New Student Profiles: Creativity in Competent Digital Natives and Routine Experts
Aníbal de la Torre
Revista de Universidad y Sociedad del Conocimiento , 2009,
Abstract: Matters that until now were exclusive to pedagogic debate, such as teaching-learning models or the kinds of skills and abilities needed by the youth of today, have now entered a wider discussion arena, as it is society as a whole that expects professional and human profiles to be more adapted to current times. To achieve this, we should not assume that our youths possess some natural ability to act in the new technological environments, as it is probably their communicative needs that give rise to using these environments. Modest practical ideas and solid methodological referents are needed which will allow us to open up the limited world that is digitally evolving around our young people. The area of development they are about to enter has just started to shift towards globality and their responsibility as digitally-aware citizens is acquiring an importance still to be discovered but which we can no longer remain oblivious to.

No se presentaron complicaciones en los recien nacidos atribuibles a la cirugía The central nervous system malformations are the second more frequent malformation in new born. The election of the way of delivery is controversial. Our center has adopted the cesarean section to resolve such cases, using either a Pfannenstiel laparotomy or a longitudinal infraumbilical section. The observation of some difficulties in both techniques carried us to adapt, a oncoginecological technique, to the obstetric practice. We present 7 cases with central nervous malformations resolved satisfactorily using a Giordano-Cherney laparotomy. The surgery was carried out in elective form, with an average time of 72 minutes. No complications were registered intra or post surgery. The pain management was carried out in routine form. All patients evolved satisfactorily. No complications in new born where attributed to surgery

A Procedure for Diagnostically Modeling Extant Large-Scale Assessment Data: The Case of the Programme for International Student Assessment in Reading  [PDF]
Jinsong Chen, Jimmy de la Torre
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.518200
Abstract: Cognitive diagnosis models (CDMs) are psychometric models developed mainly to assess examinees’ specific strengths and weaknesses of a set of skills or attributes within a domain. Recently, several methodological developments have been added to the CDM literature, which include the development of general and reduced CDMs, various absolute and relative fit measures at both the test and item levels, and a general Q-matrix validation procedure. Building on these developments, this research proposes a systematic procedure to diagnostically model extant large-scale assessment data. The procedure can be divided into four phases: construction of initial attributes and Q-matrices, construction of final attributes and Q-matrix, evaluation of reduced CDMs, and crossvalidation of the selected model. Working with language experts, we use data from the PISA 2000 reading assessment to illustrate the procedure.

De La Torre,Carlos;
