Património e crédito: Misericórdia e Carmelitas de Aveiro (séculos XVII e XVIII)
Amorim,Inês;
Análise Social , 2006,
Abstract: credit, to our way of seeing things, is a way of managing and organizing property, despite the apparent contradictions surrounding the concept of interest/usury in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. this article looks at two major institutions in the city of aveiro, the importance of which went much further than the city itself, and describes credit relations and strategies by looking at the approaches of lenders and borrowers. the image which emerges is one of private credit operations which were not restricted to the state or the city, but extended to rural areas as a result of the opportunities created by those mortmain institutions.
Valor-trabalho e trabalho imaterial nas ciências sociais contemporaneas
Amorim, Henrique;
Caderno CRH , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-49792010000100012
Abstract: the theory of value was read until presently based on three broad analytical approaches. an approach before marx, another approach by marx and the marxists and the neoclassicist approach. the one before marx has as its central element the idea that value is a central category to societies with market or barter economy, that in capitalist societies would gain its most advanced expression in the process of wealth creation. in marx, value is considered as the fundamental market economic category. however, this type of economy is assessed as transient, ie, there is a historical determination of the market economy that is directly linked to the existence of value. as for the neoclassicists, value is a category of economic activity in general, therefore, capitalist economic activity being a particular form of economic activity in general. its main concern is, in these terms, directed to a general equilibrium supported by the marginalist analysis of value. however, the debate over value today seems to go beyond these classifications. its recovery is summarized in the following question: do theses on new information technologies and immaterial labor converge to a new form of labor theory of value or to overcome this theory? the main purpose of this paper is to introductorily characterize the main theses of debate in social theory, which incorporate, update or deny the labor theory of value in the process of analysis of immaterial labor.

Abstract: this article proposes a synthesis of mikhail bakhtin's dialogical theory and its consequences on the research in human sciences. the concepts of text's voices, polyphony and polyssemy are developed toward a critical reading of researches' texts and a new proposition for their writing. to complete and to give a new dimension to dialogical approach, the philosophy of jean-fran?ois lyotard and his conception of discoursive regime become necessary.

Prática política, qualifica??es profissionais e trabalho imaterial hoje
Amorim, Henrique;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782009000200013
Abstract: the development of productive forces is an important object of study for contemporary social theory. nonetheless, this relationship has been hitherto limited to consideration of technical elements of labor processes. technology, new knowledge, and administrative and production techniques have been indicated as central elements in the constitution of the "revolutionary consciousness" of the working class. today, in debates on non-material labor, the direct relationship between the cognitive content of labor and the development of a politically revolutionary "consciousness" as a causal nexus between the political unity of the working class emerges as a fundamental explanatory axis. in this article, i attempt to discuss the role of professional qualification in the composition of theses on non-material labor as a central productive force in capitalist societies. i will go on to critique these theses insofar as they argue that technical qualification informs the possibilities for revolutionary working class practice and political consciousness. i understand quite the opposite, that is, that capital today has reorganized the exploitation of labor according to its own interests. new forms of persuasion have been added on to the taylorist and fordist production techniques that disseminate ideas such as the one which poses the worker is a "partner" who should incorporate the "spirit" of the capitalist firm. workers' subjectivity, thus reconstructed, is in this way reconfigured and reclaimed by capital.

Amorim, Siloé;
Vibrant: Virtual Brazilian Anthropology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-43412012000200017

Centralidade e imaterialidade do trabalho: classes sociais e luta política
Amorim, Henrique;
Trabalho, Educa??o e Saúde , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1981-77462010000300002
Abstract: the sociological debates that arose in the 1970s and in the following decades, structured in response to the perceived crisis of marxism, are based on a common assumption, namely, the ineffectiveness of marxist theory and of its fundamental analytical categories to understand the heterogeneous reality of the contemporary societies. the diagnosis is simple: the social class, labor, and class struggle concepts could no longer stand up to the social dynamics of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. the main objective of this perspective, however, focuses not on finding the problem, rather on generalizing it to the entire marxist literature. if, on one hand, the criticism of the notions of social class, labor, and political struggle limited to the factory is fundamental, on the other, it cannot be regarded as a moment of overcoming the marxist theoretical problem. in this essay, i intend to clarify the starting point and the boundaries of the theories about the non-centrality of labor and about immaterial labor as a central productive force in which i will make a reading of social classes, labor, and of the political struggle unlike that which is criticized by the theses that make up these debates.
Code switching in student-student interaction; functions and reasons
Rita Amorim
Linguística : Revista de Estudos Linguísticos da Universidade do Porto , 2012,
Abstract: : Today’s students of English will communicate mostly with non-native speakers, in predominantly non-native speaking environments. English teachers know that if they are to realistically prepare students for international communication, they must focus on speaking activities that promote communicative competence and fluency. Presence of mother tongue in communicative exchanges is frequently detected by teachers in EFL classrooms. This study analyses student-student interaction during a group-work speaking activity, to uncover some of the reasons for code switching (CS). It also presents participants’ perspectives revealing mixed feelings towards this linguistic behaviour, which is sometimes intentional and sometimes unconscious. The aim of this paper is to illustrate how EFL students alternate between foreign language and native language to perform certain pragmatic functions and counter-balance for language deficiencies. It also considers the relationship between students’ language level and the functional character of their switches.
Recursos e infra-estruturas portuárias – gest o e funcionalidade de um porto : Aveiro (1756 – 1857)
Inês Amorim
Revista da Faculdade de Letras : Historia , 2008,
Abstract: Seaports are fundamental infrastructures for the development of commercial relations between the hinterland and the foreland, within the context of maritime economy. A possible way to establish this importance is to evaluate how the seaport policies (local, regional or central management and investments) were responsible for the trade of merchandise between land and sea routes and vice-versa. This issue may be all the more significant if we consider the case of the seaport of Aveiro, located on the Northwest coast of Portugal, subject to diverse localization proposals and finally built far from urban areas (town with a port, which is different from a town within a port). This leads us to reflect on the port management policies from the late 18th century to the early 19th century that could be considered suitable for its construction and consolidation
A reconstru o de um espa o histórico : o concelho de Cambra na 2a metade do século XVIII : fontes e metodologia
Inês Amorim
Revista da Faculdade de Letras : Historia , 2006,
Abstract: The territorial reconstruction of the municipality of Cambra will allow a contribution to the diachronic recognition of the organisation levels of its space, identifying the multiple jurisdictions that make the reconstitution of the municipal realities difficult. One seeks to, in a micro-historical analysis, utilise materials and apply methodologies that contribute to an evolutive view of the local space, designing them in a georeferenced way.
