The Performance of the Higher-Order Radiation Condition Method for the Penetrable Cylinder

Abstract: We have considered the scattering of a plane wave by a penetrable acoustic circular cylinder. The boundary conditions are continuity of the total pressure and the total velocity. The wave speed and density of the target are different from that of the surrounding medium. We investigated the performance of higher-order SRCs up to L4 operator in two dimensions. We assume that in the rectangular Cartesian system of axes, (x,y,z), the z axis coincides with the axis of the cylinder and an incident wave propagates in a direction perpendicular to the z axis. All the field quantities are then independent of z. Numerical results are added to present the change of the module of the total field and the magnitude of the far field with respect to θ.

Abstract: In this research, the sensitivities of the parents on the reading and library use habits of their children in the fifth grade of primary schools in 8 central districts in Ankara was studied. Based on the results obtained through a questionnaire survey filled out by 344 fifth grade students, we found that parents are not enough sensitive to their children’s reading and library use habits and it affects the habits of the students negatively.

Abstract: Ger eklik, insandan ba ms z olarak varolan, toplumsal olarak yap land r lan kendinde nesneler dünyas d r ve insanlar n onun hakk ndaki bilgileri kadar de i kendir. S z konusu ger eklik hakk nda bize a klama getirecek bilgimiz yoksa ger eklik de yoktur. “Bilgi süre lerinin ba ar s ” bi iminde tan mlanabilecek toplumsal ger eklik bize g sterildi i l üde vard r. Ger eklik, bilgi ile yap land r lan, anlamland r lan ve iletilen bir olgudur. Bu al mada, toplumsal ger ekli in olu turulmas nda bilgi ve bilgi ta y c s olarak bilgi merkezinin (kütüphane, ar iv dokümantasyon merkezi vb.) i levleri irdelenmektedir. Yap lan de erlendirmede “Bilgi merkezi nemlidir!” nermesi konu ba lam nda temellendirilmeye al lm t r.Reality, that exists independently from human beings and can be constituted socially, contains a world of objects in itself and is changeable according to the changes in the acquired knowledge. In that sense, if our knowledge providing us with an explanation about the reality does not exist, nor does the reality itself. Social reality being defined as “the achievement of knowledge process” exists to the extent as much as we are aware of it. Therefore, reality is a phenomenon, which can be constructed, interpreted and conveyed through the existence of knowledge about it.In the present study, the functions of information centres (ie. eg. libraries, archives, documentation centres etc.) as the reality itself, and also as the conveyor of reality in developing the social reality has been investigated. The social function of the information centre in developing the reality depends upon the assumption that, “the reality cannot be beyond my knowledge; the reality I am not aware of is not a reality”. In this study, the role of knowledge and the information centre as a means of knowledge in ‘causing the existence of knowledge and explaining it’ is to evaluate in terms of the structure underlying information management domain. Thereby, the hypothesis “information centre is important for that very reason” has also been assessed.

Abstract: Turkey has officially started to the negotiation to access to the European Union with the decision of heads of states and prime ministers of EU countries on October 3, 2005. This means that a new stage has started for Turkey in the process of access to the EU. From now on, Turkish libraries will be evaluated under the subject heading of "Education and Culture ". In this study, Turkish public libraries are compared quantitatively with those of EU countries from a number of aspects including number of public libraries, collections, personnel, budgets, librarians, and use. As a result, it appears that public libraries in Turkey and EU countries are quite different. The difference between Turkey and EU rises especially on number of librarians and public library use. Türkiye, AB devlet ve hükümet ba kanlar n n ald klar karar ile 3 Ekim 2005 tarihinde AB ile kat l m müzakerelerine resmen ba lam t r. Bu, Türkiye'nin Avrupa Birli i (AB)'ne kat l m süreci a s ndan yeni bir a ama anlam na gelmektedir. Bu a amadan itibaren Türk halk kütüphaneleri ilgili konu ba l (E itim ve Kültür) alt nda de erlendirilmeye ba lanacakt r. al mam zda, Türk halk kütüphaneleri kütüphane say s , derme, personel, finansal olanaklar, kütüphaneci, kullan m unsurlar a s ndan AB ülkeleri ile niceliksel bir temelde kar la t r lm t r. Sonu ta, Türkiye ile AB ülkeleri aras nda halk kütüphaneleri a s ndan ciddi farklar bulundu u anla lm t r. Bu fark zellikle kütüphaneci personel ve halk kütüphanesi kullan m nda artmaktad r.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to find out the characteristics of reading and public library use habits of selected primary school teachers in Ankara. Data were gathered through questionnaire that were filled out by 127 teachers in 16 primary schools in 6 central districts in Ankara. The reading and public library use of the teachers were evaluated in terms of elements such as age, sex, experience in teaching, primary school curriculum and professional courses. In addition, it was investigated whether they had been educated about these habits in their undergraduate education. The conclusion reached was that the teachers did not have sufficient reading and public library use habits because of the present education system. Bu al ma, Ankara'da g rev yapmakta olan ilk retim retmenlerinin okuma ve halk kütüphanesi kullanma al kanl klar na ili kin zellikleri ortaya koymak amac yla yap lm t r. Ara t rmada, Ankara'da 6 merkez il edeki 16 ilk retim okulunda bulunan 127 retmene anket uygulanm t r. retmenlerin okuma ve halk kütüphanesi kullanma al kanl klar ya , cinsiyet, mesleki deneyim süresi, lisans e itiminde bu al kanl klar konusunda bilgilendirilip bilgilendirilmedikleri, müfredat ve meslek i i e itim gibi unsurlar temelinde incelenmi tir. Ara t rma sonucunda, e itim sisteminden kaynaklanan nedenlerle retmenlerin yeterli okuma ve halk kütüphanesi kullanma al kanl na sahip olmad klar anla lm t r.
