Anti-ulcerogenic effect of ginger (rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe) on cystemine induced duodenal ulcer in rats

Abstract: Ginger (rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is a widespread herbal medicine mainly used for the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders including: dyspepsia, nausea and diarrhea. Aromatic, spasmolytic, carminative and absorbent properties of ginger suggest that it has direct effects on the GI tract and anti-ulcerogenic potential. In the present study, the effects of this herbal remedy on an acute model of experimental duodenal ulcer induced by cysteamine was evaluated. Hydroalcoholic extract ofgginger with doses of 100, 350, 700 mg/kg, ranitidine (50 mg/kg), sucralfate (500 mg/kg) and 5 ml/kg of vehicle were administered orally (p.o.) to separate groups of male Wistar rats. Other groups received vehicle (5 ml/kg), extract (300 mg/kg) and ranitidine (50 mg/kg) intraperitoneally (i.p.). After ulcer induction, the number, scoring, area and finally ulcer index were assessed for each duodenum. Administration of extract by i.p. or at chronic doses (350 mg/kg) and ranitidine (p.o. and i.p.) resulted in significant reduction in mucosal damage for the entire ulcer factors which were assessed. Larger doses of extract given p.o. (350 and 700 mg/kg) were effective to reduce both the ulcer area and index but the lowest dose of extract (100 mg/kg) was not effective. Taken together, we conclude that ginger hydroalcoholic extract was effective to protect against duodenal ulceration and for i.p. injection as well as chronic administration, the efficacy was comparable with ranitidine as reference drug.
Efficacy of a Combined Rosemary and Lavender Topical Ointment in the Treatment of Patients with Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Abstract: Background: One of the preservative treatments of knee osteoarthritis is the use of topical medications. This study is aimed to clinically evaluate the effect of topical products containing essential oils of rosemary and lavender herbs on the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Materials and Methods: Rosemary and lavender essential oils were prepared by steam distillation method and inserted into the ointment with the hydrophilic base. In this study, 15 patients with knee osteoarthritis were treated with this ointment for three months. The results were assessed using WOMAC and Lequesne indices and were evaluated by the Wilcoxon statistical test.Results: At the week of admission to the hospital, mean WOMAC index was equal to 71.4, mean Lequesne index was equal to 18 and the average time of passing through the distance of fifty feet by patients was equal to 19.4. After 4, 8 and 12 weeks, all these indices significantly decreased (p≤ 0.05). The WOMAC questionnaire denotative survey also showed that the pain and physical function at the 4th, 8th and 12th weeks were significantly less than the first week of admission (p≤ 0.05), but there was no significant difference as far as joint stiffness is concerned.Conclusion: Topical application of essential oils of rosemary and lavender herbs in a hydrophilic ointment base can be useful as a preservative treatment for the patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract: ObjectiveNeurodevelopmental disability is one of the most common problems of children referred to Pediatric Neurology Clinics. These children may suffer from speech delay, intellectual deficiency and behavioral disorder.Some patients with neurodevelopomental delay, especially those with intellectual disability and speech problems, have abnormal electroencephalograms, without clinical seizure. It seems that treating these patients with antiepileptic drugs normalizes the EEG, thereby preventing the electrical paroxysmal discharges that could be harmful for the developing brain. Several studies reported the use of Valproate, Lamotrigine and Corticosteroid in suppression of subclinical epileptiform discharges and improvement of developmental behavioral conditions.condition of children with neurodevelopmental delay and elimination of subclinical EEG discharges after 18 months of treatment.Also we used high dose intravenous methyl - prednisolone in a group of children with neurodevelopmental delay and electrical status epilepticus during slow - wave sleep without clinical seizure. In these children results of the appropriate neuro-metabolic tests and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed no abnormality. Because no underlying etiology could be determined, isolated non convulsive status epilepticus was established. After treatment nosignificant response was observed in these group of children.In another study we used Lamotrigine in children with neurodevelopmental delay, abnormal epileptiform discharges but without clinical seizures. Our results revealed Lamotrigine provides effective control of both subclinical epileptiform discharges and behavioral disorder, without improvement in their cognition. Further studies are needed to investigate and confirm the cognitive and behavioral effects of Lamotrigine in children with psychomotor retardation.
Nanoindentation Study of Al356-Al2O3 Nanocomposite Prepared by Ball Milling  [PDF]

Abstract: In this study ball milling of Al356 and Al2O3 powder mixture was carried out in order to produce Al356-Al2O3 nano-composite containing 20 vol.% Al2O3. The structural evolution and morphological changes of powder particles during ball milling were studied by X-ray diffractometery and scanning electron microscopy analysis. As a result of ball milling Al2O3 particles were uniformly dispersed in Al356 matrix. Furthermore the crystallite size of the Al356 decreased to 25 nm after ball milling for 10 h. Morphological studies of powder particles indicated that the powder particle size continuously decreases with increasing milling time. Hardness and elastic modulus values of powder particles were measured by nanoindentation method. It was found that the hardness and elastic modulus of Al356-20 vol.% Al2O3 nanocomposite were about 216 Hv and 86 GPa, respectively which is higher than 75 Hv and 74 GPa for as-received Al356.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose DQMR algorithm for the Drazin-inverse solution of consistent or inconsistent linear systems of the form Ax=b where \"\"?is a?singular and in general non-hermitian matrix that has an arbitrary index. DQMR algorithm for singular systems is analogous to QMR algorithm for non-singular systems. We compare this algorithm with DGMRES by numerical experiments.

Abstract: On the basis of new findings and some evidences related to porphyry mineralization, the exploration region of Bidkhan is considered as a promising mineral region for discovery of porphyry sort deposits. The findings from various sections indicate that diverse topological events in a zonal and regional time span have resulted in physiochemical (thermodynamic) systems leading to expansive alterations (metamorphism) and mineralization in the central region of Bidkhan area. Alterations such as Propylitic, Silicating, Argillic, Phyllic and even Potassic concentrates at an area of about 10 km2 together with such structures as fissures have created the required and suitable condition for the formation of thermodynamic systems. Such systems are related to mineralization fluids mineralizer that accompanies the sort of activities that are clearly indicative of the existence of an active igneous source all forming a terrene at Bidkhan region which is very similar to mineralization porphyry systems.
The Study of the Effects of the Increasing Exchange Rate on Country Industries Export

Abstract: In today's world that globalization is one of the most developments in process each country needs to commercial strategy to stay in global markets and gain more market share or at least to keep present situation and this is demands that country would have exact knowledge about the structure of market and the development in any part of time. Otherwise, it's going out from competition circulation in new world convergence movement. In the free economy, exchange rate have a key role in keeping or eliminating on important part of home industries as non-optimal exchange rate shows welfare negative effects through eliminating home industries competition power and waste of capital and unemployment. So, beneficent of exporters, importers and exchange rate are 3 sides of a triangle that has become one of the most controversial of economic issues. So in this study, we first by examining the concentration index between large industries of Iran, examine the quality of market distribution between present organizations in the industry and after knowing their effects and separate industries in to competition levels and monopoly, we will examine the effects of increasing exchange rate on export at each group of separated industries. For this reason, we specified export supply function to them and in next level will proceed to evaluate this effects with use of panel data procedure. In this study, statistical sociology is 2 digit subgroups of industry in last international classification emending of occupation (ISIC) and examined in period of 2000-2008. Observed results indicates that export exchange rate do as a incentive export and has meaningful effect in exchange income and tension export in comparison with increasing exchange rate that is more than industries with high concentration rate in competitive industries.

Abstract: In this study with the use of shephard lema function, share of each factor of production in total costs has been estimated and with the use of these estimates price elasticity's and cross elasticity's have been achieved. Also in this study, Allen elasticity have been estimated. As Allen elasticity are explanatory factors showing changes in the ratio of all factors (due to price change of one of the factors of production) utilization of factors of production has been considered. The factors of production in this study are capital and labor force. The statistical society in this research is a large workshop with 100 personals and more. This classification is according to the latest international classification for the industrial large workshops (2000-2008).
