Abstract: Estrogens and phytoestrogens have neuroprotective effect against neuronal damage induced by cerebral ischemia /reperfusion (I/R) injury. In preceding studies, the phytoestrogen effects have been assessed by administration previous to the ischemic period, conditions which are unusual to apply to the treatment of human stroke. Here we present a study on neuroprotection afforded by genistein on rat embryo cortical neurons subjected to oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) followed by re-oxigenation, when added after the stress stimulus. At 1 and 2 h of OGD times and after 24 h of reperfusion, cell viability, necrotic, apoptotic and autophagic cell death and different parameters related to oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction were measured in the absence and presence of 1 µM genisteine. We found an in-creasing loss of neuronal viability after 1-5 h of OGD which was only reversed in part by 24 h of reperfusion. These changes were preceded by increases in ROS generation, caspase-3 activation, LDH release and increase in LC3B lipi-dation, indicative of autophagia. Treatment with 1 µM genistein during the 24 h reperfusion significantly attenuated neuronal necrosis and autophagia induced by 1 and 2 h of OGD exposure. Genistein also decreased ROS generation and lipid-peroxidation induced by 2 h of OGD. These results suggest an important neuroprotective effect of genistein against transient post-ischemic-like conditions

Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We consider a compressive hyperspectral imaging reconstruction problem, where three-dimensional spatio-spectral information about a scene is sensed by a coded aperture snapshot spectral imager (CASSI). The approximate message passing (AMP) framework is utilized to reconstruct hyperspectral images from CASSI measurements, and an adaptive Wiener filter is employed as a three-dimensional image denoiser within AMP. We call our algorithm "AMP-3D-Wiener." The simulation results show that AMP-3D-Wiener outperforms existing widely-used algorithms such as gradient projection for sparse reconstruction (GPSR) and two-step iterative shrinkage/thresholding (TwIST) given the same amount of runtime. Moreover, in contrast to GPSR and TwIST, AMP-3D-Wiener need not tune any parameters, which simplifies the reconstruction process.
Compressive Hyperspectral Imaging via Approximate Message Passing

Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We consider a compressive hyperspectral imaging reconstruction problem, where three-dimensional spatio-spectral information about a scene is sensed by a coded aperture snapshot spectral imager (CASSI). The CASSI imaging process can be modeled as suppressing three-dimensional coded and shifted voxels and projecting these onto a two-dimensional plane, such that the number of acquired measurements is greatly reduced. On the other hand, because the measurements are highly compressive, the reconstruction process becomes challenging. We previously proposed a compressive imaging reconstruction algorithm that is applied to two-dimensional images based on the approximate message passing (AMP) framework. AMP is an iterative algorithm that can be used in signal and image reconstruction by performing denoising at each iteration. We employed an adaptive Wiener filter as the image denoiser, and called our algorithm "AMP-Wiener." In this paper, we extend AMP-Wiener to three-dimensional hyperspectral image reconstruction, and call it "AMP-3D-Wiener." Applying the AMP framework to the CASSI system is challenging, because the matrix that models the CASSI system is highly sparse, and such a matrix is not suitable to AMP and makes it difficult for AMP to converge. Therefore, we modify the adaptive Wiener filter and employ a technique called damping to solve for the divergence issue of AMP. Our approach is applied in nature, and the numerical experiments show that AMP-3D-Wiener outperforms existing widely-used algorithms such as gradient projection for sparse reconstruction (GPSR) and two-step iterative shrinkage/thresholding (TwIST) given a similar amount of runtime. Moreover, in contrast to GPSR and TwIST, AMP-3D-Wiener need not tune any parameters, which simplifies the reconstruction process.

Abstract: specific management guides for suprarenal incidentalomas detected after birth do not exist for children, but due to the high proportion of malignant tumors, surgical resection is recommended. we present the case of a 7-year-old patient with a non-functioning left suprarenal incidentaloma. surgical resection and subsequent anatomopathologic analysis of the mass confirmed the diagnosis of ganglioneuroma in process of maturation. most ganglioneuromas are incidental and have a good prognosis due to their benign behaviour, even though malignant transformation has also been described, for which reason postoperative controls to detect local recurrence and occurrence of new foci are recommended.

Abstract: the indications of frozen section diagnosis (fs) in surgery due to urologic neoplasia are quite specific, and this explains the fact that they amount to a mere 7.3% of the fss performed in general hospitals. this also makes the precise knowledge of their usefulness necessary, and thus we are submitting the present review. generally speaking, fs is not warranted to identify the nature of a tumoral mass, with the following exceptions: 1) renal masses of a doubtful parenchymal origin, or in the urinary tract: 2) in testicular neoplasias, when the possibility of a conservative treatment arises; 3) determination of the presence of a prostate adenocarcinoma in an organ donor with high serum psa; but even in these circumstances its need is widely controversial. intraoperative determination of surgical margins is particularly useful in: 1) partial nephrectomies (it may be limited to inspection after dyeing the margin with indian ink - bed freezing is very seldom needed); 2) urethral margins in women with total cystectomies and orthotopic substitution; 3) in partial penectomies (always studying the urethral margin and the cavernosal and spongiosal corpora margins). the study of the nodes is a widely debated issue, and except for those cases in which unexpectedly increased node size is found, systematic fs is indicated neither of the bladder nor of the prostate. the situation regarding penis carcinoma is different, as in the groups with intermediate and high risk of node metastasis, even though there is around 16% - 18% of false negatives fs is recommended, particularly of radioisotope-marked sentinel nodes.

Abstract: the objective of this article is to contribute at the present time for the reflection about the teacher's infant education formation. therefore, it is done a revision of the bibliography that has been alerting for the interfaces of the neo-liberalism and the post-modernism with the educational politics and, especially, the politics of teacher's formation. the documents produced by mec, as guiding for the implementation of the neo-liberal ideal in the field of the teacher's infant education formation, are analyzed, as references as for the teacher's formation as to define knowledge to be worked in the education from 0 to 6. at the end, we conclude that the tendencies of this process are the haste the teacher's formation, the gradual loss of control of the same ones on its professional exercise and the transformation of the classrooms of infant education in labs of implementation of the pedagogic ideals intimated to the neo-liberalism and the post-modernism.
Un realismo de lo irreal: la imaginación material en la obra de Juan José Saer
Arce,Rafael;
Anclajes , 2009,
Abstract: this article proposes to read juan josé saer's narrative from the perspective of gaston bachelard's phenomenology. the analysis focuses on three novels, which are considered to be representative of the argentine author, and inquires into which bachelard calls material imagination in his poetic analyses. this notion allows to hypothesize about saer's realism, which has been conceived in terms of representation and related to the topic of perception, especially in this narrative. this reading does not propose a simple methodological transfer but finds its potential in the realistic approach to a piece of writing carried out from the microscopic phenomenology of bachelard, who studied mainly poetry and fantastic narratives. it is about an inherent problem to saer's narrative, that is to say, the tension between liberation of material imagination in a narrative regulated by formal imagination, which is related to the novel structure and to the prerogatives of realistic verisimilitude.
