primeros hospitales establecidos en la Ciudad de los Reyes de Lima, a partir de 1549; y en especial un comentario sobre la primera botica recibida en 1551 para dichos hospitales, junto con el contrato de compa ía para su funcionamiento.
Indicators of drought effects in Pinus sylvestris: genetic analyses to corroborate the results of empirical methods

Abstract: Drought periods can be responsible for substantial damage in forests. Different studies have used empirical methods to measure the impact of drought on trees. More recently, huge advances in genomics have allowed finding potential genetic markers involved in drought resistance or tolerance. In this paper we review some empirical and genomic approaches that have been published in the literature. We suggest that a combination of these two types of approaches allows a better understanding of the mechanisms leading to drought resistance or tolerance.
