International Journal of Morphology , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-95022012000300062
Abstract: the aim was to study the peculiarities in apical morphology of the superior semicircular canal are studied at level of the arcuate eminence to obtain application conclusions. we have studied 48 heads from human cadavers (96 temporal bones), with the intention of identifying the presence of thinning or dehiscence in the superior semicircular canal, as well as the existence of vascular sulci of the arcuate eminence, which, traveling along the roof of the canal, may affect its anatomical integrity. the study includes a histological (martin's trichome method) and a radiological analysis (computerized tomography) of the findings (dehiscences and thinnings), and as well as tomographic study of the canals with visible vascular sulci. in one case (1.04 %) we have observed how the canal presented a complete bone defect (dehiscence), in three (3.12%), presented a very thin wall, which did not exceed 0.2 mm thick. in 12 cases (12.5%) sulci covered the arcuate eminence through which meningeal collateral vessels ran, which determined a concavity of between 0.1 and 0.2 mm, whilst the average thickness of this wall in these cases was 1.2 mm. of the peculiarities studied, the lack of bone coverage is what produces the dehiscence syndrome of the superior semicircular canal. the canals that had a reduced coverage may be predisposed to breakage and therefore cause pathology in them. on the other hand, the presence of vascular sulci that ran along the apical surface of the canal seems to have no consequences to decrease their thickness.

Abstract: from a perspective that proposes a number of criticisms of the dichotomous typology of demographic classification of living space, rural and urban, has inquired about the forms that everyday spatial mobility in relation to employment in the valle inferior del río chubut - patagonia-argentina, following a special situation of everyday spatial mobility as that concerning the production of cherries in the valley. were used statistics, historical and documentary in coordination with the construction of primary data through surveys run by different techniques. applied primarily a household survey (200 cases) suburbs of the towns involved in the valle inferior del río chubut. the center of the research exercise was in contrasting the results of a field survey according to both the traditional classification of the area of residence (rural or urban) and an alternative proposal for research. so we evaluated the hidden nuances within the homogenizing ideas of rural and urban, synthesized by the number of inhabitants observed, -in argentina to 2000 or more is considered an urban space, less a rural- especially, that many paths daily classically considered urban social actors were very close to those of the actors in rural areas.
ANTROPOLOGíAS DE LAS ANTROPOLOGíAS: BUSCANDO CIERTAS CONDICIONES PARA SU EMERGENCIA Y CONSOLIDACIóN
Díaz Crovetto,Gonzalo;
Antipoda. Revista de Antropología y Arqueología , 2011,
Abstract: over different time periods and under different circumstances, various forms of anthropology, rooted in their respective national frameworks in latin america and worldwide, have been raising questions related to their own games of identity and difference. such a task has been carried out collectively through already established debates at international meetings and seminars. it has also come into play through domestic reflections mainly induced by national seminars. taking this into consideration, it is interesting that we ask ourselves why we have chosen to do an anthropology of the anthropologies, or better still whether there are causes or aspects particular to our field of studies that encourage such reflections - and if so, which would they be.
Cambios en la disponibilidad de alimentos en el Gran Santiago por quintiles de ingreso: 1988-1997

Archivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición , 2008,
Abstract: changes in household food availability from 1988-1997 obtained in a representative sample of metropolitan santiago were assessed; and related to observed changes in the epidemiological profile. we evaluated expenditures in food and beverages from the iv and v household expenditure surveys conducted every 10 years by the national institute of statistics to calculate the consumer price index. food items were similarly grouped and expenditures from both surveys adjusted to concordance by assigning prices according to of food; the units consumed outside and at home were determined. food expenditures increased, leading to greater food availability in all households and income categories; the increment was largest in the poorest quintiles. apparent consumption of processed cereals, pastries and baked goods, poultry and pork, processed dairies, beverages and juices, dressings and mayonnaise, pre cooked meals and meals consumed ?out of home? increased. fish, vegetables and fruits increased slightly with a concomitant decrease in legumes. the present dietary pattern is also characterized by a greater availability of animal food products and processed foods; increased energy density, fat and saturated fat energy, sugars and high glycemic index foods; lower in phytochemicals, antioxidants, dietary fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. these changes are probably having a significant impact on the epidemiological and nutritional profile of the country; as manifested by an epidemic increase in obesity and chronic disease burden related to diet and physical inactivity.
CAMBIOS EN LA ESTRUCTURA ALIMENTARIA Y CONSUMO APARENTE DE NUTRIENTES DE LOS HOGARES DEL GRAN SANTIAGO 1988-1997
Crovetto M.,M. Mirta;
Revista chilena de nutrición , 2002, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-75182002000100004
Abstract: the comparative analysis of the food expenditure in a representative sample in gran santiago included in the iv and v household survey of budget expenses (1987-1988 and 1996-1997, respectively) shows an increase in food expenses in that period and changes in the food patterns for households in gran santiago, which are reflected in modifications in the structure of food expenses. these modifications include an increased consumption of food based on animal sources and processed products rich in saturated fat and sugars with a high increase of family expenses in out-of-home meals and beverages, home-delivered meals, softdrinks and juices, meat, pastry, ice cream and chocolates. a decrease in bread, cereals, starch, vegetables, fruits, legumes and seafood consumption is observed. an increase in food expenses is also reflected in a high apparent consumption of nutrients, highlighting fat variation, and demostrating that this food pattern has not improved the quality of food consumed in the population.
Evolución del gasto en alimentos procesados en la población del Gran Santiago en los últimos 20 a?os
Crovetto,Mirta; Uauy,Ricardo;
Revista médica de Chile , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0034-98872012000300004
Abstract: background: during recent decades household incomes have increased steadily, leading to changes in dietary habits and food expenditure. aim: to report changes in household food expenditure focusing on trends in processed food across income quintiles in metropolitan santiago. material and methods: information obtained from the fourth (1986-1987), fifth (1996-1997) and sixth national institute of statistics (ine) surveys (2006-2007) were used. food expenditure data over the study periods was extracted from household expenditure surveys (hes) after verifying and adjusting food prices registered by the ine to current 2007prices. results: absolute food expenditure over the study period increased for all groups; the largest increase was found in lowest income quintiles; however, the proportion of total family budget spent on food decreased in all groups. the largest increases in food expenditure corresponded to sweetened beverages, processed fruit juices, alcoholic drinks, ready meals and "eating out". expenditure on fish rose slightly whereas the absolute spending on legumes, eggs and oils decreased. expenditure in processed food as percentage of total food expenditure increased from 42% to 57% of total for mean household. for the 2nd quintile it rose from 31% to 48% and for the lowest quintile increased from 53% to 68% over the three decades (1987-2007). changes were greatest in energy rich processed foods such as bread, pastries, confectioneries and granulated sugar. these particular foods are of high energy density and contain high amounts of saturated fat, sodium and added sugars. conclusions: these results confirm that food consumption patterns over the past decades have progressively departed from the recommended dietary guidelines given by national and international health organizations.
Cambios en el consumo aparente de nutrientes en el Gran Santiago 1988-1997 en hogares según ingreso y su probable relación con patrón de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles
CROVETTO,MIRTA; UAUY,RICARDO;
Revista médica de Chile , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0034-98872010000900003
Abstract: background: the rise in the prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and cancer observed in chile over the past decades may be related to changes in dietary patterns of the population. aim: to report changes in household apparent food-nutrients consumption (hafnc) for metropolitan santiago-chile 1988-97. material and methods: the analysis is based on data from household expenditure surveys conducted by the instituto nacional de estadísticas (ine) on a representative sample of the population to define changes in food prices. information on food and drink purchases were grouped by specific items and expen-ditures standardized across the two surveys. hafnc was determined based on unit consumed at home and out of home by the total group and by income quintile using national food composition tables. results: apparent energy consumption increased over the study period by 25%, this was mainly explained by increased consumption of meat and dairy (rich in saturated fats of animal origin) and of processed foods (fat spreads, sweets and pastries) and foods rich in added sugars (sugary drinks and juices). dietary fiber derived from whole grains, legumes and cereals decreased. the hafnc of items protective against nutrition related chronic diseases, such as vegetables, fruits and other fiber rich foods remained stable or frankly decreased (legumes and non-starchy vegetables) fish and other marine foods rich in omega- 3 fats remained low. conclusions: the changes in apparent food consumption patterns can be characterized by an increase in energy dense, fat and sugar rich foods with a low consumption of fi sh, whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits.
CAMBIOS EN LA ESTRUCTURA ALIMENTARIA Y CONSUMO APARENTE DE NUTRIENTES DE LOS HOGARES DEL GRAN SANTIAGO 1988-1997 CHANGE IN FOOD STRUCTURE AND FOOD CONSUMPTION IN TWO HOUSEHOLD SURVEYS IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF SANTIAGO (1988- 1997)

The comparative analysis of the food expenditure in a representative sample in Gran Santiago included in the IV and V Household Survey of Budget Expenses (1987-1988 and 1996-1997, respectively) shows an increase in food expenses in that period and changes in the food patterns for households in Gran Santiago, which are reflected in modifications in the structure of food expenses.
