Lymph node co-infection of Mycobacterium avium complex and cytomegalovirus in an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patient

Abstract: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients are known to have an increased tendency for developing opportunistic infections. However, there are no reports of simultaneous lymph node involvement of cytomegalovirus and Mycobacterium avium complex in a human immunodeficiency virus-positive patient. We report a 31-year-old man who presented with acute abdominal pain and tenderness and weight loss. He died a few hours after admission. Autopsy studies showed coinfection of cytomegalovirus, Mycobacterium avium complex and human immunodeficiency virus. Our case emphasizes the need to be careful in evaluating opportunistic infections in severely immunodepressed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients. This case report is the first manifestation of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in this patient.

Abstract: This paper presents the design of Optimal Infinite-Impulse Response (IIR) digital filters using Genetic Algorithm (GA). IIR filter is essentially a digital filter with Recursive responses. Since the error surface of digital IIR filters is generally nonlinear and multimodal, global optimization techniques are required in order to avoid local minima. This paper presents heuristic way for the designing IIR filters. GA is a powerful global optimization algorithm introduced in combinatorial optimization problems. The paper finds the optimum Coefficients of IIR digital filter through GA. Design of Lowpass and High pass IIR digital filter is proposed to provide estimate of transition band. It is found that the calculated values are more optimal than fda tool available for the design of filter in MATLAB. The simulation result of the employed examples shows an improvement on transition band and mean-square-error (MSE). The position of pole-zero is also presented to describe stability and results are compared with Simulated Annealing (SA) method.

Abstract:

Very often it so happens that the cost of operating an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) exceeds the cost of purchasing the IDS itself. In such cases, regular operation and maintenance of the system becomes expensive. Thus, it becomes essential to reduce the operating cost of the IDS without compromising on the performance and reliability of the IDS. Apart from the initial cost of procuring the IDS, other costs include cost of accessories required and cost of administration etc. In this paper we calculate the cost benefit tradeoffs of an IDS. We propose a method to determine the optimum operating point of the IDS. In an effort to solve the problems of the previously proposed metrics, we propose a decision tree based approach to calculate the cost of operating an IDS in a mobile ad hoc network. Mathematically and programmatically we deduce the minimum operating point of operation of an IDS and generate the receiver operating characteristic curve of the IDS. To further ascertain this, we use available network packet capture data and calculate the minimum operating cost of an IDS. The main motive behind this paper is to show that the cost of operating an IDS in a MANET can be minimized and hence the effectiveness and performance of the IDS can be maximized.

Abstract: Since inception, share markets have attracted investors worldwide as a shortcut for making money. Circuit stocks price behavior is either increasing or decreasing continuously for certain period of time. Normal stocks do not have any fix pattern. However, using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), we can predict the price behavior of normal stocks. ANN trained by using back propagation algorithm of feed forward neural network based on the historical stock price is used to predict the future stock price of the shares.

Abstract: Microscopic analysis of a crude drug facilitate the researchers for appropriate identification of a drug and abolish adulteration and provide a basis for authentication of crude drug. The present investigation involves the plant drug Lens esculenta Moench. belonging to family Papilionaceae. It is cultivated as a pulse crop. Even though the plant has captured scientific emphasis recently, there is a need for standardization. Hence in present work the seed part of the plant is subjected to various microscopic assessments. In the microscopic studies different cell structure and arrangement were studied.
Construction of Almost Disjunct Matrices for Group Testing

Abstract: In a \emph{group testing} scheme, a set of tests is designed to identify a small number $t$ of defective items among a large set (of size $N$) of items. In the non-adaptive scenario the set of tests has to be designed in one-shot. In this setting, designing a testing scheme is equivalent to the construction of a \emph{disjunct matrix}, an $M \times N$ matrix where the union of supports of any $t$ columns does not contain the support of any other column. In principle, one wants to have such a matrix with minimum possible number $M$ of rows (tests). One of the main ways of constructing disjunct matrices relies on \emph{constant weight error-correcting codes} and their \emph{minimum distance}. In this paper, we consider a relaxed definition of a disjunct matrix known as \emph{almost disjunct matrix}. This concept is also studied under the name of \emph{weakly separated design} in the literature. The relaxed definition allows one to come up with group testing schemes where a close-to-one fraction of all possible sets of defective items are identifiable. Our main contribution is twofold. First, we go beyond the minimum distance analysis and connect the \emph{average distance} of a constant weight code to the parameters of an almost disjunct matrix constructed from it. Our second contribution is to explicitly construct almost disjunct matrices based on our average distance analysis, that have much smaller number of rows than any previous explicit construction of disjunct matrices. The parameters of our construction can be varied to cover a large range of relations for $t$ and $N$.
