Real-Time Accumulative Computation Motion Detectors
Antonio Fernández-Caballero,María Teresa López,José Carlos Castillo,Saturnino Maldonado-Bascón
Sensors , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/s91210044
Abstract: The neurally inspired accumulative computation (AC) method and its application to motion detection have been introduced in the past years. This paper revisits the fact that many researchers have explored the relationship between neural networks and finite state machines. Indeed, finite state machines constitute the best characterized computational model, whereas artificial neural networks have become a very successful tool for modeling and problem solving. The article shows how to reach real-time performance after using a model described as a finite state machine. This paper introduces two steps towards that direction: (a) A simplification of the general AC method is performed by formally transforming it into a finite state machine. (b) A hardware implementation in FPGA of such a designed AC module, as well as an 8-AC motion detector, providing promising performance results. We also offer two case studies of the use of AC motion detectors in surveillance applications, namely infrared-based people segmentation and color-based people tracking, respectively.
Effects of luteectomy in early pregnancy on the maintenance of gestation and plasma progesterone concentrations in the viviparous temperate lizard Barisia imbricata imbricata

Abstract: Twenty-four lizards were subjected to three different treatments: luteectomy, sham luteectomy or non-surgical treatment, and blood samples were obtained before and after surgical treatment at different stages of gestation to determine the effects of luteectomy on the maintenance of gestation and progesterone concentrations.Spontaneous abortion was not observed in any of the females. However, luteectomy provoked abnormal parturition and a significant reduction in the number of young born alive. Parturition was normal in untreated females as well as those submitted to sham luteectomy. The surgical treatment also caused a significant reduction in progesterone concentrations in luteectomised females during early and middle gestation. However, no significant differences in hormone concentrations were observed among the three groups during late gestation or immediately post-parturition.Our observations indicate that the presence of the corpus luteum is not necesary for the maintenance of gestation, but that it does participate in parturition control. Moreover, the corpus luteum of the viviparous lizard B. i. imbricata produces progesterone, at least during the first half of pregnancy, and that an extra-ovarian source of progesterone must maintain gestation in the absence of luteal tissue. The corpus luteum (CL) is an ephemeral endocrine gland that is present in gravid vertebrate females [1]. Several authors agree that embryo retention in gravid reptiles is controlled by the activity of the CL through its capacity to produce progesterone (P4) [1]. In oviparous reptiles, there is a positive correlation between luteal function and the duration of egg retention [2], as luteal regression occurs just before (Pseudemys scripta [3]; Chelydra serpentina [4]; Sceloporus anneus [5]) or immediately after oviposition (Calotes versicolor [6]; Uromastick hardwicki [7]; Naja naja [8]). Furthermore, surgical removal of the luteal tissue can cause premature oviposition and a reduction in P4
Análisis de la exclusión social en la Unión Europea basado en indicadores sintéticos
Caballero Fernández, Rafael,Cruz Morato, Marco Antonio
Rect@ , 2011,

Abstract: adnexal torsion during pregnancy is a rare entity and usually occurs in the context of an increase in the mass of the annex. it is important to establish the diagnosis by ultrasound and in case of doubt we recommend the use of diagnostic laparoscopy for treatment as early as possible.

Adnexal torsion during pregnancy is a rare entity and usually occurs in the context of an increase in the mass of the annex. It is important to establish the diagnosis by ultrasound and in case of doubt we recommend the use of diagnostic laparoscopy for treatment as early as possible.

Abstract: the aim of present paper is to analyze the poor control of high blood pressure reported in many countries at world scale. the criteria followed to consider that a patient be hypertensive and under control were clarified and some papers related to a research on the high blood pressure prevalence and the control percentage in different populations were reviewed. author's experiences with the formalized care of refractory high blood pressure as expression of a inappropriate control of this affection designating the main situations or causes falling into the poor control of this disease by patient on the one hand and by physician by the other. we emphasize on the need that the health systems of the countries give priority to high blood pressure care with the involvement of patient and a greater preoccupation by the physicians and institutions to guarantee a better and more effective care to those cases with difficulties in the control of its affection.

Abstract: The theory of false alarm for laughter could explain the involuntary laugh when someone is tickled. To put this hypothesis to the test, we handed out a questionnaire (180 items) with two hundred university students. Our main results are: In women who like being tickled, we discover components related to pleasure, erotism, feeling of affection, arousal, uncontrollability, domination, sexism and Darwinian (golden ratio) and psychological traits (empathy, low schizotypy and external locus of control) that are not present in the laughter at a stumble. The relation of both types of laughter with sense of humor is also differential. In men who like being tickled, we discover components related to masturbation, sexual fantasies, erotism, arousal, domination, sexist humour and Darwinian (square chin, feeling of masculinity) and psychological traits (empathic stress, low schizotypy, external locus of control and overall self-esteem). The relationship between being tickled and self-esteem shows a double aspect in men: It is positive in men who like being tickled and negative in men who do not like being tickled. For women there is not a relationship between self-esteem and tickling. Our conclusion is that laughter of ticklishness is a Darwinian feature related to empathy.
