Is the indigenous school gendered? Investigation about the life of Xakriabá women and female teachers
Isis Aline Vale Teixeira
Práxis Educativa , 2012,
Abstract: The schooling and literacy process among the indigenous people Xakriabá in the northern region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is analyzed through the gender perspective. Statistical data on the indigenous school of the Xakriabá people and brief descriptions of their daily life are forwarded. Investigation demonstrates that, although the Xakriabá indigene school and the Brazilian non-indigene school converge with regard to better schooling progress in women and to the feminization of the professorship (although not in hierarchical commanding posts), different meanings exist within the schooling process and literacy. In fact, they were installed within contexts with specific social, cultural and economical dynamics.

Clinics , 2012, DOI: 10.6061/clinics/2012(04)05
Abstract: objectives: during the 2009 influenza a h1n1 pandemic, it became difficult to differentiate viral infections from other conditions in patients admitted to the intensive care unit. we sought to evaluate the behavior and diagnostic utility of procalcitonin, c-reactive protein and four other molecules in patients with suspected 2009 influenza a h1n1 infection. methods: the serum levels of procalcitonin, c-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor α, interferon γ, interleukin 1β, and interleukin 10 were tested on admission and on days 3, 5, and 7 in 35 patients with suspected 2009 h1n1 infection who were admitted to two icus. results: twelve patients had confirmed 2009 influenza a h1n1 infections, 6 had seasonal influenza infections, and 17 patients had negative swabs. the procalcitonin levels at inclusion and on day 3, and the c-reactive protein levels on day 3 were higher among subjects with 2009 influenza a h1n1 infections. the baseline levels of interleukin 1b were higher among the 2009 influenza a h1n1 patients compared with the other groups. the c-reactive protein levels on days 3, 5, and 7 and procalcitonin on days 5 and 7 were greater in non-surviving patients. conclusion: higher levels of procalcitonin, c-reactive protein and interleukin-1β might occur in critically ill patients who had a 2009 h1n1 infection. neither procalcitonin nor crp were useful in discriminating severe 2009 h1n1 pneumonia. higher levels of crp and procalcitonin appeared to identify patients with worse outcomes.

Prediction of soil chemical attributes using optical remote sensing
Genú, Aline Marques;Demattê, José Alexandre Melo;
Acta Scientiarum. Agronomy , 2011, DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v33i4.7975
Abstract: soil fertility variability management is one of the pioneering and important areas in which precision agriculture has been commercially applied. consequently, the objective of this work was to predict soil chemical attributes through spectral responses. the 1,000 ha study area used for this report was located in uberlandia, mg, brazil. thirty sampling points were established, at which the soil was collected at 3 different depths. the samples were chemically and physically analyzed and the radiometric data obtained in the 400 - 2500 nm range. multiple regression equations were generated for sum of bases, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, aluminum saturation, ph, p, k, ca, mg, al, and h, all using 60 soil samples. h, al, m%, and ph were found to have r2 values less than 0.50. equations with an r2 > 0.50 for the other attributes were tested for the 30 unknown soil samples, and the estimated values were obtained. these values were then compared with those determined by conventional analysis. the coefficients of correlation were higher than 50% for all attributes except p and v%. results indicated that determining chemical attributes with models that are specific for the region is feasible.

Genú, Aline Marques;Demattê, José A. M.;
Bragantia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87052012005000005
Abstract: the aim of this study was to characterize and compare the spectral behavior of different soil classes obtained by orbital and terrestrial sensors. for this, an area of 184 ha in rafard (sp) brazil was staked on a regular grid of 100x100 m and soil samples were collected and georeferenced. after that, soil spectral curves were obtained with iris sensor and the sample points were overlaid at landsat and aster images for spectral data collection. the soil samples were classified and mean soil curves for all sensors were generated by soil classes. the soil classes were differentiated by texture, organic matter and total iron for all sensors studied, the orbital sensors despite the lower spectral resolution, maintained the characteristics of the soil and the curves of reflectance intensity.

Genú, Aline Marques;Demattê, José Alexandre M.;
Bragantia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87052010000100020
Abstract: the obtention of soil quantitative information by non destructive techniques, like remote sensing and digital elevation model (dem) open a possibility of faster and cheaper evaluation on soil studies. this study aims at verifying the possibility of quantifying soil atributtes through aster orbital sensor data and topographic features. the study area, with 184 ha, located in rafard county, s?o paulo state, brazil, was sampled in a grid way collecting 1 sample/ha. reflectance data was obtained from aster image and topographic features from dem. then, using orbital an topographic data were generated a multiple regression equation for soil attributes. the dependent variables were selected by a forward stepwise method. after that, the models with r2 > 0.50 were tested with unknown soil samples and the estimated values (ve) and the determined values (vd) were evaluated through scatterplots. sio2, fe2o3, tio2 and clay attributes were tested and, fe2o3 and clay obtained higher values of determination coefficient. it is conclude that the models generated with spectral data and topographic information allowed the quantification of the above cited soil components.
