Abstract: the usual way that customers show their response to service quality attributes is when they use the service effectively. but those occasions alone do not cover all the cases of interest. one way to partially reduce this limitation is to collect and analyze the customers' preferences with the aid of a statistical experiment called stated preference surveying, or conjoint analysis. in order to do this, the attributes are combined such that their values cover a range of interest, representing realistic scenarios. these scenarios are usually presented in the form of cards (text, drawings), and the interviewed person is asked, after the introductory explanations, to rank them in a decreasing order of preference. a two-stage calibration technique is used to adjust a logit model, yielding the coefficients of a utility function. in santa catarina, a southern brazilian state, resort beaches receive lots of argentinean tourists in the summer. the official hotel classificatory system in brazil considers only physical attributes of the facilities (bedroom and reception characteristics, garage, etc). service factors such as comfort, attendance, accessibility, etc are not included. the paper describes a stated preference survey and customers' preference modeling with regard to hotel services in balneário camboriú.

Abstract: forest edges are permanently under pressure by natural factors and disturbances, such as fire, which can cause changes in plant communities. we studied nature and extension of damages and also the resilience of the plant community after fire in the seasonal semideciduous forest, at esta??o ecológica de caetetus, galia municipality, s?o paulo state, brazil. vegetation survey comprised five transects 50 m long (10 m wide) from the edge to the forest interior in the burnt forest, and the same area in the unburnt continuous forest, used for comparisons. every transect was divided in five 10 × 10 m plots. tree species were identified and measured from a minimum height of 1.7 meter. vegetation cover of every life form was assessed by line interception method in every plot. data were collected at six, 15 and 24 months after fire and separately analysed for the external strip (0-20 m from the edge) and internal strip (20-50 m). structural changes were larger at the external strip, where arboreal biomass was totally lost, while 11% remained in the internal strip. the difference in species number was high in the first evaluation after fire - 43 species less in the burnt forest, but decreased to only 14 species after 24 months, a demonstration of high resilience in terms of arboreal species richness. biomass recovery take longer at the external strip (11 years estimated) compared to the internal strip (five years).

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical profile of extracts (aqueous and ethanol) and the essential oil of Myrocarpus frondosus Allem?o, the sensitivity of strains of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium and Listéria monocytogenes, front the extracts and essential oil, by means of the microdilution method in broth, the antioxidant activity by the ABTS method, and the content of phenolic compounds present in the extracts and oil. For the preparation of extracts from plant leaves used with ethanol and water, then separated, the chemical identification of compounds was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (CLAE-DAD) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrum (CG/MS). With the chemical analysis of the extracts obtained the presence of the major compound rutin, and oil major compound was found germacrene B. In the microdilution method in broth, oil and extracts showed inhibition against all the bacteria tested in the concentrations 1 mg/ml to 0.25 mg/ml, except for Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 0.25 mg/ml of the essential oil

Abstract: images acquired at the same day by the etm+/landsat-7 (30 m of spatial resolution) and modis/terra (250 m) sensors were used to estimate areas of three major crops (soybean, sugarcane, and corn) with different landscape patterns in southeastern brazil. majority filtering of etm + classification results was applied to describe the behavior of 15 selected landscape metrics at distinct simulated spatial resolutions (90, 150, 210 and 270 m). by using regression models, the performance of modis and derived metrics to predict adequately the crop area, considering etm+ data as reference, were analyzed. results showed that the modis instrument overestimated the areas of soybean (15%) and sugarcane (1%), and underestimated the area of corn (12%). multiple regression results indicated that coarse spatial resolution sensors can be used to predict adequately the area viewed by the 30 m spatial resolution instruments only for crops with low fragmentation pattern such as soybean. these sensors cannot be used to predict the area of corn due to aggregation pixel effects of the less fragmented crops (soybean and sugarcane) over the most fragmented one (corn), as demonstrated by the spatial resolution simulation using majority filtering of the etm+ image. landscape metrics improved modis area estimates only for sugarcane, as indicated by higher values of r2 for multiple than for simple regression. only a small set of metrics was select to compose the multiple regression models because most of them were not preserved across different spatial resolutions (30 m and 250 m).
