POR UMA GEOGRAFIA DO TRABALHO! (REFLEX ES PRELIMINARES)
Antonio Thomaz Júnior
Revista Tamoios , 2005,
Mendon?a, Marcelo Rodrigues;Júnior, Antonio Thomaz;

Renal involvement in human rabies: clinical manifestations and autopsy findings of nine cases from northeast of Brazil
Daher, Elizabeth De Francesco;Silva Júnior, Geraldo Bezerra da;Ferreira, Marúsia Thomaz;Barros, Fernando Antonio de Sousa;Gurgel, Tiago Magalh?es;Patrocínio, Régia Maria do Socorro Vidal;
Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46652005000600002
Abstract: a retrospective study was conducted in nine patients with rabies admitted to a hospital of fortaleza, brazil. autopsy was performed in all cases. the ages ranged from three to 81 years and six were males. they all were bitten by dogs. the time between the accident and the hospital admission ranged from 20 to 120 days (mean 45 ± 34 days). the time until death ranged from one to nine days (mean 3.3 ± 5.5 days). the signs and symptoms presented were fever, hydrophobia, aerophobia, agitation, disorientation, dyspnea, sialorrhea, vomiting, oliguria, sore throat, pain and hypoesthesia in the site of the bite, headache, syncope, cough, hematemesis, mydriasis, hematuria, constipation, cervical pain and priapism. in three out of six patients, there was evidence of acute renal failure, defined as serum creatinine > 1.4 mg/dl. the post-mortem findings in the kidneys were mild to moderate glomerular congestion and mild to intense peritubular capillary congestion. acute tubular necrosis was seen in only two cases. this study shows some evidence of renal involvement in rabies. histopathologic findings are nonspecific, so hemodynamic instability, caused by autonomic dysfunction, hydrophobia and dehydration must be responsible for acute renal failure in rabies.
The Behavior of Zeta Potential of Silica Suspensions  [PDF]
José Antonio Alves Júnior, Jo?o Baptista Baldo
New Journal of Glass and Ceramics (NJGC) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/njgc.2014.42004
Abstract: Zeta potential is one of the most relevant parameters controlling the rheological behavior of ceramic suspensions. In this work, it was observed that for pH values below the isoelectric point (IEP), the positive value of zeta potential of water suspensions of α-quartz and α-cristobalite, experiences a sudden steep increase with the increase in specific surface area of the powders. For pH values above the IEP, the zeta potential values of crystalline forms of silica (α-quartz and α-cristobalite), get gradually more negative with the increase in pH. Conversely in the case of vitreous silica, for pH values above 6, there occurs a steep change towards more negative values of zeta potential than those presented by quartz and cristobalite. These findings have not yet been accounted for in the DLVO theory but may provide subsidies for better understanding of how to stabilize and destabilize crystalline and vitreous silica water suspensions.
Identifying and modeling patterns of tetrapod vertebrate mortality rates in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill
F. J. Antonio,R. S. Mendes,S. M. Thomaz
Quantitative Biology , 2011, DOI: 10.1016/j.aquatox.2011.05.022
Abstract: The accidental oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 has caused perceptible damage to marine and freshwater ecosystems. The large quantity of oil leaking at a constant rate and the long duration of the event caused an exponentially increasing mortality of vertebrates. Using data provided by NOAA and USFWS, we assessed the effects of this event on birds, sea turtles, and mammals. Mortality rates (measured as the number of carcasses recorded per day) were exponential for all three groups. Birds were the most affected group, as indicated by the steepest increase of mortality rates over time. For sea turtles and mammals, an exponential increase in mortality was observed after an initial delay. These exponential behaviors are consistent with a unified scenario for the mortality rate for tetrapod vertebrates. However, at least for mammals, pre-spill data seem to indicate that the growth in the mortality rate is not entirely a consequence of the spill.
Ferreira Júnior, Marcos Antonio;
Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672008000600012
Abstract: due to the increasing number of schools of professional training at the technical level in nursing, the teaching sector became a large of employment for the professionals graduating from the superior nursing courses, did not receive pedagogic formation in their initial formation. this study focused on a group of nurses, teachers from a school at the technical level, analyzing their initial training in order to practice teaching. it is a qualitative based study of a descriptive-explicative nature, with data collected by questionnaire and the information studied by analysis of the content. what can be concluded is the responsibility for the teaching qualification should not only be attributed to the initial formation, since practical experience allied to constant learning in work are reinforcers for this action.
Legitimidade e governabilidade na regula??o do sistema financeiro
Pereira Júnior, Ademir Antonio;
Revista Direito GV , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1808-24322008000200008
Abstract: the relation between law and economics might result in an opposition between governability and legal-rational legitimacy, since they are based in different rationalities. judicial review of financial regulation shows that coflict, which is here analysed from the viewpoint of the constitutional jurisprudence of the brazilian supreme court (supremo tribunal federal - stf). in brief, the purpose of this article is to identify the oppostion between governability and the need for legal-legitimacy in the cases analysed by the court concerning financial regulation. the case studies show that the judicial review by stf has rejected economic aspects of the case, however it has preserved governability rationality with incoherent and contradictory decisions based on formal arguments. thereby, it is possible to identify the institutional role granted by stf to the brazilian constitution dated from 1988, considering the context of economic crisis experimented by brazil in the 80's and the 40th amedment.
Frezzatti Júnior, Wilson Antonio;
Scientiae Studia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-31662011000400004
Abstract: the construction of the total opposition between the lamarckian and the darwinian evolutionary theories was employed to classify authors scientists or not _ who wrote about evolution in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. claire richter, in nietzsche et les theories biologiques contemporaines (1911), argues that nietzsche's lamarckism is very pronounced, and, for this, she distinguishes what is properly darwinian or lamarckian. in our article, we want to understand why this distinction was applied to a philosopher like nietzsche. the key issue is the difference made by richter between the natural selection and the inheritance of acquired characteristics and the relationship that she establishes between these notions and the eugenics. her goal is to show nietzsche to be an early and leading advocate of eugenics. her effort to demonstrate that nietzsche's thought is lamarckian serves for the dissemination of eugenicists ideas. the inheritance of acquired characteristics can support and justify the social and educational measures to improve the race, because it is faster than the natural selection to modify living beings.
