González Ramos,Ana M.;
Revista iberoamericana de ciencia tecnolog?-a y sociedad , 2009,
Abstract: the separation of science and technology indicators shows the gender gap. the incorporation of women depends not only on their preferences but also on the obstacles that endanger their access to jobs and the consolidation of their careers. the principal keys of this disparity are situated in the scientific career structure and in the invisible gender prejudices that remain hidden behind the experience acquired by women in making their own place in the professional world of science. thus, the training phase constitutes a vital moment in the permanence of women in scientific careers. the study focuses in the human resources policies that aim at providing grants to younger graduates. its rules are based in equity principles, but it is necessary to display that its implementation is fair as well, (that is, whether there are unbiased choices over the candidates from a gender perspective). the ratio of enrolled success in training programmes and the participation of women in a wide variety of fields of study shed light on a complex reality that opens new lines for analysis and reflexion.

The separation of science and technology indicators shows the gender gap. The incorporation of women depends not only on their preferences but also on the obstacles that endanger their access to jobs and the consolidation of their careers. FISSION IN THE ZOANTHARIA PALYTHOA CARIBAEORUM(Duchassaing and Michelotii, 1860) POPULATIONS: A LATITUDINAL COMPARISON
Acosta,Alberto; González Pontificia,Ana M.;
Boletín de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras - INVEMAR , 2007,
Abstract: there are few regional studies attempting to compare the asexual reproductive output of marine populations, particularly when they are exposed to different environmental conditions. in this study we compared caribbean and southwestern atlantic palythoa caribaeorum populations in terms of ramet production, the minimum colony size for fission, and the relationship between fission frequency and colony size. fission process was quantified in ponta recife and praia portinho, sao paulo, brazil, and in punta de betín, colombia, during the summer (december-january) of 1997 and 1998, respectively. fission started at small colony size in both populations studied (> 4 cm2). the number of ramets produced per colony increased with colony size in brazil and colombia. colombian zoanthids produced more ramets by fission than brazilian populations. the populations shared early reproduction characteristics, and production of large numbers of ramets, which increased with colony size, even though they differed in fission frequency. fission seems to be a conservative trait in p. caribaeorum, although its expression could vary depending on habitat conditions related to biotic and/or abiotic factors.

Coping Strategies and Self-Efficacy for Diabetes Management in Older Mexican Adults  [PDF]
Mónica Hattori-Hara, Ana Luisa González-Celis
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2013.46A1006
Abstract:

Diabetes Mellitus 2 (DM2) affects 20% of the elderly population in Mexico, causes disability and death, and demands many life-style changes. Since DM2 control is largely responsibility of the patient, management itself is source of stress. Coping is a process by which persons face stressful situations, and active coping have proved being effective in disease control. Social-cognitive perspective suggests that self-efficacy believes can regulate human functioning, therefore they could promote specific coping if relations between them are found. The study aim was to examine the association between coping strategies and self-efficacy in DM2 management in a group of 126 Mexican adults over 54 years old (= 68.57, SD = 7.19), which answered an interview about sociodemographics data, self-efficacy in diabetes and coping strategies. The most common kind of coping used by the sample was self-recreation (= 50.41, SD = 19.50) and religious faith (= 50.04, SD = 17.65), and in self-efficacy the domain of taking the medicines had the greater score (= 90.25, SD = 16.08). Total score in self-efficacy had significant correlations with active coping (r = .402,

Evaluación de la acción antiinflamatoria del producto FL-1
González-Quevedo Rodríguez,Mario; Larionova,María; Martínez González,Ana M.; Marrero González,Orlando;
Revista Cubana de Medicina Militar , 2003,
Abstract: it was evaluated the antiinflammatory action of the fl-1 herbal product (new c-glycosyl flavone) by using the model of leg edema induced by formaldehyde. 4 groups of wistar rats were studied: group i with a dose of 0.2 mg of fl-1 per kg of weight, group ii with a dose of 0.3 mg per kg of weight, group iii with a dose of 18 mg of neomelubrine per kg of weight, and group iv without treatment. the measurements to observe changes of volume of the legs were made at the beginning, at 24 and 48 hours. the statistical study was carried out by the test of kruskal-wallis (a: 0,05). there were significant differences in the measurements at 24 hours between the group i and iv. marked differences were also observed at 48 hours between groups i and iv; ii and iv; iii and iv. the results showed that the fl-1 product has an antiinflammatroy effect on the leg edema induced by formaldehyde.
