Abstract: this study was carried out with the objective to evaluate the substitution of the corn for cassava meal in broilers diets in the growing and finishing phases. a completely randomized design, with six treatments representing cassava meal (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25%) in replacing corn, six replicates and 25 broilers per replicate, was used. at the end of each phase, were analyzed feed intake (fi), weight gain (wg) and feed conversion (fc). the analysis of the data shown quadratic effect for growing and final phases. according to the statistical analysis the adequate cassava meal levels for each phase was determined. it was conclude that, in the growing phase, the broiler shown that up to 10.24% of corn should be replace by cassava meal , without affect the broilers performance, therefore for the final phase, any substitution level of cassava meal should be recommended due to reduction on the performance with the use of this manioc by-product.

No cv.

Abstract: the effect of electrolyte balance (eb) in diets with different levels of electrolytes for growing swine under high environmental temperature was evaluated. two hundred castrated pigs with initial weight of 25.3±1.3 kg and final weight of 68.8±3.4 kg were allotted in a completely randomized experimental design with five treatments and four replicates with 10 pigs per experimental unit, for the growing phase t1 (control) diet without electrolyte 191 meq/kg; t2 (nahco3) diet supplemented with sodium bicarbonate (nahco3) 250 meq/kg; t3 (nahco3+kcl) diet supplemented with (nahco3) and potassium chloride (kcl) 250 meq/kg; t4 (nahco3) diet supplemented with (nahco3) 300 meq/kg; t5 (nahco3+kcl) diet supplemented with nahco3 and (kcl) 300 meq/kg. the performance parameters evaluated were: feed intake, daily gain, nitrogen intake, lysine intake, efficiency of nitrogen use for weight gain, efficiency of lysine use for weight gain and the gain-to-feed ratio and the physiological parameters, respiratory frequency and rectal temperature. blood was colleted to measure serum concentration of na, cl and k. the average temperature was 29.65±3.80o c with relative humidity of 69.6±10.4%, black globe temperature of 31.95±1.98o c and temperature index calculated of 80.51±2.44. the levels of eb decreased (p<0.05) the feed intake and improved nitrogen intake. the other performance parameters evaluated were not influenced by the treatment (p>0.05). the correction of eb did not influence the growth of the swine.

Abstract: the effects of full-fat extruded soybean at different temperatures (fes) on performance of broiler chickens were evaluated in this trial. isonutritive diets were formulated to meet broiler requirements in the growing (22 - 35 days old) and finishing (36 - 45 days old) phases. the experimental treatments consisted of four soybean extrusion temperatures (125, 130, 135 and 140oc) with nine replicates of 30 birds. the variables investigated were: feed intake, weight gain, feed:gain ratio and carcass composition (leg yield, breast meat yield and abdominal fat). in both phases, no significant effect of the treatments on the variables was detected. soybean extruded at temperature of 125 to 140oc can be used in broiler chickens diets after 22 days old.

Abstract: three cultivars of panicum maximum jacq. under rotational grazing were evaluated for one year, before and after grazing, when measurements were made of the availability of total dry matter, height, residual dry matter, forage density, leaf dry matter, participation of leaves, stems and dead material, and ratios of leaf:stem and leaf:dead plant material. the treatments were 1) v. tanzania + 50 kg n/ha, 2) v. tanzania + 100 kg n/ha, 3) v. momba?a + 50 kg n/ha, and 4) v. massai + 50 kg n/ha. the momba?a cultivar presented the poorest results, lowest production of leaves and the highest proportion of stems. however, the cv. massai deservers attention for characteristics such as higher density of dm and higher leaf lamina:stem ratio; however, it presented a lower ratio of leaves:dead material. there were no significant differences in percentage of leaves among the cultivars. in the cv. tanzania, nitrogen fertilization at the end of the rainy period had beneficial effects only in march when there was an increase in the leaf:stem and leaf:dead plant material ratios. the residual dry matter correlated positively with the height of the forage. the animals grazed 41% of the height of the pasture in the dry period, and 47% in the rainy period.

Abstract: two experiments were conducted with the objective of evaluating the methionine + cystine (met + cis) requirements, for ross broilers, males, from 22 to 42 and 43 to 49 days old. nine hundred broilers averaging initial body weight of 0.800 kg at 22 days old and 2.540 kg at 43 days old were used in each experiment and allotted to a completely randomized experimental design, with six treatments, six replicates and 25 birds for experimental unit. the treatments consisted of six different sinthetic methionine levels (0.00, 0.04, 0.081, 0.121, 0.162 and 0.202%), corresponding to the levels of 0.664, 0.704, 0.744, 0.784, 0.824 and 0.864% and 0.603, 0.643, 0.683, 0.723, 0.763 and 0.803% dietary total methionine + cystine, for the phases from 22 to 42 and from 43 to 49 days old, respectively. feed intake, body weight gain, feed:gain ratio, carcass yield and the prime cuts yield were evaluated. the methionine + cystine requirements were estimated by regression models. considering the performance data, the nutritional requirements of total methionine + cystine were 0.823% for high performance and breast yield values, in the period from 22 to 42 days old, and 0.727% for the high performance and low requirements of abdominal fat, in the period from 43 to 49 days old.
