Materials , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/ma4112017
Abstract: The application of dense gases in particle formation processes has attracted great attention due to documented advantages over conventional technologies. In particular, the use of dense CO 2 in the process has been subject of many works and explored in a variety of different techniques. This article presents a review of the current available techniques in use in particle formation processes, focusing exclusively on those employing dense CO 2 as a solute, co-solute or co-solvent during the process, such as PGSS (Particles from gas-saturated solutions ?), CPF (Concentrated Powder Form ?), CPCSP (Continuous Powder Coating Spraying Process), CAN-BD (Carbon dioxide Assisted Nebulization with a Bubble Dryer ?), SEA (Supercritical Enhanced Atomization), SAA (Supercritical Fluid-Assisted Atomization), PGSS-Drying and DELOS (Depressurization of an Expanded Liquid Organic Solution). Special emphasis is given to modifications introduced in the different techniques, as well as the limitations that have been overcome.

RESULTADOS: Dos 25 doentes, 12 (48%) eram do sexo feminino. INTRODUCTION: Papillary balloon dilation with TTS-CRE balloon (through the scope-controlled radial expansion) in association with sphincterotomy (EST) has been used for removal of large bile duct stones. OBJECTIVES: We present the 12 month experience of our Department wherein we performed a EST followed by papillary balloon dilation for removal of bile duct stones. Efficacy, need for mechanical lithotripsy and occurrence of complications were evaluated. METHODS: Papillary balloon dilation preceded by EST was performed in 25 patients from October 2009 to September 2010. Patients included in the present study had bile duct stones with a diameter greater than or equal to 10mm detected on cholangiogram obtained during endoscopic retrograde cho-langiopancreatography (ERCP). We used TTS-CRE balloons with 12 to 20mm. RESULTS: Of the 25 patients, 12 (48%) were female. Average age was 73 years and 65% of patients had two or more stones. The average size of the stones was 15mm. Six patients had residual bile duct stones with prior EST. In 100% of cases complete removal of the bile duct stones was achieved in a single session. There was no need for mechanical lit

The ileum and the jejunum are the most common sites and gastric localization is rare, comprising about 4 % of all alimentary tract duplications. Most of them are diagnosed early in life. The authors report a case of gastric duplication cyst with ectopic pancreatic epithelium diagnosed in an adult submitted to surgery

Abstract: the recovery of high added-value products from waste plant material has been an important issue with economic relevance for the pharmaceutical and food industries. the recovery of antioxidants from wine industry by-products is of great importance in the nutraceutical field. the aim of this study was to identify the main flavonol glycosides, present in winemaking by-products from two white grape varieties: ?arinto? and ?moscatel? using liquid chromatography with diode array and electrochemical detection. liquid chromatography with electrospray and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization, in negative and positive modes, were also used to characterize the structures of the compounds detected by means of ms2and ms 3. in the by-products analysed quercetin-3-glucoside and quercetin-3-glucuronide were identified as well as kaempferol-3-glucoside. by-products from ?arinto? variety showed higher levels of quercetin glycosides and kaempferol-3-glucoside than the by-products of ?moscatel variety?.

Abstract: Protein-calorie malnutrition (PCM) is a prognostic factor increasing complications and mortality in chronic liver diseases. Objectives: To quantify the dietary intake and compare different methods of nutritional assessment in patients with chronic liver diseases. Ninety seven outpatients of Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, with chronic hepatits (CH) and cirrhosis (CIR), were assessed from April 2009 to January 2010. The CH patients presented higher calorie and protein intake (p<0.05) than the CIR patients. Malnutrition prevalence in CH and CIR groups by the Royal Free Hospital-Global Assessment (RFH) was 51.2 vs 84%, Hand Grip Strength 61 vs 82.1%, Subjective Global Assessment 14.6 vs 32.1%, Adductor Pollices Muscle 7.3 vs 14.3%, Arm Muscle Circumference 4.9 vs 14.3% and Body Mass Index2.4 vs 3.6% (p<0.05), respectively. HGS and RFH were the best methods to identify malnutrition and present concordance with each other.
