Strategy for Self-Centered Development from the Perspective of an Historical Analysis of Development
Alfredo Pérez Sánchez
Revista CIDOB d'Afers Internacionals , 1998,
Abstract: After acknowledging the three phases of historical analysis of development, and especially considering the research work done in the last twenty-five years by the Germans Dieter Sengcheus and Ulrich Mezel, the author presents the principle elements of a self-centered development strategy which highlights the following perspectives:dissociation, economic restructuring, and the new forms of an international division of labor among Third World economies.This document calls into question the underlying operation of the conventional theory of development and its current policy, which call for the increasing integration of the Third World in the world market as a means of going beyond development as it is commonly understood. Though being an integral element in the theory of self-centereddevelopment, temporary dissociation from the world market is proposed. The justification for the strategy of dissociation, excepting the recourse to some historical and paradigmatic reflections sketched by Friedrich List, has kept itself, of necessity, to the global and abstract level. This position is nothing, however, but a most direct analytical result deduced fromthe principle theoretical beginnings and the empirical observations of both the Theory of Dependence and Peripheral Capitalism. Although the review vents its criticism on (and mainly questions the practicality of) the aforesaid conception, a more penetratingunderstanding of what the wager for such a strategy entails is found. Thus, the notion of self-centered development influences and gives impulse to a most extensive ideologicallymarked debate about the alternative conceptions of development.
Pérez, Alfredo;Fabré, Nidia Noemi;
Acta Amazonica , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0044-59672003000300015
Abstract: the goal of this study was to identify the best calcified structure for determination of the age of the piracatinga (calophysus macropterus). a total of 440 specimens from commercial samples and experimental fishing in the solim?es river. were used for analysis: opercula, otoliths, and vertebrae were analyzed from a sub sample (n=130). two clarification techniques were used for visualization of growth rings in the otoliths and four coloration techniques for vertebrae. the otoliths were not translucent and it was very difficult to see the growth rings. the vertebrae were the best calcified structure because the radius of the vertebrae and the length of fish had clear significant linear relationship (r= 0.91; p<0.05) and a clear visualization of the growth rings. among the techniques used for examining vertebrae of the teleostean fishes, the chemical decalcification, hyper-oxidation technique, was the best to observe the growth rings in the vertebrae. the seasonal rings were validated using relative marginal incremental analysis. two annual rings are formed in the vertebrae of calophysus macropterus, being the first during low water (august) and the second during high water season (january). on the vertebrae, a maximum of seven rings were observed.

Abstract: The flood of October 19, 1879 that affected the Segura River basin marks a turning point in defense policy at the international level boulevards. A disastrous natural event features agrees to all stakeholders of the time to conduct the first comprehensive plan to protect against floods nationwide. After seventy years from the commissioning of the system, a new flood, the October, 1948, shows the deterioration of the works undertaken and the need to update security thresholds that the processes of occupation had transgressed. The present work aims to characterize an episode little known as 20 to October 23, 1948 but which nevertheless, had a singular impact on the performance improvement of safety, security and territorial control analysis.
Meza Pérez, Alfredo;Rodríguez Pati?o, Enrique;
Gaceta médica de México , 2004,
Abstract: use injections of illicit material to improve body contour is still a health problem in mexico. most commonly used are oily materials that in many patients may cause aesthetic and incapacitating functional complications. the case of a 32-year-old homosexual male patient is reported; he was injected with 80 cc of mineral oil in each mamma, which caused an important inflammatory reaction, growth, and severe ptosis of these. he was in apparent general good shape; thus, he was treated with bilateral subcutaneous mastectomy and free full-thickness nipple-areola complex graft. we consider that this pathology remains a current health problem that should alert health authorities to take preventive measures with regard to its administration.
