Nabuco, um diálogo em aberto
Nogueira, Marco Aurélio;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002010000300003
Abstract: the article explores the legacy of joaquim nabuco and suggests that his political, diplomatic and intellectual involvement with the questions of his time has something to say about the dilemmas we face today as a society, in our established republic - above all, about the way brazilian society has implemented (or has failed to implement) the needed social reforms and has sought to build a society that is able to integrate all of its citizens.
Ruptura geracional induzida e estratégias de gest?o: a experiência nas montadoras do sul fluminense
Santana, Marco Aurélio;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302010000200005
Abstract: the induced generation gap has been one of the most prominent and successful tool within the strategies implemented by the companies in the recent years. at stake here is an induced generation gap, in keeping with the objective changes that have taken place in the industrial sector, which both reinforces them and undermines the identity and collective potential of workers. one of the best examples of this mechanism is the french case analyzed by stephane beaud e michel pialoux in retour sur la condition ouvrière. this paper analyzes the particular case of the automotive industry in southern rio de janeiro. it evaluates its concrete impacts taking into account: 1) the possible weakening of the working class and of its forms of resistance; 2) the generation gap; 3) the separation between "employable" and "unemployable"; 4) the possible disarticulation of worker collective actions and 5) the erosion of the transmission of traditional identity values.
Uma crise de longa dura??o
Nogueira, Marco Aurélio;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142009000300003
Abstract: this paper aims to explore the idea that we are currently facing a situation of institutional unrest and political crisis strongly concentrated on political subjectivity, that is, on players, ideas and projects of society. it attempts to discuss the recent crisis in brazil's senate as an expression of this situation, but also as a reflection of a wider framework, which affects modern parliaments in general and could be seen as resultant from a siege laid by government decisionism and social pressures to the legislative branch, depriving it from its axis and capacity to act. echoing the dominant features of the present time, political systems and, by inference, parliaments are rendered less able to interact in a virtuous way with culture and social structures that derive from the new terms of globalized life, that is, with plural, fragmented, reflexive, quick and explosive societies.
O quintal da minha casa
Michiles, Aurélio;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142005000100017
Abstract: the backyard of my home depicts men's life in the amazon region, albeit in the manner of a cutout that includes the personal experience of a documentary filmmaker. seeking out characters that might relate to this experience, two colorized postcards - specifically of the floating city - become glosses of the undertaking.
Hegel e W. Benjamin: varia??es em torno da crise da arte na época moderna
Werle, Marco Aurélio;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2004000100002
Abstract: this article analyzes and compares hegel's and w. benjamin's reflections on the crisis of art in modern age, taking as its basis the resemblances and differences between (i) the thesis of the end of art, championed by the former, and (ii) the conception of aura decay in the work of art, posited by the latter. while w. benjamin sticks to the change in the concept of art brought on by technique, hegel considers the transformations in art from a broad historical point of view, from ancient times through modern age.
Para uma governabilidade democrática progressiva
Nogueira, Marco Aurélio;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64451995000200007
Abstract: the concept of governability is examined from an angle that emphasizes "democratic eficiency" rather than the technical conditions for government. it is argued that, given the new "socially necessary disregard for politics", governability is only possible in democratic and simultaneously progressive terms.
Gramsci, a crise da política e a esquerda em crise
Nogueira, Marco Aurélio;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64451998000100005
Abstract: sixty years after gramsci's death the author points out the theoretical-political importance of the way gramsci includes the civil society in an "amplified theory of the state". on this basis some reflections are made about gramsci's thought as a whole and about a democratic political program for the left.
Ensaio bibliográfico trabalho, trabalhadores e sindicatos em meio ao vendaval contemporaneo
Santana, Marco Aurélio;
Dados , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582000000200007
Abstract: around the globe, the labor world has undergone profound transformations that have given rise to much research and broad debate. a wide gamut of topics have been explored in an effort to understand the scale of impact these changes have had. one question that has merited attention is how this whole process affects labor, workers, and their organizational forms, as well as regulatory models in the realm of labor. taking three studies as its point of departure, the present article analyzes current diagnoses and prognostics regarding these questions and examines the role that workers and unions might play in this new picture.
Desafios e miss?o do intelectual público
Nogueira, Marco Aurélio;
Dados , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582009000400001
Abstract: this article aims to pay tribute to the social scientist carlos estevam martins by reflecting on the figure of the intellectual in the contemporary world. the premise is that a transfiguration is taking place, reinforcing the trend towards overspecialization that hinders intellectuals from engaging in civic ideas and passion. paradoxically, however, this same transfiguration requires the intellectual's active presence as a character capable of producing meanings and totalizations, and thereby collaborating with the political community to discover more advanced forms of self-awareness.
Entre a ruptura e a continuidade: vis?es da história do movimento sindical brasileiro
Santana, Marco Aurélio;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69091999000300007
Abstract: the article analyses some of the views consolidated during the construction of political identities around the so-called "new unionism". these views, which arose in the late seventies through the coming together of the social movement and academic debate, were characterised by the idea of a clean break between the past and present of the brazilian trade union movement, thereby establishing a gulf between the new and the old trade unionism. taking into account the development of "new unionism" and further studies on the brazilian labour movement, the author points out the limits of this perspective based on a breach with the past. moreover, he presents an alternative interpretation that emphasises the continuity of certain practices in the workers' organisational experiences. through examples, the article argues that the "new unionism" can be seen as continuing long-term traditions.
