Baba Md. Deros,Sha'ri Mohd Yusof,Azhari Md Salleh
Jurnal Kejuruteraan , 2008,
Abstract: This paper presents the case study result of a conceptual framework for benchmarking implementation in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which had taken into consideration of SMEs strengths, weaknesses and characteristics. This framework provides a guide on the approach "how to" implement benchmarking, which is simple in structure, systematic and easily understood. The conceptual framework described in this paper was based on gradual implementation and selection of the appropriate key performance measures and benchmarking techniques as and when necessary, with the ultimate aim of improving business competitiveness and performance. Finally, the paper culminates with discussions, suggestions and comments by six case study companies with respect to the conceptual framework applicability and usability in the SMEs environment.

Jurnal Kejuruteraan , 2007,
Abstract: This article is based on a survey conducted on the top management's perceptions and practices of critical success factors (CSFs) with respect to benchmarking implementation in Malaysian automotive components manufacturing companies. The main objectives of this paper is to provide empirical evidence on top management's practices of CSFs for implementing benchmarking among eight different companies categories, comprising of all respondents; quality certified; non-quality certified; Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); large; 100% locally owned, 100% foreign owned; and joint venture companies. To achieve this objective, the authors developed a questionaire comprising of nine major CSFs and 49 elements, checked for reliability and validity by experts adn practitioners. The analyses from 68 respondent companies showed the CSFs for benchmarking implementation were practiced at low to moderatelevel. On overall, there is a significant difference between the CSFs perceived level of importance and extent of practice by the respondant companies. Pair samples t-test results showed there is a significant difference between the level of importance and practices in all CSFs in quality certified, large, SME, 100%, local and joint venture companies. The survey results also showed no significant difference in termsfo level of importance and practice of all the CSFs in 100% foreign companies. In non-quality certifiedcompanies there is no significant difference in terms of level of importance and practice except for four CSFs. Finally, the paper concludes with some suggestions on the steps on how to improve the CSFsadoption rate and thus enhanced business competitiveness and excellence in Malaysia automotive manufacturing comapanies.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2010.23030
Abstract: This study focused on developing an efficient and cost effective processing technique for Moringa oleifera seeds to produce natural coagulant for use in drinking water treatment. The produced natural coagulant can be used as an alternative to aluminum sulphate and other coagulants and used worldwide for water treatment. This study investigates processing Moringa oleifera seeds to concentrate the bio-active constituents which have coagulation activity. Moringa oleifera seeds were processed for oil extraction using electro thermal soxhlet. Isolation and purification of bio-active constituents using chromatography technique were used to determine the molecular weight of the bio-active constituents. The molecular weight of bio-active constitu-ents found to be in a low molecular weight range of between 1000 – 6500 Dalton. The proposed method to isolate and purify the bio-active constituents was the cross flow filtration method, which produced the natu-ral coagulant with very simple technique (oil extraction; salt extraction; and microfiltration through 0.45 µm). The turbidity removal was up to 96.23 % using 0.4 mg/L of processed Moringa oleifera seeds to treat low initial turbidity river water between 34-36 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU) without any additives. The microfiltration method is considered to be a practical method which needs no chemicals to be added com-pared to other researchers proposed methods. The natural coagulant produced was used with low dosages to get high turbidity removal which considered to be a breakthrough in this study and recommended to be scaled up for industry level. The product is commercially valuable at the same time it is minimizing the cost of water treatment.

International Business Management , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/ibm.2012.347.351
Abstract: Mobile phone and agriculture are two different things that can be integrated in so many ways. As other industries are manipulating the advantages of mobile phone so do the agriculture industry. The main objective of this study is to investigate the various purpose of mobile phone usage among the agro-entrepenuers while unleashing the contribution of this tool towards agro-based entreprenuers productivity. Apart from this, this study would like to discover any impacts of mobile phone usage on agro-entreprenuers productivity. This is a quantitative study where a developed instrument was used. A total of 365 respondents across Peninsular Malaysia were surveyed to gain the required data. Majority of the agro-based entreprenuers use mobile phone for seeking information related to their business activities while mobile phone has contributed towards their productivity in term of getting information needed and widening their networkings. Further analysis using independent t-test has confirmed that there was no significant difference in productivitiy for those who use mobile phone frequently and seldomly. It is recommended that responsible agencies such as Department of Agriculture and Malaysia and Communication and Multimedia Commission should play their role in promoting the advantages that mobile phone has in increasing agricultural productivity. Mobile web and phone line specifically for agriculture information should be created in doubling the function of mobile phone in agriculture.

Abstract: This paper discusses about a research with the aim of investigating the potential integration of 3D GIS and virtual technology in designing and developing residential property marketing information system. The method adopted in this research is a standard system development lifecycle; commencing with the user requirements study, followed by the system design, the system development, the system implementation and finally the system evaluation. This research uses an informal method i.e. semi-structured interview, survey questionnaire and review of the existing information system to establish the user requirements. Ten user requirements were outlined alongside with the examination of four 3D integration and three virtual reality methods. Three out four methods of 3D features integration are selected for the system development. The developed system is tested using the black box and white box testing methods. The prototype system can be used by the real estate agents and property developer as the concept, framework and references for future development of a better conducive property marketing information system as well as simplifying the traditional flow of housing selection which gives positive impacts in the marketing transaction.

Biotechnology , 2005,
Abstract: In this study, screening of potential microbes, especially Aspergillus, for citric acid production from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) is carried out to improve the product yield. The fermentation of the raw material POME for the production of citric acid was conducted by the liquid state fermentation process. A total of ten strains of Aspergillus were selected for the screening test of which six strains were isolated from Sewage Treatment Plant Sludge (STP Sludge), purified and identified up to genus level and four strains of Aspergillus were from lab stock. All strains were screened under controlled fermentation conditions such as pH range of 2-3, temperature 30 C and agitation 150 rpm, using 1% (w/w) of substrate (POME), 2% (w/w) co-substrate (wheat flour) with inoculum size of 2% (106 spore mL 1). These strains were examined in terms of maximum citric acid production, biosolid production (TSS%) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) removal. The strain Aspergillus (A103) produced the highest concentration of citric acid (0.28 g L 1), TSS (12.7 g L 1) and COD removal (72%) followed by A1020, A-SS106 and others on 2-4 days of fermentation.

Jurnal Informatika , 2006,
Abstract: The relational data model approach is still used broadly in developing of data and information storage of the most application systems. The main restricted of using the relational model data das not support dynamically in storing information in which much more semantically of the knowledge must be kept on that data. On other hand, if information intend to be considered more formally concrete knowledge as in reality, it's difficult to retrieve the persistent data or information on the various ways of the user need. This paper has researched, analysed, and discussed of data modelling by using an ontology model based approached on constructing the data bank of flight schedule information as knowledge bases model. A protégé ontology software is used to arrange a model of flight schedule information in form of classes hierarchical, slots, and instances. The flight ontology model that has built can indicate much more semantics of flight schedule information. Additionally, the model can be used easily in form of many way of user perception need in order to make queries and results.
