Mito e monarquia na Hispania visigótica católica
Andrade Filho,Ruy de O.;
Temas medievales , 2005,
Abstract: the author of this article discusses the ideas of the anthropomorphic metaphor and of monarchy during the early middle ages from the fourth to the eighth century. rather than a conclusive study of the subject under analysis, his approach is to examine contemporary sources in order to gain a new point of departure for the questions dealing with visigothic spain. he tries to establish the degree of influence exerted by these concepts in outlining local political power and as a support for the monarchy during those centuries.

Computational Analysis of Anastomotic Angles by Blood Flow Conditions in Side-to-End Radio-Cephalic Fistulae Used in Hemodialysis  [PDF]

Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering (JBiSE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jbise.2015.83013
Abstract: Chronic renal failure is a disease that affects a considerable population percentage that requires the hemodialysis procedure which is a blood filtration. This process is extremely stressful in many cases for the patient, because there is a continuous degradation of vessels and fistulae susceptible to this process due to the alterations of the stress at the blood vessel walls and flow patterns, leading to diseases such as intimal hyperplasia and consequent stenosis. Experimental in vivo researches in this area are very difficult to perform. In this sense computational models become interesting non invasive options to understand what happens to the blood in non viscometric geometries. In this work, we analyse blood flow, through computational modeling, in arteriovenous fistulae used in hemodialysis, using geometries with dimensions close to real ones. Discretization of the governing equations was made through a finite volume technique with the PISO—Pressure Implicit with Splitting of Operators—algorithm, using as a basis the OpenFOAM software platform. Large vessel Newtonian fluid model was used to analyze six possible anastomotic angles (20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45). To analyze the possibility of stenosis formation caused by hyperplasia, results for wall shear stress, oscillatory shear index (OSI), velocity and local circulation fields were obtained, showing that higher angles presented more secondary flows and larger extensions of stagnation regions near the critical areas of the junctions. Moreover, a range around 25was identified to be the most suitable choice for clinical applications, minimizing possibility of diseases.
Phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) of Alagoas state, northeast of Brazil
Andrade Filho, José D;Brazil, Reginaldo P;
Neotropical Entomology , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2009000500022
Abstract: the phlebotomine sandflies of the state of alagoas are poorly known, with more than 40 years since the last report on sandflies in the state. in here, psathyromyia brasiliensis (costa lima), micropygomyia quinquefer (dyar,) and evandromyia termitophila (martins, falc?o & silva) are registered for the first time in alagoas. this report increases to nine the number of species collected in the state, including lutzomyia longipalpis (lutz & neiva), migonemyia migonei (fran?a), nyssomyia whitmani (antunes & coutinho) and nyssomyia intermedia (lutz & neiva), all vectors of leishmania in brazil.

Potenciais benefícios do sistema de rastreabilidade animal dos EUA para o setor de carnes americano
Resende Filho, Moisés de Andrade;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032008000400009
Abstract: this article investigates the potential gains to the u.s. meat sector with the implantation of the u.s. national animal identification system (nais). the focus is on the effect that the nais could have on consumers' risk perception about eating meat. system of demand equations are estimated using time series of food safety indexes variables used as proxies for consumers' reactions to news on meat safety issues. the series of food safety indexes are built on the basis of the number of food safety news reported in top u.s. newspapers. using the preferred model estimates, three scenarios are constructed in order to account for the cases wherein the nais is not implemented, is implemented only for beef and is implemented for beef and pork. the differences in the estimated total revenues for each scenario are used as a gross measure of the nais benefit for each type of meat. the main conclusion is that the gains for the beef and pork sectors would be capable of covering the costs of the nais implementation. however, this result depends on how much of these potential gains will arrive at primary producers.
Um programa para o planejamento da recria de fêmeas oriundas de rebanhos leiteiros
Resende Filho, Moisés de Andrade;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032002000300006
Abstract: inadequate feeding and management when raising heifers are two factors that constrain dairy cattle productivity in brazil. in order to build their heads, brazilian dairy farmers must choose between three options: to raise their own heifers to breeding age, to purchase mature heifers from outside sources, or to employ a custom heifer raiser. if the dairy farmer chooses to raise his own heifers, he needs to determine the most economically rational production strategy. to aid the farmer in this determination, a mathematical model was developed to create a budget for raising a group of heifers to their recommended breeding weight. this model was embedded in a computer program making it possible to build different growth scenarios, which can be adjusted by breed, desired daily weight gain, and average weight for a given group of heifers. after contrasting the results of these generated scenarios against the purchase cost of breeding-age heifers or the cost to employ a professional to raise the heifers, it is more likely that the dairy farmer will make the most profitable decision when it comes to increasing his herd?s size. some examples this computer program?s use are presented and evaluated in this paper.
O discurso do profissional de ginástica em academia no Rio de Janeiro
Carlos Alberto de Andrade Coelho Filho
Movimento , 2000,
Abstract: This study belongs to the line of research on the Social Representation of the physical education' actors. It has for analysis object the meaning of the gymnastics professionals' speech in great academies in the City of Rio de Janeiro on its work process and about the representations that accompany it. The theoretical reference comes from the "analysis of the speech", of French background, of nterdiscipline motivation, based on Bakhtin, Foucault, Pêcheux and Maingueneau.
Communication Between the Mylohyoid and Lingual Nerves: Clinical Implications
Fazan,Valeria Paula Sassoli; Rodrigues Filho,Ornar Andrade; Matamata,Fernando;
International Journal of Morphology , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-95022007000300015
Abstract: the mylohyoid muscle plays an important role in chewing, swallowing, respiration and phonation, being the mylohyoid nerve also closely related to these important functions. it has been postulated that the mylohyoid nerve might have a role in the sensory innervation of the chin and the lower incisor teeth while the role of the mylohyoid nerve in the mandibular posterior tooth sensation is still a controversial issue. although variations in the course of the mylohyoid nerve in relation to the mandible are frequently found on the dissecting room, they have not been satisfactorily described in the anatomical or surgical literature. it is well known that variations on the branching pattern of the mandibular nerve frequently account for the failure to obtain adequate local anesthesia in routine oral and dental procedures and also for the unexpected injury to branches of the nerves during surgery. also, anatomical variations might be responsible for unexpected and unexplained symptoms after a certain surgical procedure. we describe the presence of a communicating branch between the mylohyoid and lingual nerves in an adult male cadaver, and discuss its clinical/surgical implications as well as its possible role on the sensory innervation of the tongue. the present study reinforces the idea of a communicating branch between the mylohyoid and lingual nerves, indicating that some of the sensory components of the mhn, instead of innervating the teeth or chin skin, might also innervate the tongue and surgeons might be aware of this variation for the correct interpretation of the unexpected findings after oral nerves injury
