Análise de componentes principais entre características morfogênicas e estruturais em capim-marandu sob lota??o contínua
Silva, Sila Carneiro da;Sbrissia, André Fischer;
Ciência Rural , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782010000300034
Abstract: the principal component analysis is a multivariate analysis technique that has not been frequently used in the interpretation of research data on forage plants. thus, the aim of this study was to use data already published and interpreted according to univariate analysis and verify if their hypotheses could also be validated through the principal component analysis. two principal components analysis were performed. for the first one, the following variables were considered: tiller population density, individual tillers mass, leaf area index, leaf area/tiller volume ratio and tiller appearance and survival rates. in the first analysis more than 80% of of the data set variation was explained by the first three main components, which, basically, showed patterns of tiller size / density compensation mechanisms and revealed discrepancies in the way of evaluating tiller shape (leaf : stem ratio or leaf area: volume ratio per tiller). in the second analysis, the first three principal components explained 91.4% of the total variation, which was related basically to the process of resources economy and seasonal allocation of assimilates for different plant structures as a mean of ensuring survival and persistence of plants. the results show the potential of using the principal component analysis in the interpretation of research data on forage plants and corroborates conclusions obtained using univariate methods, with the advantage of reducing the number of global variables
Compensa??o tamanho/densidade populacional de perfilhos em pastos de capim-marandu
Sbrissia, André Fischer;Silva, Sila Carneiro da;
Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982008000100005
Abstract: the objectives of this study were to evaluate the existence of a relationship between tiller size and tiller number in grazed palisadegrass swards and to verify if adjustments related to changing in leaf area index (lai), leaf area:tiller volume ratio (r), and tiller bulk density in the prediction equation of the response would explain eventual slope deviation from the theoretical predict slope. treatments corresponded to four sward "steady state" conditions (10, 20, 30, and 40 cm sward surface heights), maintained by cattle under continuous but variable stocking rate. the experimental design was a complete randomized block design with four replicates and the response-variables evaluated were tiller population density, mean tiller weight, and leaf area per tiller. sward leaf area index (lai), tiller leaf:stem ratio, and tiller leaf area:volume ratio (r) were calculated and simple regression analyses between tiller population density and tiller weight in a logarithm scale were performed. measurements were made from january to december 2002. swards showed a tiller size/density compensation mechanism characterized by high tiller population densities associated with small tillers and vice-versa. r-values showed a seasonal pattern of variation, suggesting that tillers of this grass species would be able to reduce leaf area in relation to its volume as a response to water deficit conditions. calculated regression coefficients were smaller than the theoretical expectation of -3/2 and such deviation was satisfactorily explained by the recorded variations in lai, r and tiller bulk density.
Compara??o de três métodos para estimativa do índice de área foliar em pastos de capim-marandu sob lota??o contínua

Abstract: the objective of this research was to compare three methods for estimating lai in marandu palisadegrass (brachiaria brizantha hochst. ex a. rich cv. marandu) swards subjected to four grazing heights (10, 20, 30 and 40 cm) under continuous stocking by beef cattle. evaluated methods were: (1) direct, destructive (laidm); (2) indirect, destructive, based on the use of tiller population density and mean leaf area per tiller (laitpd); and (3) indirect, non-destructive, based on the use of a lai-2000 canopy analyser equipment (lailicor). laidm was estimated on herbage samples harvested using four 0.30 × 0.37 m metallic frames per paddock. measurements were carried out in a monthly basis and results grouped into five seasons of the year: summer, autumn, winter, early and late spring. the experiment was carried out according to a complete randomised block design, with four replications and a split-plot arrangement, where sward heights were allocated to plots and lai estimation methods to sub-plots. the results showed that the canopy analyser overestimated lai values in relation to the other two methods. this overestimation is mainly due to the excessive accumulation of dead material at the base of swards, particularly on those kept taller (30 and 40 cm). the laidm was the method that better detected variations in sward height and seasons of the year, and the laitpd showed intermediate values, with a pattern of variation in absolute values similar to that obtained for the laidm. the canopy analyser should not be used when lai estimates are being generated for simulation and mathematical modelling purposes and to estimate the efficiency of incident radiation use.

Abstract:

Main Goals: Evaluation and comparison of short-term results of totally laparoscopic gastrectomy performed for gastric carcinoma in two groups of patients: older and younger than eighty years. Material and Methods: From 1st January 2011 to 31st October 2012, we have treated 110 patients for gastric carcinoma. 79 patients were submitted to radical gastric resection (the remainder 31 patients either presented with cardia carcinoma or were submitted to palliative treatment). In 33 cases we performed a laparoscopic gastrectomy while in the remainder 46 cases, the open approach was used. The 33 patients operated by a laparoscopic approach were the subject of this study. They were divided in two groups: Group A—patients eighty years old or older (10 cases) and Group B—patients younger than 80 years (23 cases). We evaluated and compared the short-term outcomes of both groups. Results: In all 33 cases, a gastrectomy was performed using a totally laparoscopic approach. There was no need to convert into open surgery. No patient needed to stay in the Intensive Care Unit. One patient needed a night stay in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit, due to subcutaneous emphysema (which resolved within 24 hours). There was a fatality in Group B, due to hepatic failure. The median of the operating time was 224 minutes in Group B and 199 minutes in Group A. The difference was non-significant (pvalue > 0.05). Group A patients were discharged in 6 to 10 days while those in Group B were discharged in 6 to 9 days.

Abstract: Introduction: Currently it is very common that the search for diagnosis and treatment for curing diseases can cause vertigo or dizziness. Objective: This study sought to characterize the profile of patients seen in the clinic for vestibular rehabilitation in a tertiary hospital in the last 10 years. Methods: Survey questionnaires of patients with dizziness. Results: The prevalence of treated subjects was female 65.3% (N = 439). The average age was 54.9 years old. Dizziness type roundabout was more prevalent 33.04% (N = 222). Tinnitus occurred in 58.33% of the population. The time of most observed dizziness was less than 5 years 70.68% (N = 475). Neurovegetative symptoms appeared in 63.98% (N = 430) of the population. The bilateral normal hearing was more standard 35.26% (N = 237). The topographic diagnosis of peripheral origin was the most usual 65.47% (N = 440). Conclusion: The peripheral otoneurologic involvement was more prevalent in this population, affecting more women at an average age of 54.9 years old. The most prevalent symptoms were vertigo, nausea, tachycardia, sweating, vomiting and tinnitus, characterizing the peripheral vestibular impairment. The time of dizziness was less than five years. Audiological standard normal curve was predominant and the symptom of tinnitus was the most reported. The most prevalent comorbidity was Hypertension.
