A reflective exercise on the issue of sexuality in the view of undergraduate nursing students: evaluating the process
Graciela Dutra Sehnem,Maria de Lourdes Denardin Budó,Lúcia Beatriz Ressel,Emanoeli Büttenbender
Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2008,
Abstract: This paper presents an outline of the field research using a qualitative approach: “Sexuality as a cultural element: signification and resignification in the formation of nurses”. This study involved undergraduate nursing students from a Federal Public University in the south of Brazil, and was carried out through a reflective exercise on sexuality based on a focal group technique, emphasizing the cultural perspective that involves this theme. This work highlights the evaluation process of this experience. The evaluations revealed several positive aspects provided by this exercise, such as the extension of the concept of sexuality, self-knowledge, a personal awakening of interest in humanized care, ambiguity and sharing feelings. The evaluation of the research exercise indicated the necessity to discuss the concept of sexuality in the formation of undergraduate nursing students, enabling the creation of spaces propitious to the manifestations mentioned above.

Moment Explosions and Long-Term Behavior of Affine Stochastic Volatility Models
Martin Keller-Ressel
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We consider a class of asset pricing models, where the risk-neutral joint process of log-price and its stochastic variance is an affine process in the sense of Duffie, Filipovic and Schachermayer [2003]. First we obtain conditions for the price process to be conservative and a martingale. Then we present some results on the long-term behavior of the model, including an expression for the invariant distribution of the stochastic variance process. We study moment explosions of the price process, and provide explicit expressions for the time at which a moment of given order becomes infinite. We discuss applications of these results, in particular to the asymptotics of the implied volatility smile, and conclude with some calculations for the Heston model, a model of Bates and the Barndorff-Nielsen-Shephard model.
Simple examples of pure-jump strict local martingales
Martin Keller-Ressel
Quantitative Finance , 2014,
Abstract: We present simple new examples of pure-jump strict local martingales. The examples are constructed as exponentials of self-exciting affine Markov processes. We characterize the strict local martingale property of these processes by an integral criterion and by non-uniqueness of an associated ordinary differential equation. Finally we show an alternative construction for our examples by an absolutely continuous measure change in the spirit of (Delbaen and Schachermayer, PTRF 1995).

Abstract: this study describes the perception of pain and the meanings it has for adults who use the brazilian public health system, the sistema único de saúde (sus). the sample was comprised of 60 patients who sought the service in the period. this is a descriptive-explanatory research whose data were collected through semi-structured interviews and evaluated qualitatively. the emerging themes were grouped into categories. it was observed that "the meaning of pain" revealed the preponderance of the comprehen-sion of pain as a physical matter. it also showed that pain is related to emotional, sentimental, religious and human circumstances as well. "the reaction of men and women in the face of pain" is perceived differently according to the gender. in questions such as "how do you feel when you are in pain?" the answers varied between affective, cognitive and behavioral.
Ultrafast photodoping and effective Fermi-Dirac distribution of the Dirac particles in Bi2Se3

Abstract: We exploit time- and angle- resolved photoemission spectroscopy to determine the evolution of the out-of-equilibrium electronic structure of the topological insulator Bi2Se. The response of the Fermi-Dirac distribution to ultrashort IR laser pulses has been studied by modelling the dynamics of the hot electrons after optical excitation. We disentangle a large increase of the effective temperature T* from a shift of the chemical potential mu*, which is consequence of the ultrafast photodoping of the conduction band. The relaxation dynamics of T* and mu* are k-independent and these two quantities uniquely define the evolution of the excited charge population. We observe that the energy dependence of the non-equilibrium charge population is solely determined by the analytical form of the effective Fermi-Dirac distribution.
The meaning of sexuality in nurse education

Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2010,
Abstract: Objectives: to reflect on sexuality in a cultural perspective. In a group reflexive exercise, the concepts of this theme have been discussed in groups of undergraduate students of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria in the years 2003 and 2004. Methodology: this is a research with a qualitative approach whose data collection was based on presuppositions of the focus group. Population included 80 nursing undergraduate students of a university in south Brazil, at ages between 18 and 25 years old, male and female, at the third year. A theme analysis of the data was applied. The study has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the Health Sciences Center of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (113/03). Results: the meanings revealed expressed varied senses about sexuality which was highlighted as an element of mediation for the interpersonal relationships and as a human expression of a sexed body. Conclusion: The study enabled the inborn human visibility, universal and singular, however rarely discussed in the formation of nurses. It was possible to visualize sexuality in the perspective of cultural, social, and historic construction; sensitizing participants for the singularities that this topic approaches to each person.
Biologia floral e sistema de reprodu??o de Merostachys riedeliana (Poaceae: Bambusoideae)

Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84042001000200011
Abstract: merostachys riedeliana rupr. is a long-lived monocarp species common in the understorey of tropical semideciduous forest fragments in the south of minas gerais, brazil. its floral biology and breeding system were studied and compared with others bamboos. due to its rhizome, it occurs in clumps and has a remarkable capacity for vegetative multiplication, which ceases a few months before the emergence of the first inflorescences. the beginning of the flowering and the death of the entire population occurred respectively on october 1998 and may 1999. the peak of the blooming episode took place during the hot and rainy months of the year (december and january). each inflorescence produces in average 29 spikelets, which have hermaphrodite florets with three stamens and two plumose stigmas that are exposed during theanthesis. the abundant pollen is easily released by the wind or visitors. apis mellifera l. and trigona spinipes (f.) were the commonest visitors and behave as pollen thieves. these bees occasionally act as devices for dispersion of pollen, through vibration produced in the anthers. the excess of rain during flowering and the lack of wind in the understorey of the forest constrain the effectiveness of the anemophily. however, several morphological characters of the flowers, leaf fall and dense clumps tend to expect for wind pollination. also, the auto-incompatibility index (0.99) showed that m. riedeliana is an autocompatible bamboo. so the auto-incompatibility does not favour the formation of fruits in vegetal clones, and the autocompatibility could result in the high production of seeds. therefore the possible occurrence of clones of m. riedeliana in the forest fragments, due to the effective vegetative growth and the 30-32 years cyclic flowering intervals, might explain the high investment on spikelets production and autocompatible fruits formation.
Biologia floral e sistema de reprodu o de Merostachys riedeliana (Poaceae: Bambusoideae)

Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2001,
Abstract: Merostachys riedeliana Rupr.
On the Limit Distributions of Continuous-State Branching Processes with Immigration
Martin Keller-Ressel,Aleksandar Mijatovic
Mathematics , 2011,
Abstract: We consider the class of continuous-state branching processes with immigration (CBI-processes), introduced by Kawazu and Watanabe (1971) and their limit distributions as time tends to infinity. We determine the Levy-Khintchine triplet of the limit distribution and give an explicit description in terms of the characteristic triplets of the Levy subordinator and the spectrally positive Levy process, which describe the immigration resp. branching mechanism of the CBI-process. This representation allows us to describe the support of the limit distribution and characterise its absolute continuity and asymptotic behavior at the boundary of the support, generalizing several known results on self-decomposable distributions.
