Variabilidad y cambios climáticos. Impacto sobre algunas enfermedades infecciosas
Pérez Rodríguez,Antonio E;
Revista Habanera de Ciencias M??dicas , 2011,
Abstract: geographical distribution and seasonal behavior of infectious diseases are evidence of the relationship between variability and climate change and human health. the purpose of the present article is to provide basic information about the complex dynamics of climate and health. a review of literature was performed to explaining of the mechanisms of climate variability and change especially in relation to global warming. their effect and health impact upon some of the most important infectious diseases are illustrated, and may be probability increase of them. finally, the cuban experience from published articles is shown.

An Overview of Leptin and the Th1/Th2 Balance  [PDF]
Buenaventura Brito Díaz, Itahisa Marcelino Rodríguez, Delia Almeida González, María del Cristo Rodríguez Pérez, Antonio Cabrera de León
Open Journal of Immunology (OJI) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/oji.2014.42006
Abstract:

Adipocytes produce hormones and adipokines, among others leptin, with metabolic and inflammatory responses. The role of leptin involves different subsets of the immune system. Low levels of serum leptin concentrations are associated with bacterial infections and produce susceptibility to allergic diseases and type Th2 autoimmune diseases. High levels of leptin are associated with Th1 autoimmune diseases via inflammatory responses. Leptin resistance, that happens in obesity, is characterized by the presence of high levels of serum leptin itself accompanied by a clinical situation of a Th2 response. There is a relationship between obesity, leptin resistance, altered immunity and sex hormones. Serum leptin concentration (Th1 response) in women is higher than in men maybe to achieve the balance Th1/Th2 because of the high level of estrogenic hormones (Th2 response) in women.

Pubertad precoz central y hamartoma hipotalámico
Rodríguez Pérez,Juan Antonio; Richmond Padilla,Erick;
Rivera,Antulio Hoyos; Rodríguez,Antonio Pérez;
Revista Cubana de Salud Pública , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0864-34662010000100015
Abstract: dengue presently causes extensive epidemics in the americas and in other parts of the world, mainly in poor countries where there are certain conditions for its development, and also it is the cause of big economic and social damages. therefore, it is necessary to update this topic in a comprehensive way in terms of dengue distribution worldwide, the situation in the americas, its etiological agent and vector. the population growth, urbanization and deficiencies in environmental sanitation were analyzed since they are the main risk factors. the biological cycle of vector, the period of transmissibility, clinical picture and main complications were studied in depth. the aim was to contribute to better know the disease in order to reduce its incidence in the countries of this area. to this end, a literature review was made on the basis of published articles using yahoo, medline, google, searchers, by means of the key words dengue, viral genome, aedes aegyti, epidemiology, clinical aspects and reservoir.

Hoyos Rivera,Antulio; Pérez Rodríguez,Antonio;
Revista Cubana de Salud Pública , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0864-34662009000400015
Abstract: a study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge on dengue in san mateo, libertad municipality, anzoátegui, bolivarian republic of venezuela, from may to june, 2007. the universe was composed of 15 000 inhabitants and a sample of 535 that were selected by a simple randomized method. the children aged 5-17 that were included in the sample lived in the houses of the adults that were selected. the persons that did not want to take part in the study were used as an exclusion criterion. a survey of knowledge on dengue was done previous validation in another locality by means of a pilot study carried out in the studied sample. the questions were evaluated by points. the results were expressed in percentages and confidence intervals. a considerable number of patients proved to be deficient in the survey, which showed a great lack of knowledge on this disease. there is no information on the symptoms, mechanism of acquisition of the disease, its transmitter agent and, therefore, its prevention. most of the information on this topic is disseminated by radio.

Sistema de vigilancia de eventos adversos consecutivos a la vacunación en la República de Cuba
Galindo Sardi?a,Miguel ángel; Pérez Rodríguez,Antonio;
Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical , 1999,
Abstract: we briefly sets forth the design of a surveillance system of adverse events as a part of the vaccination program in cuba since it has had a world impact and thus, the real scope of such events can be known in the country. on the other hand, this system may be useful for cuban vaccine-producing industries to prove innocousness of their products after these being licensed. family physician and nurse program which covers 98 % of the cuban population will make the active-passive surveillance of all those persons who had been vaccinated in a territory possible. this surveillance system will be able to measure risks of adverse events by vaccine, age, number of doses, province and municipalities and by batch and manufacturer so that the causes leading to those events can be known. for this reason, it will contribute to improve the quality of services, protect the vaccination quality and upgrade the cuban surveillance system.
Resultados del Programa Nacional de Inmunización Antimeningocócica BC en menores de 1 a?o en Cuba
Pérez Rodríguez,Antonio; Dickinson Meneses,Félix;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 1998,
Abstract: the meningococcal disease (md) is currently an important health problem all around the world. the va-mengoc-bc vaccin has been used in cuba since 1991, in children under 1 year of age, through the national immunization program (nip), and its results were assessed in this study. a descriptive study was carried out on morbidity and mortality due to md, and in concordance with the vaccine backgrounds of 237 cases diagnosed between january 1st., 1991, and december 31st., 1996; the vaccine effectiveness was also estimated. among the most important results there is the md rate in this age group, which has decreased from 49,9 to 13/100 000 inhabitants, while the vaccine coverage has increased over the 95 % to reach a vaccine effectiveness over the 90 %. the major incidence at 3 months of age was displaced, with greater frequency in non-vaccinated patients. the general mortality was of 15,2 %. it was concluded that the use of va-mengoc-bc as a part of the nip, decreased the morbidity and mortality due to the meningococcal disease in children under 1 year of age.
