A enfermagem n?o é mais uma profiss?o submissa
Andrade, Andréia de Carvalho;
Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672007000100018
Abstract: it's an essay aiming to demystify nursing as a submissive profession. for doing so, a literature review on the profession history following its evolution up to the current practice was made. for some times, nursing and medicine went along in their historic development and nursing was featured in a dependence/ submission picture due to the lack of scientism in its practice. but a lot has changed and for a long time nursing has its practice based on the scientific knowledge, being the care delivery systematization the key of the scientism in the nursing care.
How logrolling can explain the failure of the government coalition in Brazil Como o logrolling pode explicar o fracasso da coaliz o governamental no Brasil
Márcio André de Carvalho
Revista de Administra??o Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/s0034-76122006000500006
Abstract: This article presents an analysis of the behavior of federal representatives in the Brazilian House of Representatives between 1995 and 1998, when a series of constitutional amendments were presented by the president to be voted on by Congress. The objective is to show that the lack of a stable government coalition resulted in costs to society that were not anticipated by the government. The study argues that a logroll - a trade of votes - was the strategy used by the government in order to guarantee the number of votes necessary to approve the amendments. This strategy created a vicious system in which representatives would only vote with the government if they had benefits in return.
QUADROS SEDUTORES NO CAMPO DO TURISMO E MíDIA: A CONSTRU O DA IDENTIDADE PARAIBANA PELA MíDIA TURíSTICA
Paper folding, Riemann surfaces, and convergence of pseudo-Anosov sequences
André de Carvalho,Toby Hall
Mathematics , 2010, DOI: 10.2140/gt.2012.16.1881
Abstract: A method is presented for constructing closed surfaces out of Euclidean polygons with infinitely many segment identifications along the boundary. The metric on the quotient is identified. A sufficient condition is presented which guarantees that the Euclidean structure on the polygons induces a unique conformal structure on the quotient surface, making it into a closed Riemann surface. In this case, a modulus of continuity for uniformizing coordinates is found which depends only on the geometry of the polygons and on the identifications. An application is presented in which a uniform modulus of continuity is obtained for a family of pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms, making it possible to prove that they converge to a Teichm\"uller mapping on the Riemann sphere.
Riemann surfaces out of paper
André de Carvalho,Toby Hall
Mathematics , 2011, DOI: 10.1112/plms/pdt020
Abstract: Let S be a surface obtained from a plane polygon by identifying infinitely many pairs of segments along its boundary. A condition is given under which the complex structure in the interior of the polygon extends uniquely across the quotient of its boundary to make S into a closed Riemann surface. When this condition holds, a modulus of continuity is obtained for a uniformizing map on S.
Monotone quotients of surface diffeomorphisms
André de Carvalho,Miguel Paternain
Mathematics , 2002,
Abstract: A homeomorphism of a compact metric space is {\em tight} provided every non-degenerate compact connected (not necessarily invariant) subset carries positive entropy. It is shown that every $C^{1+\alpha}$ diffeomorphism of a closed surface factors to a tight homeomorphism of a generalized cactoid (roughly, a surface with nodes) by a semi-conjugacy whose fibers carry zero entropy.
Decoration invariants for horseshoe braids
André de Carvalho,Toby Hall
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: The Decoration Conjecture describes the structure of the set of braid types of Smale's horseshoe map ordered by forcing, providing information about the order in which periodic orbits can appear when a horseshoe is created. A proof of this conjecture is given for the class of so-called lone decorations, and it is explained how to calculate associated braid conjugacy invariants which provide additional information about forcing for horseshoe braids.
Health Education for the Blind: Evaluation of Accessibility of an Inclusive Online Course  [PDF]
Aline Tomaz de Carvalho, Andréa Soares Rocha da Silva, Ana Fátima Carvalho Fenandes, Lorita Marlena Freitag Pagliuca
Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.516172
Abstract: This article provides a presentation of the method used to guarantee the accessibility and usability of an online course for blind women. The course discusses breast cancer with a focus on early detection, with a view to granting these women a new form of learning about breast cancer. In this paper, the evaluation of the accessibility of HTML pages was presented by the use of specific software. In addition, it presents the accessibility and usability for blind women in a course in a virtual learning environment. The accessibility evaluation using the software revealed 21 errors. When the blind women accessed the virtual learning environment, sporadic barriers were identified, such as difficulties for registering and using the forum. These were bypassed and the participants defined the access to the online course as satisfactory. This study aims to bring awareness to online education and health professionals about the accessibility of online courses. With regard to health promotion, the importance of this study is clear owing to the lack of educational resources in health for visually impaired people, in addition to the importance of the timeliness of the topic owing to the magnitude of the issue of breast cancer around the world.
A dor além dos confins do homem: aproxima??es preliminares ao debate entre Frances Power Cobbe e os darwinistas a respeito da vivissec??o na Inglaterra vitoriana (1863-1904)
Carvalho, André Luis de Lima;Waizbort, Ricardo;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702010000300002
Abstract: this article introduces a person who is little known and studied in the brazilian and south-american academic communities. frances power cobbe was a british woman in the victorial period engaged in various social causes, among them the abolition of vivisection. in her later years, cobbe criticized any use of live animals in laboratory experiments, with or without the use of anesthetics. our initial focus is on the relationship between cobbe and charles darwin and the conflict they both were involved in regarding the ethical legitimacy of using live animals in physiological experiments for the good (or not) of knowledge and mankind.
Innovation and Sustainability in the Supply Chain of a Cosmetics Company: a Case Study
Pereira de Carvalho,André; Barbieri,José Carlos;
Journal of technology management & innovation , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-27242012000200012
Abstract: the article analyses the induction process of technological innovations that consider economic, social and environmental concerns throughout the supply chain, in accordance with the proposals of sustainable development. specifically, it examines the role of focal companies as innovation inductors for their supply chains. the article presents a debate with regards to innovation, sustainability and supply chain management and analyses the concept of sustainable innovation, as well as management models that bridge the gap between these themes. a case study conducted with a cosmetics company of brazilian origin and presence in latin america, is presented. this case study demonstrates that sustainable innovation driven by the focal company requires the engagement of its suppliers in order to reduce the negative social and environmental impacts throughout the product’s life cycle. moreover, it illustrates that is possible to implement innovations that generate net social and environmental benefits for all members of the supply chain.
