Abstract Through two fables by Jorge Luí-s Borges, this paper discusses how fractal images and network are changing the conditions of experience and producing new forms of subjectivity. Image and network are figures that allow us to think communication field as a structural matter in contemporary culture. Keywords New technologies of communications, fractal images, communication networks, subjectivities.
Networks and Subjectivity in Contemporary French Philosophy - DOI: 10.3395/reciis.v1i1.35en

RECIIS : Electronic Journal of Communication, Information & Innovation in Health , 2007,
Abstract: This article presents three different perspectives on networks in contemporary French philosophy, in particular the thinking of Paul Virilio, Michel Foucault and Bruno Latour. What we call transformative networks, in line with Bruno Latour, are socio-technical mediations which are altering the conditions of the experience and producing new forms of subjectivity. Networks are empirical figures of the ontology of the present, figures which permit us to think about the field of communication as a contemporary structural problem.
Between cinema and contemporary art Entre cinema e arte contemporanea

Galáxia , 2009,
Abstract: Between cinema and contemporary art — How is the new media changing the original architectural, technological, and discursive dimensions of the "device" cinema? How do these experiments create new displacements or points of departure from the instituted representation model? The notion of "device" allows us to rethink cinema, avoiding cleavages and technological, historical and aesthetic determinisms. Unlike the dominant cinema, several cinematographic works reinvent the cinematographic "device", multiplying screens, exploiting other durations and intensities, transforming the projection room architecture, and entertaining other relations with spectators.
Carbon Capture and Storage and the UNFCCC: Recommendations to Address Trans-Boundary Issues  [PDF]
Viviane Romeiro, Virginia Parente
Low Carbon Economy (LCE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/lce.2012.323017
Abstract: This paper is mainly focused on the eligibility of trans-boundary Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activity and it aims to explore a broad range of CCS transboundary issues whereby the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and national governments could take into consideration. Much work is still to be done by the CCS community (including the Institute) to ensure that the implementation of CCS under the CDM is both environmentally effective and commercially attractive. The recommendations focus on technical issues, with the aim of helping Parties evaluate a robust strategy for CCS as part of international negotiations and establish CCS best practice criteria for governments and the international process, thereby enhancing transparency and ensuring that CCS deployment is safe and effective. When considering CDM projects activities with a transboundary component, it is recommend that the rules of the main international treaties related to CCS be considered by the UNFCCC, especially the London Protocol guidelines for risk assessment and management and the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. Additionally, national governments should apply the rules and guidelines as delineated under the relevant existing international treaties and CCS national regulations.

Abstract: the mark of birth of neuro-linguistics is considered the publication of the book the syndrome of phonetic disintegration, in 1939, that had as authors: a neurologist, a psychologist and a linguistics. ten years later the same team of french researchers published about, the disturbance of speech of the patient carrier of pure anartria. in the present article, we will place the historical polemics regarding a selective disturbance of speech of telencephalic origin and present the first described case, accompanied by the anatomic-pathological description of the brain that had been kept in formol by 20 years accomplished by one of us (arl). finally, we will present a brazilian case, with tomographic images of its brain and spectrographic evaluation of its speech and voice that confirm the pioneer work of alajouanine, pichot and durant.

Abstract: the cognitive mechanisms of the episodic memory allow a person to travel through time. these mechanisms that are related to the future compose the so-called prospective memory. the main objective of this work was to verify whether it is possible to dissociate neurocognitive mechanisms of the working memory from those of the prospective memory by using a case study with frontal lesion, presenting failures in time perception and memory disorders. based on the ellis model, the patient was tested using both a frontal lobe battery and an einstein and daniel's task. the results showed that the failures did not affect attentional resources required for the execution of complex actions, but decreased the self-driven mechanisms such as the notion of time, intentionality and decision making. following the model, the patient had specific failures in the activation of intentions and in the supervision process. these failures suggest that both the working memory and the prospective memory may have different neuropsychological attributes.

Abstract: text comprehension is a complex activity that requires resources from short term memory (stm) and from episodic memory (em). strategies directed to goals and intentions avoid an overload of the stm and activates the em. to study the influence of aging on those mechanisms, we analyzed the recall of a story by two different groups of adults: 17 subjects, 30 to 50 years old, and 14 with more than 60 years of age. the younger group remembered more propositions than the elders, but both groups recalled better the macro than the microstructure. no differences regarding number of inference, interference, and reconstruction were found. nevertheless, residual analysis showed that younger adults organized their recall telling the actions of the original story, whereas the older adults chose a subjective organization of the main facts, suggesting that due to a reduction of the working memory, the elderly elaborated strategies to have access to information of the em, showing their mental representations in their recall.

Estratégias direcionadas a objetivos e inten es particulares diminuem a sobrecarga da MCD e ativam a ME.
