Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2015.52015
Abstract: The study aimed to look for available evidence in the literature regarding tools and methods used for determining nurse staffing levels. It is an integrative literature review whose data search was performed electronically between September and October 2013. The integrative review consisted of 13 articles that responded to the inclusion criteria proposed in the study. Several tools and methods were identified that determine staffing numbers, however, implementation of the calculated required workforce is not yet effective in the institutions surveyed.

Abstract: the aim of the research presented was to study parental concerns related to specific adverse life events, during transition to parenthood, in particular, differences between mothers and fathers concerning the occurrence, intensity and variation of these concerns over the period of time considered. to reach these aims, the concerns with life events questionnaire (cleq) was filled in by a sample of women and men (n=250) at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pregnancy trimesters, 15 days after delivery and at 3rd postpartum month. results showed that both mothers and fathers exhibit the same profile related to concerns and that economical area (familiar income) and the present pregnancy dominate parental concerns. both in women and men, concerns reveal identical stability over time, except for adverse life events concerning to family and interpersonal context and to the present pregnancy, which decrease over pregnancy and postpartum period. the different concerns revealed by mothers and fathers during transition to parenthood can have a differential impact in the usual increase of anxiety observed in this period. the temporal stability found in economic and social concerns can contribute to a type of cronic stress. concerns related to familiar and interpersonal situations and to the present pregnancy, in particular concerning to infant?s health and well-being, are more pontual and can be associated to the developmental tasks which caractherize this period. due to that they decrease with the adaptation to the parental role. we believe that the intervention of health professionals and researchers, with the purpose of promote parental adjustment during this demanding phase of their lives and decrease morbidity associated to transition to parenthood, should be focused in the major areas of parental concerns.

Figueiredo, Ana Elizabeth P. L.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842010005000068
Abstract: this article aims at describing nursing care with the intramuscular and intravenous administration of parenteral iron. the choice of the type of iron to be used depends on the tolerability of the patient. the intramuscular or intravenous administration of a medicine involves more than just the injection of a solution inside the muscle mass or vein, an evaluation of the best site for the injection must also be considered. this procedure must be carried out by a professional with knowledge on the basic aspects of administration, that is, the nursing team. it requires knowledge of the pharmacology of the drug type, mechanisms of action, excretion and performance in organic systems, as well as knowledge of the clinical evaluation of the patient's state of health.

Revista Latinoamericana de Psicopatologia Fundamental , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47142008000100008
Abstract: this article describes therapeutic residential services as essential practices for consolidating the psychiatric reform carried out in brazil and puts forward a clinical approach based on psychoanalysis. from this point of view, the psychoanalyst's main function is to provide caregivers with ways of dealing with patients in everyday situations, either at home or outside, without reproducing the patronizing attitude typical of mental institutions. the main proposals are to sustain a certain unknowing knowledge as a clinical strategy and the use of the patients' subjective resources as ways of managing the experience of living together.

Open Journal of Nephrology (OJNeph) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojneph.2014.44021
Introduction: Peritonitis continues to be the main complication for patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). Objective: To determine the frequency of peritonitis according to the disease-causing microorganism and its distribution throughout the year, linking to seasonality. Methods: A retrospective study conducted in the Dialysis Unit of the Hospital São Lucas, PUCRS (HSL-PUCRS). Patients undergoing PD between January 1984 and September 2013 were included. Descriptive statistics were used and Fisher’s exact test with Monte Carlo simulation for comparison between the categorical variables. Results: Of 415 evaluated patients, 66% had at least one episode of peritonitis with an incidence rate of 0.68 episode/year. There were 601 peritonitis episodes in total. The most common microorganism was coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (26.6%, n = 160), followed by Staphylococcus aureus (16.3%, n = 98), with 16.3% of the sample being negative culture. Most episodes occurred in the months of January (10.3%, n = 62) and May (10.1%, n = 61), while June had the lowest occurrence (5.2%, n = 31). The number of episodes observed in January and May were significantly higher when compared to June (p < 0.001). No significant differences were found for the remaining months. There was no association between the microorganisms and months of the year (p = 0.841). Conclusion: The rate of peritonitis is in line with that recommended by the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis. The distribution of peritonitis-causing germs over the months of the year would seem to be random.
