Angiorama,Carlos Ignacio;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2006,
Abstract: in this paper, new evidence is presented concerning the circulation of minerals and metallic objects in the extreme northwest of argentina during the late pre-hispanic period. on the basis of this evidence we propose possible sources of the metalliferous minerals used for the manufacture of the metal objects found at the archaeological site of los amarillos (quebrada de humahuaca, jujuy). furthermore, we suggest the way in which minerals and metals might have arrived at this settlement.

Abstract: in this paper, we analyze the impact of the inca conquest in the production and trade of metal objects in los amarillos- one of the most complex settlements in the quebrada de humahuaca, a major metallurgy center in argentina. then, we compare the results of our research with the results obtained by archaeometallurgical researchers in other argentine locations, showing that the consequences of the inca conquest were not the same in all the metallurgy centers of that area. on the contrary, different strategies were used by the inca empire as regards the reorganization of the production and trade of metal objects in the different cases studied.

In this paper, new evidence is presented concerning the circulation of minerals and metallic objects in the extreme northwest of Argentina during the late pre-Hispanic period. On the basis of this evidence we propose possible sources of the metalliferous minerals used for the manufacture of the metal objects found at the archaeological site of Los Amarillos (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy). Abstract: this paper is based on a previous study (angiorama y taboada 2008) which was carried on in order to explain the existence and distribution of metal objects and valliserranas features in the province of santiago del estero. now we incorporate and analyse relevant information about textiles and ceramics. our research shows that some kind of relationship could have existed between tawantinsuyu and certain groups from the salado medio. we suggest that this connection would have adopted some kind of alliance between the empire and the local communities.

Abstract: in this work we consider that the co-residence is the first step to study the household and its activities. the space and the houses to live in become the subject of that social concept. the set of the various appliances found and recovered and how they are spatially distributed permit us to set up the first hypothesis about the organization of the activities of the group living together. in order to evaluate this model we analyse some superficial evidences of the prehispanic settlement los amarillos (quebrada de humahuaca, jujuy) identifying a repeated architectonic pattern. we select a household that could be one of the simplest of them and we start the excavation. as a result of this we recover a varied set of residues. then diversity of the materials found, seems to indicate the development of a great number of activities: carving and lithic reactivation, making of food, textile works and metallurgical practices. the arrangement of the findings shows a high level of segregation and space regulation, and permit us to propose some inferences and hypothesis.

Abstract: in this paper, we present the initial results of field studies conducted to identify evidence of mining and metallurgical activities in three areas of the puna of jujuy: 1) fundiciones and santo domingo, 2) the southern basin of pozuelos and 3) the valley of coyahuayma and the upper rosario river. these three areas all have deposits of ores that were used by the pre-hispanic societies of northwester argentina and were of great importance during colonial times. from recorded evidence assigned to pre-hispanic and colonial times, we can infer the role played by mining and metallurgical practices in the societies of the puna of jujuy in both periods and in different sectors.

Abstract: this paper contributes to the understanding of activities carried out at fundiciones 1, a mining-metallurgical complex located in the current department of rinconada, jujuy. this site would probably have been active during the final decades of seventeenth century, in a context of general mining production. this paper discusses archaeo-metric analyses on samples of smelting slag and vitrified clay, the contextual information of the findings, and the study of the furnaces present at the site in order to identify, above all, the kinds of metals produced in the complex, the smelting redox conditions, the firing temperatures, and the efficiency of the processes. this study is particularly relevant due to the absence of information about mining and metallurgical practises during the colonial period in the area. to date, there is little research focused on the material evidence left by these activities. moreover, travellers and metallurgists only wrote about colonial exploitation in the great mining centres with no reference to marginal areas such as the puna of jujuy.
