Abstract: This study was designed to determine how, after the implementation of the new elementary school Science and Technology Course curriculum, 7th and 9th grade students perceive, construct in their mind the concept of energy and related concepts; and how the perceptions change over time. Thus, a questionnaire consisting of four open-ended questions was administrated to a total of 120 among 6th-, 7th- and 8th-grade students. A qualitative analysis of the data indicated that students have difficulties in constructing the concepts of energy, energy supply, form of energy and transportation of energy.
Determination of Screw and Nail Withdrawal Resistance of Some Important Wood Species
Alper Aytekin
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2008, DOI: 10.3390/ijms9040626
Abstract: In this study, screw and nail withdrawal resistance of fir (Abies nordmanniana), oak (Quercus robur L.) black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold) and Stone pine (Pinus pinea L.) wood were determined and compared. The data represent the testing of withdrawal resistance of three types of screws as smart, serrated and conventional and common nails. The specimens were prepared according to TS 6094 standards. The dimensions of the specimens were 5x5x15cm and for all of the directions. Moreover, the specimens were conditioned at ambient room temperature and 65±2% relative humidity. The screws and nails were installed according to ASTM-D 1761 standards. Nail dimensions were 2.5mm diameter and 50 mm length, conventional screws were 4x50mm, serrated screws were 4x45mm and smart screws were 4x50mm. Results show that the maximum screw withdrawal resistance value was found in Stone pine for the serrated screw. There were no significant differences between Stone pine and oak regarding screw withdrawal resistance values. Conventional screw yielded the maximum screw withdrawal resistance value in oak, followed by Stone pine, black pine and fir. Oak wood showed the maximum screw withdrawal resistance value for the smart screw, followed by Stone pine, black pine, and fir. Oak wood showed higher nail withdrawal resistances than softwood species. It was also determined that oak shows the maximum nail withdrawal resistance in all types. The nail withdrawal resistances at the longitudinal direction are lower with respect to radial and tangential directions.

Treatment Approaches for Cutaneous Leishmaniasis
Sema Aytekin
Turkderm , 2009,
Abstract: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a widespread tropical infection caused by numerous different species of Leishmania protozoa. In our country, CL is due frequently to L. major and L. tropica. Its clinical presentation is extremely diverse. Treatment of CL aims to prevent mucosal invasion, to accelerate the healing of skin lesions, and avoid disfiguring scar. Local and physical treatment modalities including topical paromomycin, cryotherapy, localized controlled heat, carbon dioxide laser therapy, or pentavalant antimonals can be effective against. Intralesional antimonals are still the drug of choice may patients. WHO recommends an injection of drug under edges of the lesions and the entire lesion until the surface has blanched. Parenteral antimonials are useful for large, persistent or recurrent lesions. Combinations with other drugs such as allopurinol, pentoxifylline must be used for antimony unresponsive lesions.

Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2016.64031
Abstract: In this study, the main subject is the role of the Communications and Internet Revolution in International Relations. The principal motivation of the author to conduct this essay is the need to develop a conceptual and theoretical examination on communications and internet revolution in International Relations. That need is produced by certain technological and structural developments in human life and their effects on the classical understanding of the international relations. The revolutionary developments in communications and internet technology as significant drivers of globalization process, transformation of the communications and information technology into a core of a new world information economy have come into question as globalization proceeds and with the communications and internet revolution we need to understand why global networking has been grown as it did. The main inquiry in this study is whether the rise of global communications has consequences that fundamentally alter the practice of international relations. In order to provide a comprehensive response, the Communications and Internet revolution, the social network and increasing velocity of information must be analyzed clearly.
Identity in Security Studies  [PDF]
Elnur Hasan Mikail, Cavit Emre Aytekin
Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2016.64030
Abstract: Security as a central concept in International Relations discipline is strongly related with the existence and survival. That broader understanding becomes the initial point of discussions and inquires about what is to be secured and how it can be secured. In fundamental level, those questions moved the concept of security towards meta-theoretical discussions in International Relations. After those meta-theoretical discussions, a general acceptance has been reached on the reference object of security as the security of humans and states within Security Studies. In different terms, the emphases over those objects and their priority in the security studies have differed. In general, that change in the object of security studies has been parallel with developments and turning points in discussions over International Relations theory. In this study, the main aim is to discover the effect of constructivist turn in International Relations theory to the security studies through analyzing new concepts, variables and methods, such as identity and perception.
New evidence on the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta (linnaeus 1758) in Peru
