Abstract: birth records of 3032 piglets of the large white breed, born during the period between 1984 and 1987 were sent for analyses by the associa??o brasileira de criadores de suínos. the data used came from a commercial farm in the state of rio grande do sul, brazil. natal mortality and mortality of piglets up to 21 days of age were determined in different season condition during three years of analysis. the effect of season on there parameters was significative. the larger number of stillbirths was observed in the spring (0.50 piglets) and fall (0.47 piglets) seasons. the higher percentage of preweaning mortality was observed in the winter (1.96 piglets/offsping) and in the summer (1.79 piglets/offspring) seasons.

PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pntd.0001489
Abstract: St. Louis encephalitis virus is a complex zoonoses. In 2005, 47 laboratory-confirmed and probable clinical cases of SLEV infection were reported in Córdoba, Argentina. Although the causes of 2005 outbreak remain unknown, they might be related not only to virological factors, but also to ecological and environmental conditions. We hypothesized that one of the factors for SLE reemergence in Córdoba, Argentina, was the introduction of a new SLEV genotype (SLEV genotype III), with no previous activity in the area. In order to evaluate this hypothesis we carried out a molecular characterization of SLEV detections from mosquitoes collected between 2001 and 2004 in Córdoba city. A total of 315 mosquito pools (11,002 individuals) including 12 mosquitoes species were analyzed. Overall, 20 pools (8 mosquitoes species) were positive for SLEV. During this study, genotypes II, V and VII were detected. No mosquito pool infected with genotype III was detected before the 2005 outbreak. Genotype V was found every year and in the 8 sampled sites. Genotypes II and VII showed limited temporal and spatial activities. We cannot dismiss the association of genotype II and V as etiological agents during the outbreak. However, the silent circulation of other SLEV strains in Córdoba city before the 2005 outbreak suggests that the introduction of genotype III was an important factor associated to this event. Not mutually exclusive, other factors such as changes in avian hosts and mosquitoes vectors communities, driven by climatic and environmental modifications, should also be taken into consideration in further studies.
Detection of novel insect flavivirus sequences integrated in Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) in Northern Italy

Abstract: The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is a competent vector of more than 20 arboviruses, such as Dengue, and has been the principal vector of Chikungunya around the Indian Ocean, India and recently Italy [1]. Apart from Chikungunya, an outbreak of West Nile virus has been reported in Northern Italy [2,3]. Within the genus Flavivirus, some viruses belonging to the insect flavivirus group propagate only in mosquito cells and not in mammal cells. They may represent a basal lineage of the genus that diverged from other flaviviruses before the separation of the mosquito- and tick-borne groups [4]. Cell Fusing Agent virus (CFAV) isolated from Aedes aegypti and Kamiti River virus (KRV), isolated from Aedes macintoshi [5], were the first insect flaviviruses to be described. Culex flavivirus (CxFV) was isolated from Culex pipiens in Japan and Indonesia [6], and from Culex quinquefasciatus in Guatemala [7].Recently, a DNA sequence named Cell Silent Agent (CSA), related to the NS1-NS4A genes of CFAV and KRV, was identified in an uninfected Ae. albopictus C6/36 cell line and in wild and laboratory-bred mosquitoes from different areas of the world [8]. This mechanism for the capture of genomic information from a non-retroviral RNA virus is also described in other flaviviruses, such as Tick-Borne Encephalitis virus [9]. Several flaviviruses, phleboviruses and DNA sequences of insect flaviviruses have been recently described in mosquitoes and sand flies from Spain [10].Mosquitoes were collected by BG-traps (BioGents, Germany) at Arco and Riva del Garda, (Trento) and Padova, Italy, during August–October 2007. Each individual mosquito was identified and pooled according to species, sex, locality and date with a maximum of 50 adults per pool. A volume of 560 μl of AVL carrier/buffer RNA solution (Qiagen) was added to each pool before being conserved at -80°C. RNA was extracted with QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit (Qiagen). A combination of West Nile virus (strain Eg-101) and Ross Riv

Abstract: for several years chile has been making diverse efforts to improve the quality and equity of the educative system. there have been multiple innovations and reforms to reach greater academic achievements in students, all these focused on improving the initial teaching training program and also on stimulating students with better results to enter pedagogical careers. the studies endorse the importance of a good professor in order to obtain quality learning, and as well, teachers recognize the new and arduous labor demands. among the challenges teachers face, it stands out being able to grant appropriate educative answers to the diversity of pupils in the classroom in a society that declares itself in favor of the inclusion. in this context, this paper presents the main findings from an investigation made on fourth year students of different pedagogical specialties at umce, in relation to their own academic formation in subjects related to scholastic integration, disabilities, special aids, and their corresponding pedagogical approaches.
Solvable Lie algebras and maximal Abelian dimensions

ACTA MATHEMATICA UNIVERSITATIS COMENIANAE , 2008,
Abstract: . In this paper some results on the structure of finite-dimensional Lie algebras are obtained by means of the concept of maximal abelian dimension. More concretely, a sufficient condition is given for the solvability in finite-dimensional Lie algebras by using maximal abelian dimensions. Besides, a necessary condition for the nilpotency is also stated for such Lie algebras. Finally, the maximal abelian dimension is applied to characterize the n-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras with maximal abelian dimension equal to their codimension.

Starbursts and the production and dispersal of heavy elements
