The aim of this study was to test the relation between stress and inferential reasoning, sex and age. The instruments used in this assessment were the escala de vulnerabilidade a estressores no trabalho (EVET), and raciocínio inferencial (Rin). 64 students of Psychology and Engineering, who attended a private school on the interior of the state of S o Paulo, participated in the study, 81,2% men and 18,8% women, whose age varied from 18 to 45 years (M=24, SD=5,78). Related to the factors of EVET, it was found a significant and negative correlation between the factor three (lack of organizational support) and inferential reasoning. The results showed a significant and negative correlation between EVET and Rin (r =-0,25; p=0,047), considered as an evidence of validity for EVET. The tendering indicated that the higher the level of stress, the lesser the capacity related to the g factor.

Abstract: the aim of this article is to present the international classification of functioning, disability and health (icf), which comprises the "family" of classifications of the world health organization (who). this classification offers a unified and standardized language, as well as a conceptual framework for describing the health and the health related states, setting out a valuable instrument of practical use in public health. the model is established with two main parts: the first part includes the functioning and disability with two components: a) body structures and function and b) activities and participation. the second part includes the contextual factors with two components: c) environmental factors and d) personal factors. the components are classified by categories, organized in a hierarchical structure of four levels. in this paper we analyze the conceptual framework and the structure of the icf, and we also describe the action lines for its dissemination and implementation.

Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2014.46046

Background: Contraceptive methods (CM) are important resources in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy. This study aimed to investigate adolescent knowledge, attitudes and practices related to contraception. Study Design: A cross-sectional and exploratory study was conducted with 7th to 9th grade adolescents in northeastern Brazil. Their knowledge, attitudes, and contraceptive method use were analysed by gender, age and sexual initiation groups. Results: A sexual debut had been experienced by 21% (n = 120) of all respondents (n = 570). The majority of the respondents who had experienced a sexual debut were male (73.3%, n = 88), their mean age was 15 years (SD = 1.46), and 49.3% (n = 59) never used any CM. The participants displayed low knowledge and unfavourable and ambivalent attitudes concerning contraception. Conclusion: Adolescents initiate sexual intercourse with knowledge and attitudes that limit the use of CM, which makes them more at risk of pregnancy. Further research that will be representative of the specific population in need of interventions is necessary.

Abstract: poor school performance has historically constituted one of most frequent reasons for student referrals to applied psychology centers and, due to the complexity involved, has posed a challenge to academic development and practices in the field of educational and school psychology. faced with the need to improve customer service and the screening process, this study aimed to examine a total of 1,590 school records registering poor performance for the period of 1996-2009 among patients to the centre for applied psychology of the federal university of juiz de for a, minas gerais, brazil. results revealed a prevalence of boys aged between 9 and 13 and a predominance of referrals from schools located in the city's outskirts. poor school performance was found to often involve behavioural problems and learning difficulties. the data allowed us to make a critical analysis of poor school performance and other contextual factors, as well as the need for an improvement in the screening process.

Efeito de diferentes fontes de carboidrato e da priva??o de alimento sobre aspectos biológicos de Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera, Scelionidae)
Meirelles, Ana Paula;Carneiro, Tatiana Rodrigues;Fernandes, Odair Aparecido;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262009000300022
Abstract: the effect of five carbohidrate sources, water and no food (starvation) was evaluated on biological characteristics of t. remus. the treatments were the following: (a) non-fed females, and females fed with (b) distilled water; (c) honey; (d) glucose syrup (karo?); (e) glucose solution 1m; (f) fructose solution 1m; (g) sucrose solution 1m; (h) glucose+fructose+sucrose 1m; (i) glucose+fructose+sucrose 3m. spodoptera frugiperda egg masses with ca. 100 eggs (< 24h old) were offered to t. remus females. parasitism, sex ratio, and longevity were evaluated. in relation to parasitism, females fed on honey and glucose, fructose, and sucrose solutions were similarly more efficient whereas non-fed females and females fed only on water showed low levels of parasitism. females fed on glucose syrup (karo?) and glucose+fructose+sucrose 1m and 3m presented significantly lower parasitism than the other treaments. there was no significant difference in the sex ratio of the progeny. the sex ratio was ca. 0.57. on average, females were alive for 5 days when fed on any carbohidrate source, whereas females fed on only water and non fed-females lived only one day. therefore, honey, glucose, fructose, and sucrose were adequate food sources for t. remus females.
Oviposition by Schistosoma mansoni during in vitro cultivation
Barth, Leo Roberto;Fernandes, Ana Paula Morais;Rodrigues, Vanderlei;
Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46651996000600006
Abstract: observation of schistosoma mansoni oviposition during in vitro culture of adult worms for a maximum period of 10 days showed three well distinct phases in the kinetics of oviposition: an initial phase with low egg production, a period of maximum oviposition and finally a progressive reduction in the number of eggs during the late phases of culture. the kinetics of oviposition and the number of eggs laid by the parasites are influenced by the number of worm pairs per amount of rpmi 1640 medium, time of parasite development in the vertebrate host and type of serum utilized in the culture medium.
