Open Journal of Thoracic Surgery (OJTS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojts.2013.32008
Abstract:

Objective: To assess preoperative and postoperative spirometry values in patients undergoing lobectomy for sequelae of pulmonary tuberculosis. Method: A total of 20 patients (10 males) with history of treatment for tuberculosis and presenting with symptomatic sequelae (repeat infection or hemoptysis) who sought assistance at the chest surgery outpatient clinic between 11.09.07 and 04.02.10, were selected for the study. Only patients that met theeligibility criteria (symptomatic, submitted to tuberculosis treatment) were included in the study. The age of patients ranged from 15 to 56 years (mean: 35.75 years). The average treatment time for tuberculosis was 6 months and onset of symptoms occurred between 01 and 32 years after treatment. To assess the impact of surgery on the variables VC, FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEF and PEF preoperative values were compared with postoperative values at 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th month using the paired t test. The level of significance (α) applied for all tests was 5% where a value of p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: 11 patients were treated because of recurrent infections and 9 because of haemoptysis. The most common lobectomy was right upper lobectomy (7 patients), followed by left upper lobectomy (6 patients), left lower lobectomy (6 patients), and right middle lobectomy (1 patient). There were no postoperative complications. There was no postoperative mortality. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that, at the 12th postoperative month, spirometric parameters of patients with tuberculosis sequelae submitted to lobectomy had returned to preoperative levels.

BERGAMIN FILHO, ARMANDO;AMORIM, LILIAN;
Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582002000600001
Abstract: in botanical epidemiology, an incubation period of five days means that infections originating symptoms that can be visualized at time t have occurred at time t-5. since not all diseases follow this rule, their time of infection cannot be derived from the time of symptom appearance. these diseases are grouped according to the plant organ in which symptoms appear: (i) young flushes/shoots; (ii) young tillers; (iii) fully developed fruits. in all these subgroups symptom expression is a function of the phenological stage of the plant organ and has little relation to the time of infection. for these diseases, studies to determine the infection period should be emphasized, rather than the trivial monitoring of disease expression. examples are given for each subgroup and the monomolecular growth is proposed as the best model to describe the disease progress curve for the whole group.
BERGAMIN FILHO, ARMANDO;AMORIM, LILIAN;
Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582001000200001
Abstract: tropical and temperate pathosystems differ in structure and behavior. in this article, both pathosystems are characterized and the risk of origin and selection of fungicide resistance is discussed for both situations. the differential characteristics found relevant were: survival i (between crop seasons); survival ii (between cycles of the pathogen); apparent infection rate; ingress and/or survival of resistant mutants; clockwise manner of infection; persistence of resistant mutants; fitness of resistant mutants. it is concluded that the tropical pathosystem does not have a higher risk of selecting resistant mutants. however, in some cases, a higher number of resistant mutants can be originated in tropical pathosystems.

Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2001,
Abstract: O patossistema tropical difere do patossistema temperado tanto em estrutura quanto em comportamento.
Amorim Filho, Hermínio da Cunha;Amorim, Camila Camargos Bizzotto;
Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1983-51752012000200022
Abstract: background: abdominoplasty aims to reduce saggy skin and excessive skin and adipose tissue, as well as to improve curves, the shape of the waist, and the volume of the abdomen. in order to enhance aesthetic results, additional operative techniques such as liposuction are associated with abdominoplasty. this study aims to demonstrate the surgical technique of lipoabdominoplasty used by the senior author during a period of 5 years, and evaluate the results and complications in patients with indication for classic abdominoplasty. methods: we performed a retrospective study using medical records from a group of 162 patients who underwent lipoabdominoplasty associated with other procedures or not, from may 2006 to may 2011. the age of the patients ranged from 33 to 62 years. results: in all cases, we achieved significant reduction of skin and adipose tissue, together with a decrease in amount of saggy skin and improvement in body shape. the incidence of postoperative complications such as necrosis, irregularities in the infraumbilical adipose tissue, seromas, hematomas, epidermolysis, and dehiscence in this study was low, similar to the literature findings. conclusions: lipoabdominoplasty is a safe procedure, and has low complication rates when the safety criteria that permit a well-vascularized flap with preservation of the perforant arteries are followed. association of lipoabdominoplasty with liposuction in the abdominal area and body shaping is considered safe and essential when seeking better body harmonization and aesthetic results, which results in improved patient satisfaction.

Abstract: Accounting in Brazil has experienced changes in legislation, resulting in several changes in the set of financial statements. The objective of this research was to identify the domain of students of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the state of Bahia before the changes caused in the financial statements following the recent Accounting legislation. The methodology adopted in this study was exploratory with a quantitative approach, in which a questionnaire was used as a research tool, composed of 16 statements that addressed the changes in the financial statements on the current Accounting nature legislation. Assertion addressed the major changes in the financial statements. Students participated in the survey of 62 campuses of Bahia IES. 212 responses that did not tend to normality using a Descriptive Statistics with chi-square test were analyzed. Finally, we applied the t-Student Hypothesis Test. The research concluded that the students of Bahian HEIs did not have domain about the changes in the financial statements by Law No. 11,638 (Brazil, 2007) and 11,941 (Brazil, 2009). Therefore, it is believed that this study contributes to awaken Bahian HEIs that have the Accounting course, to assess the need to adopt measures to change the reality reached, the negative performance of their students.
