Evaluating to intervene: an educational model for students with special needs
Luís de Miranda Correia,Andréa Tonini
Revista Educa??o Especial , 2012,
Abstract: As is well known, education is concerned with the change of an individual’s behaviors in order to provoke learning. However, many educators have difficulty in considering strategies that facilitate this change and, therefore, run the risk of witnessing the educational failure of some of their students. In the case of students with special needs (SN) it is imperative to consider a process that allows them to be exposed to an appropriate education which should take into account their characteristics, abilities and needs. With this end in mind, this article is intended to describe a model that makes it possible to reach effective interventions through a careful observation/evaluation of a student and of his learning environments. This model, called Modelo de Atendimento à Diversidade (MAD) has as its primary goal the promotion of quality educational practices, monitoring the progress of a student and, consequently, adjusting teaching to his answers according to his abilities and needs.

Revista Educa??o Especial , 2012, DOI: 10.5902/1984686x6534

Abstract: objective: to report the experience regarding patients with steroid 5a-reductase type 2 deficiency from three different clinical services in brazil. casuistic and methods: twenty five patients with clinical and hormonal features of 5a-reductase deficiency from 23 families (15 from bahia, 7 from s?o paulo and 1 from minas gerais) were included in this study. clinical, hormonal and molecular data were evaluated. the molecular analysis of the five exons of the srd5a2 gene was done by automatic or manual sequencing of pcr products. results: in ten families, srd5a2 mutations were found in homozygosis (5 with g183s, 2 with r246w, 1 with g196s, 1 with del642t, 1 with 217_218insc), in three in compound heterozygosis (1 with q126r/ivs3+1g>a, 1 with q126r/del418t, 1 with q126r/g158r) while other three were heterozygous, with only one deleterious mutation (1 with g196s, 1 with a207d, and 1 with r246w). in seven cases, no sequencing abnormalities were detected. the g183s substitution was the most frequently found among miscigenated patients (afro-euro-brazilians) from bahia. hormonal and clinical findings did not differ between patients with or without mutations, exception made to a higher frequency of consanguinity and greater severity of genital ambiguity in the first group. conclusion: our results reinforce the importance of molecular investigation for the diagnosis of this disease and point out to the finding of a very frequent mutation (g183s) in our series, especially in patients with mixed ethnic background from bahia, and the description of mutations that have only been reported in brazilian patients so far.
Ordinal Outcome Modeling: The Application of the Adaptive Moment Estimation Optimizer to the Elastic Net Penalized Stereotype Logit  [PDF]
André A. A. Williams
Journal of Data Analysis and Information Processing (JDAIP) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/jdaip.2019.71002
Abstract: Penalized ordinal outcome models were developed to model high dimensional data with ordinal outcomes. One option is the penalized stereotype logit, which includes nonlinear combinations of parameter estimates. Optimization algorithms assuming linearity and function convexity were applied to fit this model. In this study the application of the adaptive moment estimation (Adam) optimizer, suited for nonlinear optimization, to the elastic net penalized stereotype logit model is proposed. The proposed model is compared to the L1 penalized ordinalgmifs stereotype model. Both methods were applied to simulated and real data, with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) cancer subtypes as the outcome, with results presented and discussed.

Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS) & Discussions (NHESSD) , 2011,
Abstract: Eastern Sicily is one of the coastal areas most exposed to earthquakes and tsunamis in Italy. The city of Catania that developed between the eastern base of Etna volcano and the Ionian Sea is, together with the neighbour coastal belt, under the strong menace of tsunamis. This paper addresses the estimation of the tsunami hazard for the city of Catania by using the technique of the Worst-case Credible Tsunami Scenario Analysis (WCTSA) and is focused on a target area including the Catania harbour and the beach called La Plaia where many human activities develop and many important structures are present. The aim of the work is to provide a detailed tsunami hazard analysis, firstly by building scenarios that are proposed on the basis of tectonic considerations and of the largest historical events that hit the city in the past, and then by combining all the information deriving from single scenarios into a unique aggregated scenario that can be viewed as the worst virtual scenario. Scenarios have been calculated by means of numerical simulations on computational grids of different resolutions, passing from 3 km on a regional scale to 40 m in the target area. La Plaia beach results to be the area most exposed to tsunami inundation, with inland penetration up to hundreds of meters. The harbour turns out to be more exposed to tsunami waves with low frequencies: in particular, it is found that the major contribution to the hazard in the harbour is due to a tsunami from a remote source, which propagates with much longer periods than tsunamis from local sources. This work has been performed in the framework of the EU-funded project SCHEMA.
Políticas públicas e turismo: enoturismo no Vale dos Vinhedos/RS
Tonini, Hernanda
PASOS : Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural , 2008,
Abstract: The various types of tourism aim to consolidate the activity as a product, marketing leisure, culture, past and present targeted to what drives the tourist. Given that, this study aimed to analyze the role played by the government and by public policies designed to chart a course for a touristic tipology in growth: the wine tourism, trips motivated from the interest in the wine and the producer region. The qualitative field method was implemented through descriptive-exploratory research characterized by a case study in the Vale dos Vinhedos. A collection of basic data was compiled from interviews with local private sector representatives and Secretaries of Tourism in the Bento Gon alves, Monte Belo do Sul and Garibaldi municipalities, all located in this region. Among the findings, the Government participate in important points to build the route, however the lack of a policy specifically targeted to the wine tourism tends to compromise its development in the Vale dos Vinhedos.
The Jews in Poland after the Second World War. Most Recent Contributions of Polish Historiography
Carla Tonini
Quest : Issues in Contemporary Jewish History. , 2010,
Abstract: In recent years Polish historians have shown a growing interest in the history of the Jews in Poland after 1945. Studies on this topic had started – although in a sporadic way - in the 1960s, intensified in the 1980s and at the turn of the twenty first Century they have focused on three main issues: post-war anti-Semitism; emigration and the creation of the State of Israel, and the restitution of property. The aim of this article is to set these studies in the Polish political and cultural context in which they were written in order to highlight elements of change and continuity within the historical debate.
