The dialysis dose affects survival of patients undergoing dialysis, as well as affecting the correction of anaemia, the nutritional state and the control of blood pressure, among others. Some authors have indicated the dialysis fluid flow rate as a determining factor in the dialysis dose for patients undergoing high-flow haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact on the dialysis efficacy of different flow rates of dialysis fluid in patients treated with on-line post-dilution haemodiafiltration and conventional haemodialysis, by measuring the final convective volume and rinse solution volume of small molecules using Kt. In all patients, 9 consecutive dialysis sessions were carried out varying the Qd: 3 sessions with Qd 500 ml/min, 3 sessions with Qd 800 ml/min and 2 sessions with autoflow. From the results obtained, Kt is shown to be significantly higher with Qd 800 ml/min (59.69 ± 6.07 litres) compared to Qd 500 ml/min (56.51 ± 6.33 litres, p<0.001) and autoflow (58.02 ± 4.89 l

The Influence of Gustatory and Olfactory Experiences on Responsiveness to Reward in the Honeybee

PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0013498
Abstract: Honeybees (Apis mellifera) exhibit an extraordinarily tuned division of labor that depends on age polyethism. This adjustment is generally associated with the fact that individuals of different ages display different response thresholds to given stimuli, which determine specific behaviors. For instance, the sucrose-response threshold (SRT) which largely depends on genetic factors may also be affected by the nectar sugar content. However, it remains unknown whether SRTs in workers of different ages and tasks can differ depending on gustatory and olfactory experiences.

We present the case of a mobility disabled person during puerperium as a consequence of a fémur fracture due to an idiopathic osteoporosis during pregnancy. Eleven months after delivery, the patient's evolution was favourable with a medical treatment using bisphosphonates and calcium.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between academic success and functional and dysfunctional families. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was used. A convenience sample of 200 children between 6 and 13 years old, primary and junior high school students was conducted (32.3% were female and 67.7% were male). To assess the relationship, a study case of 21 reagents was designed to empty the obtained information from medical review records from a psychopedagogic clinic. Academic success was measured as from the revision of informal tests and standardized tests. Results showed that the population levels of academic success were average. However, a significant relationship between the age of the parents and the level of academic success was found, indicating that these variables are associated with this problem. Besides that, it was found that there is a tendency in children with cognitive, emotional and sensory problems reflected in low academic success. The findings provide information that could be considered for the development of programs of psychopedagogic intervention to treat children with learning disabilities and low academic success.

Medwave , 2013,
Abstract: Introduction. Alcohol is the most consumed drug in the world. It is estimated that there are 40 million alcoholics in Latin America, who in addition to their condition, must also face impoverished health care systems. Cuba implemented an Alcoholism Control Program in primary care. Purpose. To identify the risk factors that are associated most frequently with alcoholism. Methods. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the Popular Council of Cuatro Vientos in Cumanayagua, Cuba. The Diagnostic Indicators Questionnaire and CAGE, the family perception test and a questionnaire that was validated for the study, were applied. The universe studied were 77 male patients older than 15, and who were registered alcoholics in the Popular Council of Cuatro Vientos. Results. Most alcoholics (58.25%) were 35 or older, 77.6% did not acknowledge their condition, 53.7% reported having a father with a drinking problem at home, and 58.6% of the families with an alcoholic member were disfunctional. Work-place problems were present in 46.3% of the cases and 47.8% referred not having any problems with law enforcement authorities. Conclusion. We found that most of the responders develop the condition after age 35. More than a third are not aware of the critical state of their morbidity and a similar percentage lives in disfunctional families. A large number of alcoholic patients have personal, social and/or judicial problems.
