Abstract: in brazil, face an issue like abortion requires a lay perspective considering that the freedom of conscience assured by the federal constitution lays upon the state the need to look not only at different views from different religions but specially assure the right to the existing diversity within the same religion, as well as, the right to diverge from the hierarchy of his/her own religion. therefore there is no legal barrier for the decriminalization of abortion in the country. it is up to the legislators to reform the present law to decriminalize abortion, assuming the commitments made by brazil upon international organizations for the protection of the human rights assuring the efficacy of lay liberties.

Abstract: the institution of marriage must be available to all citizens, irrespective of their sexual orientation, otherwise we have a case of discrimination, forbidden by the constitution. jurisprudence in brazil has used analogy to recognize stable unions between same sex couples, even if the constitution foresees stable unions as being "between a man and a woman." such legal interpretation must be widened, ensuring same-sex marriage. from the juridical viewpoint then, it is a matter of securing a right that gays and lesbians already have, the right to be accepted and not suffer discrimination. it is not a matter of creating a new, specific, 'gay' or 'lesbian' right. those who claim the need for a specific law regulating same-sex marriage seem to ignore the fact that the regulation of heterosexual and homosexual marriage must be rigorously the same in both cases.

Abstract: O processo de modernidade teve especial significa o no Brasil no século XIX. Entre as esferas de sua influência, a que mais se destacou foi a do recinto escolar. A ideia de civilizar a popula o por meio de um saber vinculado à moraliza o, ordenamento religioso, civilidade, etc. , passou a n o ser suficiente para a forma o do novo homem alfabetizado demandado pelo novel padr o de desenvolvimento industrial. Ao par, e n o menos importante, instituiu-se uma “machina de ensinar” subordinada aos interesses do capitalismo em consolida o. Houve, sem dúvida, uma adequa o do sistema de educa o à produ o e, principalmente, ao consumo em massa. Uma nova racionalidade imp s-se, a qual estava vinculada principalmente à aquisi o da escrita, objeto deste estudo. The modernity process had a special meaning in Brazil on the XIX century. Among its influential areas the most significant was the school premises. The idea to civilize the population through knowledge, which was tied to the moralization, religious ordainment, civility, etc. , started to be insufficient to the formation of the new alphabetized man now demanded by the new pattern of industrial development. Also, and not least important, a “teaching machine” was introduced subordinated to the capitalism interests in consolidation. There is, without any doubts, an adequacy of the education system to the production and, mostly, to the mass consumerism. A new reasoning enforces itself. And it is connected specially to the writing acquisition.

Abstract: objectives: availability of state-of-the-art technology at intensive care units has often turned into a tool aggravating suffering by prolonging the end-of-life process. distinguishing therapeutic persistence from therapeutic obstinacy has become a great challenge for present-day medicine. the aim of this study was to assess the benefit-harm relation in the use of life-sustaining therapies by means of an evolutionary system of individual prognostic assessment. methods: a cohort, prospective, observational study at the intensive care unit of the s?o francisco de paula university hospital of ucpel, pelotas rs from march 2006 to august 31, 2007. individual prognostic assessments were recorded by using an evolutionary system, the unicamp ii index, associated with albumin transferrin and lymphocytes serum levels, life- sustaining therapies and the outcome. statistical analysis was carried out by the student's t-test, anova test, chi-square test, fisher's exact test, spearman's correlation test and area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve. a p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. results: four hundred forty seven patients were assessed during the study. prevalence of death was significantly higher among those who received life-sustaining therapies at a later stage of the intervention, and those whose prognostic index and nutritional status worsened at an early stage of intervention. conclusion: assessment of individual evolutionary prognostic proved to be a useful method to objectively subsidize ethical decisions related to therapeutic persistence and therapeutic obstinacy.

Abstract: Neste estudo apresentamos os resultados de um conjunto de a es de pesquisa, realizadas por uma equipe multidisciplinar, que procurou organizar e estruturar mecanismos, ferramentas e metodologias para uma proposta de educa o diferenciada,baseada na web. Como resultado, além de uma metodologia para a prepara o de cursos, foi estruturada e disponibilizada uma primeira vers o de Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem. O objetivo era viabilizar experiências de educa o a distancia, a serem validadas pelos próprios educadores em forma o, realizando a prepara o e oferta dedisciplinas de gradua o. Com isso, o professor poder vivenciar a lógica que permeia as diferentes tecnologias com suas características específicas, como por exemplo, as ferramentas de comunica o síncronas (bate-papos) ou assíncronas (fóruns), que possibilitam qualificar o diálogo pedagógico com seus alunos e alunas. Abstract In this study we present the results of a set of research action, carried through by a multispecialty team, who seeked to organize and configure mechanisms, tools, and methodologies for a differentiated education proposal, based in the web. As result, besides a methodology to prepare courses, a first version of a Learning Virtual Environment was structuralized and publicized. The objective was to make distance education experiences feasible, to be validated by the educators under formation themselves, carrying out the preparation and offer of undergraduate disciplines. Therefore, the teacher is capable of experiencing the logic inside the different technologies with their specific characteristics, e.g. synchronous (chats) or asynchronous (forums) tools of communication, that enable thecharacterization of the pedagogical dialog between pupils (male and female). Constructed on the basis of the democratic principles of a Communitarian Institution, that considers the development of knowledge as a collective construction based on dialog and cooperation, the accomplishment of this experience allows a glimpse the scenario of insertion of the different social actors in the proposals of Distance Education.
Evolución clínica y radiológica en el tratamiento de hernia discal con prótesis PDN-SOLO con ancla: seguimiento mínimo a tres a?os

Abstract: objective: the prosthetic nucleus (pdn-solo) reconstruct the anatomy and preserve the biomechanics of intervertebral disc with a migration rate of 10% and sinking rate of 19%. therefore, a fixing system to avoid these complications was proposed. methods: a total of 20 patients were followed-up for at least three years. the assessment of pain with vas, oswestry scale function (os) and disk by radiological studies and magnetic resonance imaging were applied. statistical analysis was made by student's t-test. results: the subjects were 12 men and 8 women with a mean age of 37.6 years. vas preoperative values were 7.6 points and os 67%, the height of intervertebral space was 7.67 mm. for three years, the vas pain score was 0.7 and os less than 6% (p<0.000). there was an increase of average disc height of 2 mm. prosthesis showed mobility in rotation during the initial placement in 12 patients. in 2 cases the implant migrated and it was necessary to remove it. the vas evaluation and os were 0.7 points and 1.4%. the height greed of intersomatic space improved in 2.5 mm. a migration in 23 months by non-indicated physical exertion represented 5%. there was no sinking. conclusion: we can be concluded that there was a reduction of pain and degree of disability associated with less edema platforms and increase the intervertebral space.
