AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STOCK MARKET AND MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES IN INDIA

Abstract: The present paper is aimed at studying the nature of the causal relationship between stock prices and macroeconomic variables in India, if any such relationship exists. For this purpose the techniques of unit– root tests, cointegration and the Granger causality test have been applied between the NSE Index ‘Nifty’ and the macroeconomic variables, viz. , Real effective economic rate (REER), Foreign Exchange Reserve (FER), and Balance of Trade (BoT), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Index of industrial production (IIP), Wholesale price index (WPI) using monthly data for the period from 1st April 2006 to 31st March 2010 have been studied.The major findings of the study are (i) there is no co integration between Nifty and all other variables except Wholesale price index (WPI) as per Johansen Co integration test. Therefore causal relationship between such macro economic variables having no co integration with nifty is not established. (ii) Nifty does not Granger Cause WPI and WPI also does not Granger Cause Nifty.

Abstract: Cloud computing promises to increase the velocity with which application are deployed, increase innovation and lower costs, all while increasing business agility and hence envisioned as the next generation architecture of IT Enterprise. Nature of cloud computing builds an established trend for driving cost out of the delivery of services while increasing the speed and agility with which services are deployed. Cloud Computing incorporates virtualization, on demand deployment, Internet delivery of services and open source software .From another perspective, everything is new because cloud computing changes how we invent, develop, deploy, scale, update, maintain and pay for application and the infrastructure on which they run. Because of these benefits of Cloud Computing, it requires an effective and flexible dynamic security scheme to ensure the correctness of users’ data in the cloud. Fungal Spectrum in Otomycosis Patients

Abstract: Mycological analysis was carried out on debris, scraping or exudate samples from the externalauditory canal(s) of 102 patients clinically suspected cases of otomycosis. The total number ofsamples taken from 102 patients were 108, of which 102 samples were obtained from one ear and 6samples from the other ear. Predisposing factors contributing to such a presentation weredermatomycosis (51.22%), turban usage (29.26%), veil usage (14.63%) and swimming (4.88%).Only 82 (75.92%) samples were positive for the presence of fungal elements, of which 48(44.44%)specimens were smear and culture positive while 34(31.48%) were smear negative but culturepositive. Males and females were almost equally affected, ratio being (1.1:1). Chief fungal isolatesincluded Aspergillus niger (52.43%), Aspergillus fumigatus (34.14%), Candida albicans (11%),Candida pseudotropicalis (1.21%) and Mucor sp. (1.21%). Among 8 patients mixed fungal growthwas obtained, while bacterial coinfection/ superinfection was detected in 14 cases.

Abstract: The general characteristic equation is derived for the helically cladded step-index optical fiber. The dispersion curves are drawn for the different pitch angles Ψ and mode order ν = 1. The effect of helix pitch angle on the dispersion characteristics and also on the modal cut-off condition is examined. Except for the lowest order mode, all the modes appear in pairs. The lowest order mode displays the negative dispersion for the some value of normalized frequency V and depends on the helix pitch angle Ψ.
ROLE OF PHYTOESTROGEN IN TREATMENT OF CANCER: A REVIEW

Abstract: Phytoestrogens are a group of naturally occurring estrogen-like diphenolic compounds present in legumes, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. These dietary flavonoids have drawn much attention because there are possibilities that they might benefit human health. There are more than 300 foods have been shown to contain phytoestrogens. High consumption of phytoestrogen-rich food has been linked to a reduced incidence of cancers at different sites including breast, prostate, lung and colon. In spite of initial optimism, it is not clear whether eating foods rich in phytoestrogens decreases breast cancer risk. In the United States phytoestrogens appears to lower lung cancer risk in both smokers and non-smokers. Most food phytoestrogens are from one of three chemical classes, the isoflavonoids, the lignans or the coumestans. It is currently unclear whether phytoestrogens from soy foods affect breast cancer risk. Traditional Japanese and Chinese diets are rich in foods containing phytoestrogenic compounds, whereas the Western diet is a poor source of these phytochemicals. This is an active area of research with much work needed to resolve this issue. This review presents the most current information and indicates where more research would be helpful.

Abstract: Environmental protection and conservation are major issues all over the world. Main causes of environmental deterioration are urbanization, industrialization, population explosion, disruption of natural ecological balances, over-exploitation of resources, and destruction of a multitude of animal and plant species for economic reasons. The problem of environmental pollution has acquired international dimension and India is no exception to it. There is need for the effective enforcement of the Constitutional mandate and other environmental legislations to protect and conserve the environment. It has been observed that Supreme Court of India has been actively engaged in the protection of environment and many Public Interest Litigations have been instituted against many industries for failing to provide adequate pollution control. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to briefly outline the Supreme Court cases against Ganga pollution.
COMPARATIVE, QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE CHEMOTYPIC CHARACTERIZATION AMONG NORTH INDIAN TRIBULUS TERRESTRIS

Abstract: In India, Several medicinal plant species are used in herbal drug industries, whereas Tribulus terrestris extract has an ancient tradition in folk medicine and in ayurveda as a diuretic, mood enhancer, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. Due to few phytochemical and pharmacological studies, there are no quality criteria for this Tribulus terrestris species as raw material. In this work, we present unique fingerprints of six samples of Tribulus terrestris population relating to the presence of flavonoids, alkaloid and saponins. Qualitative analysis of the phytochemicals of methanolic extracts revealed the presence of carbohydrates, saponins, phytosterols, phenols, flavonoids and tannins in all the plants. Quantitative analysis showed that the crude saponin was the major phytochemical constituent present in highest percentage followed by crude tannin in all six plants. These chemical characterizations can provide, for example, authentication of samples, detection of adulterations, and differentiation between closely related species.

Spin Relaxation in Germanium Nanowires

Abstract: We use semiclassical Monte Carlo approach along with spin density matrix calculations to model spin polarized electron transport. The model is applied to germanium nanowires and germanium two dimensional channels to study and compare spin relaxation between them. Spin dephasing in germanium occurs because of Rashba Spin Orbit Interaction (structural inversion asymmetry) which gives rise to D'yakonov-Perel(DP) relaxation. In germanium spin flip scattering due to Elliot-Yafet(EY) mechanism also leads to spin relaxation. The spin relaxation tests for both 1-D and 2-D channels are carried out at different values of temperature and driving electric field and the variation in spin relaxation length is recorded. Spin relaxation length in a nanowire is found to be much higher than that in a 2-D channel due to suppression of DP relaxation in a nanowire. At lower temperatures the spin relaxation length increases. This suggests that spin relaxation in germanium occurs slowly in a 1-D channel (nanowires) and at lower temperatures. The electric field dependence of spin relaxation length was found to be very weak.
