Revista Electronica Interuniversitaria de Formación del Profesorado , 2009,
Abstract: This article focuses on the analysis of Primary, Secondary and High school teachers’ training needs in the Community of Castilla y León (Spain) and on their interest in receiving training to include ICTs in curricular design and development. It also analyses their preferences on how to get this training. In order to discern what their needs are, we try to give an answer to the following questions: Are teachers conscious of the their need for training in order to integrate ICTs in the curriculum?, which is the most demanded type of training and what ways do they prefer to receive that training?, are they really interested in this training, which entails one’s willingness to invest time and effort in the master of the new ICTs?

Abstract: obesity is the main risk factor for insulin resistance (ir) in the pediatric population. ir represents a link between obesity and other metabolic complications such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (t2dm) and cardiovascular disease (cvd). therefore, accurate diagnosis and early intervention may reduce the incidence of t2dm and cvd in at-risk individuals. in this study we describe the techniques used to assess insulin sensitivity in pediatric populations. we also describe in detail three diagnostic tests: the glucose clamp technique, which represents the gold standard to determine tissue insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion; homa and quicki, which are indexes obtained from fasting glucose and insulin concentrations; and isi-composite, obtained from an oral glucose tolerance test, which provides additional information on glucose metabolism after an oral glucose load. in conclusion, the glucose clamp technique is an invasive procedure that is diffcult to use in routine clinical settings. because the cut-off points to diagnose ir with values derived from isi-composite have not been established for pediatric populations, homa and quicki, despite their lack of precision, remain the most used in clinical practice.

Association between Metabolic Syndrome and Erythrocyte Fatty Acid Profile in Mexican Adolescents: A Trans Fatty Acid Approach  [PDF]

The type of fat consumed in the Mexican diet could predispose to the development of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) which has been associated with an increased risk to develop cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our study included adolescents between 12 and 16 years of age, divided in two groups: Control Group (n = 31) and MS Group (n = 44). Waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides, and HDL-cholesterol were determined. Erythrocytes’ fatty acids methyl esthers were quantified using gas chromatography with ionized flame detector. We identified 16 fatty acids (FA) with chain lengths from C12 to C24, with emphasis in four trans FA (TFA) isomers: vaccenic (C18:1n7t), elaidic (C18:1n9t), linoelaidic (C18:2n6t), and conjugated linoelaidic acids (C18:2n7t). MS Group had a less proportion of: myristic (C14), palmitoleic (C16:1), C18:1n7t, and linoleic acids (C18:2); and a higher one of C18:1n9t, C18:2n7t, and nervonic acids (C24:1) when compared to the control group. C24:1 and C18:1n9t had a significant positive association with MS (OR = 14.17 and OR = 12.94, respectively); whereas C14 (OR = 0.14), C18:1n7t (OR = 0.14), and C18:2 (OR = 0.22) appear to have a protective effect against the disease. The proportion of specific FAs in erythrocytes’ membranes differs between adolescents with MS and healthy controls; these FA not only showed a strong association with MS, but also correlated with most of its individual components. Interestingly, TFA displayed an antagonic behavior; while C18:1n9t had a strong association with MS, apparently C18:1n7t confers a protective effect; these results suggest that analyzing each TFA separately will constitute a more accurate approach to determine the role of TFAs in the pathogenesis of MS or other related metabolic disorders.

Aspectos prácticos de la adhesión a dentina

Avances en Odontoestomatología , 2004, DOI: 10.4321/S0213-12852004000100003
Abstract: although, adhesive systems have improve, objectives of new adhesives continue being the same that buonocore described. adhesion must be long-iasting and get a c10sed interface with perfect sealing. we analyse four main principies that describe adhesion: substrate conditioning, the development of new adhesive systems and techniques, union mechanisms (hybrid layer and resin tags), resin and it's polymerisation, taking special attention to resin shrinkage.

Informed Consent in Lumbar Puncture: a Systematic Practice?

MediSur , 2011,
Abstract: Background: the lumbar puncture is an invasive procedure doesn't exempt of risks and for its realization it is necessary to request the patient or family's informed consent. However, this practice is even controversial among our physicians. Objective: to identify how the process of informed consent works for the lumbar puncture in our means and its importance for our professionals. Methods: this study involved 90 physicians who were underwent a validated questionnaire. For the processing of numerical data was used frequency analysis and relative percent. SPSS 11.5 on Windows was employed as statistical system. Results: it was found that informed consent doesn't constitute a systematic practice in our means and was evidenced the deficiencies that even exist in its quality and application. This has been only carried out oral and the informative interest prevails above the respect to the patient's will. The physicians offer insufficient information in aspects like the explanation of the procedure, the contraindications and the complications of proceeding. For most of those interviewed the informed consent is important, but regrettably still some fear that it becomes obstacle for the realization of this to proceed. Conclusions: although most of our physicians value the importance positively of offering the informed consent when they execute the lumbar puncture, many carry out it improperly or they don't still carry out it. Lack of knowledge on the informed consent's ethical foundation and practical aspects is denoted among the physicians interviewed.
Although, adhesive systems have improve, objectives of new adhesives continue being the same that Buonocore described.

Energy and Power Engineering (EPE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/epe.2017.94020
Abstract: This paper presents experimental research about the behavior of different storage devices such as Li-ion, Ni-MH batteries and supercapacitors when charged by a solar photovoltaic system. Photovoltaic systems work as a variable current source, depending on the solar irradiance. These devices present a different profile charge compared to a constant and controlled charge generated by a traditional charger. For this work, several charging and discharging cycles of batteries and supercapacitors under the same environmental conditions were carried out in order to observe the different characteristics of each technology, and some harmful effects on the storage devices operation such as the memory effect and partial discharges involved in the proper functioning of the solar photovoltaic system.
