A Nonlinear Inequality Arising in Geometry and Calabi-Bernstein Type Problems
Romero Alfonso,Rubio RafaelM
Journal of Inequalities and Applications , 2010,
Abstract: A characterization for the entire solutions of a nonlinear inequality, which has a natural interpretation in terms of certain nonflat Robertson-Walker spacetimes, is given. As an application, new Calabi-Bernstein type problems are solved.
Pérez Romero,Luis Alfonso;
Revista Salud Uninorte , 2008,
Abstract: the geomarketing of health is useful in defining health policies in search of greater psychosocial well-being and social integration of people with the same geographic space, hence the limits of geographical and political division between communities is important for control and management of epidemics, endemic diseases and pandemics. the geographical location (space occupied by a person and his peers) in a defined time, shows similar profiles manifests in cultural habits, customs and behavioral patterns similar. with this information in a timely manner and as accurate as possible will be able to carry out the activities of health promotion and disease prevention that will lead to a sustainable welfare of the population. it is recommendable to any offer of health services, track direct and indirect competition from the place with their demand on health services, as well as for designing or offering the services of value to be directed at a target market that is sustainable and sustainable. this paper shows a methodology to locate geomarketing supply, needs, desires and demands of public health services and private help in designing strategic plans for marketing in health.

Compact spacelike surfaces whose mean curvature function satisfies a nonlinear inequality in a 3-dimensional Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetime
Alfonso Romero,Rafael M. Rubio
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: Spacelike surfaces in Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes whose mean curvature function satisfies a natural nonlinear inequality are analyzed. Several uniqueness and nonexistence results for such compact spacelike surfaces are proved. In the nonparametric case, new Calabi-Bernstein type problems are solved as a consequence.
On spacelike surfaces in 4-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski spacetime through a lightcone
Francisco J. Palomo,Alfonso Romero
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: On any spacelike surface in a lightcone of four dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space a distinguished smooth function is considered. It is shown how both extrinsic and intrinsic geometry of such a surface is codified by this function. The existence of a local maximum is assumed to decide when the spacelike surface must be totally umbilical, deriving a Liebmann type result. Two remarkable families of examples of spacelike surfaces in a lightcone are explicitly constructed. Finally, several results which involve the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator of a compact spacelike surface in a lightcone are obtained.
Scientific impact evaluation and the effect of self-citations: mitigating the bias by discounting h-index
Emilio Ferrara,Alfonso E. Romero
Computer Science , 2012, DOI: 10.1002/asi.22976
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a measure to assess scientific impact that discounts self-citations and does not require any prior knowledge on the their distribution among publications. This index can be applied to both researchers and journals. In particular, we show that it fills the gap of h-index and similar measures that do not take into account the effect of self-citations for authors or journals impact evaluation. The paper provides with two real-world examples: in the former, we evaluate the research impact of the most productive scholars in Computer Science (according to DBLP); in the latter, we revisit the impact of the journals ranked in the 'Computer Science Applications' section of SCImago. We observe how self-citations, in many cases, affect the rankings obtained according to different measures (including h-index and ch-index), and show how the proposed measure mitigates this effect.
Vicente Romero,Juan; Cortina G,Hernando Alfonso;
Revista Colombiana de Entomología , 2007,
Abstract: the life tables of hypothenemus hampei were elaborated and compared on the coffee accessions coffea liberica , coffea arabica ccc 534 and the susceptible variety caturra , in order to find sources of resistance to this insect under controlled conditions ( 26oc ± 1, 75% ± 5 r. h.). two assays were performed: in the first, the development of the immature stages was followed and survival was estimated. in the second, adult survival and fecundity were determined using 36- day old females. the duration of the cycle for ccc 534, c . liberica and caturra was similar: total 20 days, egg four, first instar four, second instar six, prepupa two and pupa four days, approximately. the number of accumulated eggs in the three accessions fit quadratic functions. the confidence intervals (95%) showed significant differences between the accessions and the control: ccc 534 32 ± 2, c . liberica 28 ± 2 and caturra 42 ± 2 eggs per female. the sex ratios were 9.2, 9.8, and 9.8 male: female, respectively. there was no difference in survival (range 58-63%) up to 72 days for the three accessions. there were differences in the net reproductive rate (ro) among caturra (25 ± 1 eggs), ccc 534 (18 ± 2), and c. liberica (15 ± 2); in the intrinsic rate of increase (r) (0.073 ± 0.001, 0.065 ± 0.002, 0.057 ± 0.003, respectively), and the duplication time (10 ± 0.2, 11 ± 0.4, 12 ± 0.6 days). in the generation time there was only a differences between caturra and c. liberica (45 ± 0.4, 47 ± 0.8, respectively).
Tablas de vida de Hypothenemus hampei (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) sobre tres introducciones de café Life tables of Hypothenemus hampei ( Coleoptera : Curculionidae : Scolytinae ) on three coffee accessions

The life tables of Hypothenemus hampei were elaborated and compared on the coffee accessions Coffea liberica , Coffea arabica CCC 534 and the susceptible variety Caturra , in order to find sources of resistance to this insect under controlled conditions ( 26oC ± 1, 75% ± 5 R.
