Relations between Urbanization and Industrialization in Hunedoara
Georgiana BOSIOC,Ana M. DRGOI
Journal of Settlements and Spatial Planning , 2012,
Abstract: Urbanization, as an effect of forced industrialization during socialism, characterizes industrial cities in Romania, most of them evolving through the industrial activities that gave a certain structure and function, which also determined an urban crisis as a result of the industry restructure, and redefining the role that industry have had in the national economy during transition. Hunedoara city, a mono-industrial city by excellence, evolved a little bit different from most of the country’s industrial cities, meaning that, when the urban systematization process began, this city had already a certain industrial tradition and a high urban development. Therefore, we can correlate the evolution of the industrial platform with the gradually urban growth. “The explosion” in Hunedoara, between 1956 and 1977, dictated the actual model of functional and spatial organization, during these times the population had a growth rate of 116.2%, and the built space expanded 60%. Even today, industry, through restructuring, dictates a new process for reorganization of the urban space, geo-demographical and social movement. This article analyses those processes determined by industry both in socialist systematization period and the restructure period after 1990.
Compensating the opportunity cost of forest functional zoning - two alternative options for the Romanian forest policy
Marian Drgoi
Annals of Forest Research , 2010,
Abstract: An important challenge of the environmental policy is conceivingappropriate economic instruments able to account for the positive externalities provided by forest ecosystems. This issue is extremely important for implementing the provisions of the Romanian Forest Act, which states that forest owners shall be compensated for the opportunity costs of giving up harvesting operations due to various conservation purposes. The paper presents a statistical method based on analytical assessment of the effective forgone revenues brought about by banning the harvesting operations in 96 cases, each case being a distinctive forest management plan conceived for a large forest area, i.e. a production unit. Doing so, the scale effect has been taken into account because all legal provisions referring to forest management planning systems are focused on production units, considered the basic reference elements for sustainable forest management. The multiple regression function produced by the statistical analysis was turned into a simple formula allowing for a straightforward set up of the average compensation worth being paid per year and hectare. In order to better fetch the real opportunity cost paid for each hectare of protected forest, the algorithmwas further improved in order to account for the differences in stumpage residual value. Actually, the average compensation is differentiated onto five categories of hauling distances, using the same algorithm used by the National Forest Administration for differentiating the average reservation price established at national level on the ground of full-cost method stumpage pricing system.
MANAGING HUMAN TALENT. WORKFORCE DIVERSITY VS. INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES. CHALLENGES OF THE WORKFORCE MOTIVATION AND RETENTION

Studia Universitatis Vasile Goldis Arad, Seria Stiinte Economice , 2011,
Abstract: Each day presents a new set of challenges and risks to companies operating in this age ofboth a global economy and of multiculturalism, i.e. a fast-changing marketplace. Globalcompetition and escalating economic pressures make the business environment bothdynamic and difficult, especially given the workforce diversity which has to be managed soas to achieve the highest levels of task performance and job satisfaction; managers must beprepared to respect alternative cultures and value diversity. Based on this background ourpaper has as starting point the consideration that organizations are seeking out methods torefine their operations in order to navigate often-difficult economic terrain effectively, analyzing the organizations’ ability to being responsive to changing market conditions, competitive threats, and new market opportunities, therefore focusing on an organization’screative and innovative ability, highlighting the people component of a business process, aswith so much emphasis on automation, it’s easy to overlook the human element, anoversight which – in most cases – hinders efficient business process management.Considering that processes don’t do work, but people do, our research highlights the factthat a “want to motivate” attitude by the employee can be encouraged, even if pastmanagerial efforts have rather concentrated on “how to motivate” the employee, trying toshed some light on how BPM with a hint of the Six Sigma method offers a clearer path toan increasing number of organizations hoping to best the challenges they have to face, thisoften translating into workforce motivation and retention, by creating positive workenvironments in which the cultural and demographic diversity of members helps to createcompetitive advantage.
A common assessment tool in inflammatory rheumatisms

Timisoara Physical Education and Rehabilitation Journal , 2010,
Abstract: Aims: Once the biologic therapies have been used, the present-day medicine trend is to homogenize the treatment of the inflammatory autoimmune rheumatic diseases, meaning rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). But, there is still the need to find out a common assessment instrument for this pathology. Methods:The study included 120 patients (40 patients with RA, 40 patients with AS, 20 patients with PsA and 20 patients with SLE). They were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the study period by using both DAS (Disease Activity Score) and HAQ (Health Assessment Questionnaire) scales. BASDAI (Bath AS Disease Activity Index) was used for AS patients and SLEDAI (SLE Disease Activity Index) for SLE patients. Results: The RA patients had significant improvements regarding both DAS and HAQ scores (DAS mean score was initially 4.49 and finally 3.75; HAQ mean score was initially 1.78 and finally 2.15; p<0.05). Important improvements were registered in AS patients (DAS mean score was initially 5.25 and finally 4.02; HAQ mean score was initially 2.24 and finally 2.57; BASDAI mean score was initially 4.28 and finally 3.21; p<0.05), in PsA patients (DAS mean score was initially 7.32 and finally 5.15; HAQ mean score was initially 2.1 and finally 2.51; p<0.05) and in SLE patients (DAS mean score was initially 4.4 and finally 3.45; HAQ mean score was initially 1.9 and finally 2.4; SLEDAI mean score was initially 24.7 and finally 12.5; p<0.05).Conclusions:Having in view that the DAS scale analyses complex aspects (clinical activity of the disease, its inflammatory lab evidence, patient’s general health status), as well as its good correlation to other specific disease scales, it can be used as a more widely assessment instrument in the autoimmune inflammatory rheumatisms.
Researches on the influence of the slags formed in the installations on the hydrogen removal efficiency

Revista de Metalurgia , 2011,
Abstract: Modern technology requires ever more high-quality steel and special steels, with properties corresponding to very different purposes. Because of the interdependence of the factors that determine the overall quality of the steel and those who determine the gas content, this is an issue of growing importance for the development, treatment and casting of steel. Slag plays an important part in the development phase no matter the process phase is. The influence of synthetic slags during LF treatment facility is examined based on the degree of removal of hydrogen. After processing the experimental data there has been established the optimal basicity variation on which one can determine the chemical composition of slag (CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO) for the secondary treatment of steel.

Abstract: objective: universal access to antiretroviral therapy starting from 1996 has changed hiv/aids epidemic profile in brazil. the objective of this study was to review the epidemiology of hiv/aids epidemic in brazil. methods: indicators of temporal trends were developed for brazilian regions from 1990 to 2003 using the ministry of health's databases. exponential regression models adjusted to the 1990-1996 trends were used to estimate expected values for the entire period. results: the proportion of aids hospitalizations has not changed over the study period but there was a decrease in hospitalizations among those using arv therapy. there was a 2.7 growth in those receiving highly active anti-retroviral therapy (haart) from 1997 to 2003. hiv/aids incidence and mortality rates rose up to 1995 in all regions. from 1996, there has been a gradual reduction in mortality rates while incidence rates have increased. in all regions, except in the northern region, expected incidence rates have been greater than the observed ones in the last years but these differences were statistically significant only in the southeastern and midwestern regions. conclusions: the observed trend can be explained by universal access to arv therapy in brazil, which had a significant impact on hiv/aids mortality. but other factors, such as years of epidemic, prevention actions, knowledge on hiv/aids, years of schooling, need to be considered as well.

Trends in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy , 2013,
Abstract: Determining the indications and contraindications for psychoanalytic treatment seems crucial to achieve therapeutic success and improve treatment effectiveness. In reviewing the classic literature on the topic, aspects such as age, diagnosis, motivation for treatment, present moment in life, ability to gain insight, psychic suffering when seeking treatment, defensive behaviors, and frustration tolerance are clearly analyzed by therapists/analysts when indicating psychoanalytic treatments. However, traditionally, most criteria underlying such indications date back to a time when the therapeutic relationship was viewed merely as a therapist treating a patient, with no regard to the therapeutic relationship itself. The goal of this article was to critically review the relevance and current adequacy of indications for psychoanalytic treatment, in view of advancements in knowledge on the analytic field. Considering cases that do not evolve as expected according to the indications, patients who are better suited to certain therapists, and therapist-patient pairs that modify their interaction over the course of treatment, the main question remains on how to identify the necessary elements in evaluating a candidate patient for psychoanalytic treatment, as well as the significant elements of therapeutic action.
