Revista Uniandrade , 2010,
Abstract: O objetivo do presenteestudo foi verificar a incidência de les es na primeira fase (prepara ofísica) do Curso Básico Pára-quedista (C Bas Pqdt) do Exército Brasileiro 2008/01.Foram utilizadas as técnicas de coleta documental e observa o sistemátican oparticipante.

Abstract: The concept of quality of life is multiple concerns as a cultural, social and environmental individuality. The aim of this study was to verify the levels of quality of life in elderly practitioners of physical activity comparing a active group with a control group The sample consisted of 159 physically independent and apparently healthy individuals of either sex, with mean age of 66.61 ± 4.73 years. Active group obtained mean 14.32 ± 0.763 in whoqol’s scores for levels of quality of life, the Control group (CG) obtained mean 13.31 ± 0.94 and p-value 0.05. The ANOVA with repeated samples showed higher values for active group when compared with control group after intervention, the significant level was p < 0.05. It must be recognized that not every aspect of human life is reduced to the practice of physical activity; however, it is an important instrument that generates well-being in this age group.

Abstract: workers in sawmills are exposed to biomechanical risks due to the postures adopted during their activities. the purpose here was to assess postures adopted by these workers by using the rapid entire body assessment (reba), in order to detect and classify possible biomechanical risks. fifteen male workers from the production section of a sawmill in jo?o pessoa, pb (mean age 44±10.9 years old) were assessed as to the postures adopted at work. a semi-structured questionnaire collected demographic and environmental data as well as functions in the workplace. musculoskeletal symptoms were identified using corlett's body map. four postures were evaluated: anterior trunk flexion with weight lifting, deep crouching, anterior trunk flexion with lateral inclination and extended body to move a press. the reba method showed a very high risk level for the anterior trunk flexion; the other postures - deep crouching, anterior trunk flexion with lateral inclination, and extended body to move a press - were shown to bear a high risk level. accordingly, 73.3% of the workers complained of back pain or discomfort and 26.8% of pain in the shoulder area. considering the risk levels assessed, there is a need for ergonomic and preventive interventions in the workplace so that workers adopt postures that best suit their work activities with lesser risk to their health.

RSBO , 2010,
Abstract: Introduction and objective: This study aimed to demonstrate the possibility of treatment, through periapical curettage with the aid of ultrasound, consequently without the need of resection of root’s apical portion. Case report: The endodontic treatment of tooth #41 and retreatment of tooth #42 was performed. Following, the periapical lesion areas were submitted to parendodontic surgery. After a 2-year follow-up period, it could be verified a total lesion area regression and bone repair. Conclusion: The association of technology with clinical practice seemed to result in a faster, safer, and more conservative surgical treatment.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to identify and quantify benchmarks of milk production systems in the region of extremo sul da bahia. technological profile and indicators of size, livestock productivity and economy of nine farms were analyzed. it were also determined the correlation coefficients between these indicators and the rate of retun. indicators with significant correlation were regressed on rate of return in order to quantify the benchmarks with the following rates of return: 4, 6, 8 and 10% per year. data for the four rates of return were, respectively: daily milk yield (456, 538, 621 and 703 l/day); land productivity (733, 1.008, 1284 and 1559 l/ha/year); stocking rate (0.37, 0.45, 0.54 and 0.62 cows/ha); productivity per total of cows (3.01, 3.52, 4.03 and 4.54 l/cow/day); labor productivity (111, 124, 137 and 150 l/man/day); proportion of the total effective operational cost in the gross revenue (60, 57, 54 and 51%); proportion of the total operational cost in the gross revenue (72, 66, 60 and 54%); labor cost to milk gross revenue ratio (31, 27, 22 and 18%); and capital invested to daily milk production ratio (2093, 1508, 924 and 339 r$/l-day). identification of benchmarks, mainly those highly correlated with economic efficiency is an important tool for applying on farm management because help producers to better understand the economic viability of their dairy production systems.

Abstract: the productive and economic response of four feeding systems during the productive cycle of beef cattle raised and finished in tropical pastures was evaluated in this research. the data on supplement intake and performance of the animals were obtained from six experiments using 196 grazing animals. the evaluated supplementation strategies was based on the slaughter age of the animals (18, 24, 30, and 40 months), simulating a ideal system of production with area of 1.000 ha and annual average carrying capacity of 1 au/ha/year. the annual average weight of the slaughtered animals at 18, 24, 30 and 40 months of age was of 0.76, 0.48, 0.35, and 0.23 kg/animal/day, respectively, and provided the following of cycles of production numbers (120, 0.75, 0.55, and 0.38 cycles/year). the 40 mo slaughter age was the only supplementation strategy that showed negative gross margin, indicating short-term in sustainability in this system. the annual net margin was positive for the slaughter ages 18 (r$ 220,766, 39) and 30 months (r$ 80,395. 24) and negative for 24 months of slaughter age. the high intake of supplement and the concentration of this intake in a phase of worse feed conversion was the causes of the worse economic response obtained with the slaughter age of 24 months in relation to slaughter age of 18 and the 30 mo. the return taxes of the invested capital with land (trc), 5.48 (18 mo), -1.60 (24 mo), 1.16 (30 mo) and -1.67% a year (40 mo) indicated that only the slaughter age of 18 mo allows the carry on of the enterprise in a long run. the biggest productive response to this strategy, in reason of the lesser daily level of supplementation and of the supply concentrated of in a phase of bigger feed efficiency, explains the best economic results. however, the choice of the best supplementation strategy depends on favorable combinations of relative prices of the supplements and could be defined by the difference in the trc in relation to the absence of supplementation, es

Abstract: the goal of this work was to evaluate the effects of sulfur and simulated acid rain on the leaf of phaseolus vulgaris. acid rain (ph 3.0) and an aqueous solution (ph 6.0) were performed on test and control plants, respectively. a decrease in chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll concentrations was observed in the flowering stage (r6). however, increased rates were determined in the maturation stage (r7), which can suggest a resistance and/or adjustment of the plants to the acid simulation conditions. the acid treatment achieved chlorophyll degradation by oxidative processes without conversion to pheophytin. a reduction was also seen in the number of glandular and non-glandular trichomes and stomata on the test plants. moreover, only small injuries were verified on the blade and peciolar areas of the tested individuals of p. vulgaris, probably due to the presence of the reported epidermal structures.

Abstract: polychaetes are metameric worms recognized for having parapodia, chaetae, and nuchal organs. some authors have extended the annelida to include pogonophora, echiura, and clitellata. these suggestions are insufficient to generate a monophyletic group. they do not take into account two very large and important clades that in a cladistic analysis at a higher level are shown to be nested within the annelida: the ecdysozoa (arthropods and related taxa) and enterocoela (deuterostomes and related taxa). evolutionary histories of most characters across metazoan phyla are still very poorly known. metameres and coeloms have been considered homoplastic in the literature, and yet the homeobox genes responsible for the expression of metamerism and of paired appendages, at least, are very largely distributed among the metazoa. a phylogenetic analysis was performed for the ingroups of polychaeta, including clitellata, enterocoela, and ecdysozoa as terminal taxa. the remaining non-metameric phyla platyhelminthes, nemertea, mollusca, and sipuncula were included to root the tree within the bilateria. empirical data was obtained from the literature and run with the software hennig86 with two comparative interpretations of a priori hypotheses of primary homology: one with negative characters (coding losses) and another considering only positive characters (without assumptions about losses). the most relevant conclusions are: (1) annelida and polychaeta are non-monophyletic, even when including echiura, clitellata, and pogonophora; (2) articulata, as traditionally circumscribed for annelida and arthropoda, is also not monophyletic; (3) metameria becomes monophyletic only when ecdysozoa and enterocoela are included in addition to the traditional annelid taxa; (4) ecdysozoa are the sister group of aphrodita; (5) clitellata are related to deposit-feeding sedentary polychaetes (scolecids), and questidae represent their sister group; (6) owenia plus enterocoela form a monophyletic group rela

Abstract: samples of soil, water and sediment were collected and analyzed in order to evaluate chromium contamination due to deposition of tannery residues onto soils under different management regimes. the results showed that soils used for sugar cane cultivation were not adversely impacted. however, in the case of mango plantations, variable concentrations of chromium were measured in the soil profile, with 22.2% of values being higher than permitted legal limits, and 38.9% being at levels requiring remediation. concentrations of bioavailable chromium were lower than the detection limit of the method (0.01 mg of chromium kg-1 of soil), indicating that all of the chromium present in the samples was either complexed or in an insoluble form. chromium concentrations measured in samples of water and sediments were indicative of low mobility of the metal in soils. the main cause of differences found between soil samples obtained from different cultivations was the type of soil management.

BACKGROUND: Vitamin A participates in several essentials functions in the human body and their serum concentrations may be decreased in non-transmissible diseases. AIM: To assess the relationship of the nutritional status of Vitamin A through the serum concentrations of retinol and beta carotene, with regression of hepatic steatosis in individuals who undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery for treatment of class III obesity. METHODS: Were included 30 individuals, male and female, submitted to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for treatment of class III obesity, wh
