The aim of this paper was to determine the effectiveness of neodymium YAG laser (Nd-YAG laser) on performing the posterior capsulotomy in 150 patients (eyes) operated on of senile or presenile cataract at the Center of Serial Ocular Microsurgery (CSOM) of "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Ophthalmological Teaching Hospital from February to December 1999.
Abstract: a telemedicine program was made in the specialty of ophthalmology in cuba and in the world, in march, 1999, between "ramón pando ferrer ophthalmological teaching hospital and the university of indiana. in spite of the distance separating both countries, the digital consultation allowed the scientific exchange, whose objectives established accurate diagnoses and therapeutic conduct by images of patients with different types of strabismus.
Parálisis traumática del recto inferior

Revista Cubana de Oftalmolog?-a , 2010,
Abstract: paralysis represents a complete interruption of muscular action due to problems in enervation in charge of motility, unlike paresia in which the effect is partial. the isolated inferior rectus muscle paralysis is infrequent and is characterized by the affected eye hypertropia that increases in abduction. the patient presents vertical diplopia that increases when he looks down and out, he can also suffer torticollis which depresses his chin. this is a disease that must not be ignored in patients with orbit floor traumatism. a patient went to see the doctor with vertical diplopia for 7 months. the ocular motility exam disclosed 15 ° × hirshberg hypertrophy, 30 dp inferior base by prism bar and marked torticollis with restricted depression. the definitive diagnosis was a traumatic paralysis of the right inferior rectus muscle due to a direct lesion. the treatment was total transposition of the medial and lateral rectus muscle to the right inferior rectus muscle following the tillaux horizontal spiral, with the objective of reaching the eye's alignment and eliminating the anomalous position of the head. one kept in mind that the prolonged paralysis of the inferior rectus muscle may provoke contracture of the ipsilateral upper rectus, thus limiting the depression on abduction and adduction.
Naranjo Fernández,Rosa M.; Méndez Sánchez,Teresita de J.; Pedroso Llanes,Alina; Pons,Lucy;
Revista Cubana de Oftalmolog?-a , 2004,
Abstract: a descriptive and retrospective study of 71 patients with hyperfunction of the bilateral inferior oblique that received attention at the service of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus of "ramón pando ferrer" ophthalmological hospital was conducted. 26 of them underwent myectomy with cauterization of the extremitates, whereas in the other 45 myectomy under direct visualization was performed. they were operated on from january 1998 to january 2003. a preoperative and postoperative assessment of the hyperfunction of the inferior oblique was made. 72 % were grouped in an age range from 1 to 10 years old, and 55 % had a diagnosis of esotropia with hypertropia. no relapse was observed in the patients that underwent myectomy with cauterization of the extremitates under direct visualization.
