Abstract: this article brings to the fore the issue of memory as social practice. it focuses on the many historically constituted ways of thinking and speaking about memory. it looks for the understanding of the collective modes of elaboration of memory, searching for signs or marks of this constitution at the level of the individual and inquiring about the discursive dimension and the status of language in this constitution.

Abstract: in the present paper we aim at bringing the issue of internalization/appropriation again into discussion, exploring possibilities and limits of such terms, departing from an analysis of the notions historically condensed and stabilized in such words, and commenting on the ways they merge in the cultural-historical perspective. we focus on some inherent contradictions which provoke theoretical difficulties and require conceptual refinement. we show how internalization/appropriation has usually implied the notions of accomplishment and adequacy in the incorporation of social practices, being inevitably positively oriented. we analyze how the (im)proper and the (im)pertinent - hence, the inappropriate - in such practices might be seen as locus of resistance, mobility and change, arguing for the need of considering appropriation as an essentially relational category.

Abstract: Introduction. Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi is one of the most serious public health problems in the Americas. Benznidazole is one of two drugs used to treat Chagas disease. However, the variation in susceptibility of the parasite to this drug is one of the main causes of treatment failure. Objective. To assess the in vitro susceptibility to benznidazole of Colombian strains of T. cruzi from different sources and geographical regions. Materials and methods. Thirty three Colombian T. cruzi strains isolated from humans, vectors and mammals were analyzed in vitro by the MTT enzymatic micromethod to determine the IC50 to benznidazole. Additionally, the correlation between in vitro susceptibility to this drug and different biological and eco-epidemiological parameters was also studied. Results. 36% of strains were considered to be sensitive, 48% partially resistant, and 16% were resistant. Different correlations between the IC50 and different biological and eco-epidemiological parameters showed differences in susceptibility depending on the biological source and geographical origin of the strain. Conclusions. A great variability exists in terms of susceptibility to benznidazole of T. cruzi strains in Colombia and the circulation of naturally resistant strains in the country is suggested.

Cadernos CEDES , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622004000200005
Abstract: this text presents an analytical comparative study of two journals published for teachers in elementary education. it focuses more specifically on two issues whose cover matter was violence, through three selected texts related to this problem. through these analyzes, it attempts to turn visible some conditions of production that characterize both the journals and the texts - the historical social context, the material support, the positions and images of interlocutors - and discusses how such conditions of production are constitutive of authorship as well as of the modes of thematic presentation.

Abstract: the inquiries leading us to write this text have their origin in some epistemological issues associated with the (inter)relation between knowledge and reality. while having an investigative approach, we discuss the construction of knowledge by focusing on two different theoretical suppositions. being a part of a line of study that is regarded as a philosophy of rupture, we describe the presuppositions of the french epistemologist gaston bachelard, a philosopher of science who stands out in the discussions about the epistemology of science. according to another field of investigation considered to be systemic and based on interactive approach, we lay out the main fundamentals of the work of lev vigotski, a russian researcher who focused his study on the psychology of human development. in this study, we discuss the approaches used by bachelard and vigotski to understand the construction of knowledge and the relations between everyday knowledge and scientific knowledge while seeking to analyze the implications from these different types of understanding for teaching.

Abstract: introduction: prosthetic heart valves are evaluated using different techniques that involve in vitro studies and computational methods in addition to conventional clinical studies. functional data to evaluate reflect the need for highly sensitive methods to determine its operating conditions that may emulate specific hemodynamic situations. with this objective, we designed an alternative method for better understanding the functionality of these models, analyzing in vitro fluid dynamic behavior of two models of mechanical heart valves using a wind tunnel. methods: we designed and developed a wind tunnel providing instrumental conditions that permit the evaluation of mechanical valves in different fluid dynamic conditions: subsonic tunnel of circular section (standard ansi/amca_210-99 and ansi/ashrae_51-99). using the method of dynamic similarity, the experiment was characterized using typical values of flow rates and blood properties in a healthy adult. results and discussion: we evaluated two sjm? valve models, one with flat leaflet, and a variant of convex valves with air flows equivalent to blood flow rates of 1.5, 6.0 and 9.3 l/min. the convex valve prosthesis has a flow divided in three equivalent fields, in contrast to the flat valves that have a smaller central flow and two predominant laterals. the drag phenomenon produced by the two external currents wit regard to the central generates a higher rns for the sjm? valve than the generated for the variant of convex valves. the velocity field adjacent to the convex side is less affected by turbulence than in the case of the flat leaflet, but on the contrary, the adjacent field to the concave side is more affected by local fluid dynamic effects: changes in direction, area reduction and increased velocity. conclusions: the implemented method uses fluid dynamic characteristics of air in a wind tunnel, for in vitro evaluation of the influence on the flow field and shear forces of different models of mechanical heart
