A endoscopia digestiva alta mostrou pregas gástricas gigantes do fundo e corpo.
Abstract: cryptococcus neoformans is an encapsulated yeast, etiological agent of cryptococcosis. the species is commonly associated with pigeon droppings and plant materials. the aim of the present work was to verify the presence of the yeast in pigeon droppings, and to identify the isolates obtained in serotypes and mating types (mat). ten samples of pigeon droppings were collected in the rural area of the city of alfenas, brazil. samples were inoculated in agar niger medium for fungal isolation and 22 isolates with characteristics of c. neoformans were obtained. the serotypes and mat were determined by multiplex pcr using specific primers. serotypes were also determined by using the kit crypto check. among the 22 samples evaluated, eight were identified as c. neoformans by classic identification tests. these samples were characterized as serotype a by the kit crypto check and as serotype a mat a by the multiplex pcr. the present study reinforces the evidence that pigeon droppings are a reservoir for c. neoformans and confirms the prevalence of c. neoformans var. grubii (aa) among environmental isolates. it also demonstrates that multiplex pcr is an acceptable alternative for serotype analysis because it reduces the costs for each reaction and analyses serotype and mat simultaneously.
Os árabes nos antigos relatos portugueses do índico

Finisterra - Revista Portuguesa de Geografia , 2005,
Abstract: ARABS IN OLD PORTUGUESE ACCOUNTS OF THE INDIAN OCEAN. Arabo- Islamic expansion quickly spread throughout Asia, Africa and Europe and in certain circumstances led to the conversion to Islam of many people that were generically labelled Moors. The arrival of the Portuguese in the East called for a more specific way in which to refer to the population coming from Arabia or that which underwent the process of Arabisation: Arabs, Alarves, Arabians, Bedouins, Ma aris and even names of tribes like Ben Jebra [Ban Djabr].

Journal of Science and Technology of the Arts , 2009, DOI: 10.7559/citarj.v1i1.11
Abstract: We present two examples of technology transfer from analogical to digital systems, in two works of live electroacoustic music by the Portuguese composer Jorge Peixinho (1940-1995), Harmónicos (1967) and Sax-Blue (1982). These works require the use of analogue technology that has become obsolete or difficult to access by the average performer. We think that migration from electronics to software, also referred as recast represents a necessary step to preserve live electroacoustic music. However, this process can pose multiple questions as it also relies on aesthetic considerations. In this case, we put on a considerable effort into understanding both the composer's intentions and the equipment operating mode and we think the solutions proposed are adequate to perform both works. Finally, we discuss some of the questions, solutions and limitations that arose with these recasts and how they can contribute to the sustainability problem concerning these works.
Epigenetic (de)regulation of adult hippocampal neurogenesis: implications for depression

Abstract: Here, we outline some of the major epigenetic mechanisms contributing to the regulation of hippocampal neurogenesis and discuss several lines of evidence supporting their involvement on the development of imbalances in the neurogenic process, often correlated to behavioural and cognitive deficits commonly observed in major depressive disorder. The beauty of research is that it ultimately defeats all established dogmas, even though some take very long to fall. Cajal's decree concerning the immutability of the central nervous system (CNS) has been reviewed and updated during the last decades, due to mounting evidence that substantiates the regenerative potential and plasticity of the CNS. Despite the initial reluctance manifested towards the first reports of post-natal neurogenesis, it is now well established that neurogenesis, a process that comprises the generation, differentiation and integration of new neurons in the preexisting brain neuronal networks, occurs in the adult brain, prevailing throughout life in specific brain areas, where neurons are persistently generated [1,2]. Such spatially defined brain regions where neurogenesis occurs display a permissive microenvironment for the maintenance and differentiation of neural stem cells and to their proliferation. Currently, two neurogenic brain regions are broadly recognized in the mammalian adult brain: the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) and the subependymal zone (SEZ) in the lateral ventricles. In the hippocampal formation, the precursor cell population resides throughout the SGZ, with specific gradients [3]. After being generated in the SGZ, newly-born cells become committed to a neuronal lineage and migrate into the granule cell layer (GCL), where they mature to become excitatory glutamatergic granule neurons [4,5]. In the SEZ the precursor cells are mostly found in the anterior segment of the walls of the lateral ventricles. Here, newly-born precursor cells generate neuroblasts th

Revista de Ciências Agrárias , 2008,
Abstract: in portugal, emisia tabaci (genn.) (homoptera: aleyrodidae) was first recorded in 1992, in horticultural crops. since 1995, it has been an important pest in the algarve, southern portugal, where it is present the whole year round, in greenhouse crops, with high infestations during the summer. in 2006, it was installed in alentejo and in part of ribatejo e oeste region. it is a serious problem to several vegetable crops, due to direct damages, but mainly by transmitting plant viruses. the most severely affected crops are greenhouse tomato and cucurbits. ipm is considered the best way to deal with the sustainable management of this problem, but the presence of viruses complicates the implementation of ipm programs. the work presented here gives an overview of the results obtained by the research activities carried out in portugal concerning b. tabaci: geographical distribution, bioecology, biotypes identification, virus transmission, risk assessment, natural enemies? survey and control methods. future research work is suggested.
