Third sector and innovation: experiences, challenges and opportunities Tercer Sector e innovación: experiencias, desafíos y oportunidades
Alfonso Carlos Morales Gutiérrez
Revista Internacional de Organizaciones , 2011,
Abstract: The present study aims to analyze various cases of innovative behaviour in the third sector which exploit the potential of the new information and communication technologies. The study is divided into several stages. First we list some specific features of innovation in the third sector, which help to understand this innovation in its context. Second, we describe various types of innovation that can be implemented by these sorts of institution and illustrate them with some recent examples. Finally we finish with a series of conclusions and reflections about the need for institutions to plan for innovation at the strategic level and, therefore, focus on it not as something desirable but as a priority.
Arbor : Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura , 2000,
Tercer sector y univocidad conceptual: necesidad y elementos configuradores
Escobar, Julio Jiménez;Gutiérrez, Alfonso Carlos Morales;
Revista Katálysis , 2008,
Abstract: this study emphasizes the importance of a univocal concept of the third sector. it first justifies the conceptual importance of univocality from a epistemological perspective and for the study of social facts (as an object of knowledge). secondly, it argues the need for univocality since the concept is relevant to various public policies, and because it influences the integration of agents who contribute to social change. finally, it looks at the divisions that can both confine social space and characterize the particularities of the entities that operate within it.
Tercer sector y univocidad conceptual: necesidad y elementos configuradores Terceiro setor e univocidade conceitual: necessidade e elementos configuradores The third sector and conceptual univocality: necessity and essential elements

The “Bullied” Manager: An Empirical Study of Individual, Organizational and Contextual Factors

International Business and Management , 2011,
Abstract: : The aim of this paper is to study the determinants of workplace bullying in a group of employees with a privileged position within the company: managers. First of all, we define the phenomenon. After, we make a review of literature with the object to set related variables in a global model of workplace bullying. A sample population of 608 managers was obtained from the microdata file of the last European Working Conditions Survey (European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions). The methodology used to achieve our research objectives is based on the binary logistic regression model. With this statistical technique we determine the probability of the occurrence of an event-workplace bullying in this case-compared to the probability of the occurrence of the opposite event. The global model is integrated by individual, organizational and contextual factors and predicts the likelihood of workplace bullying in 68% (61.6% between bullied managers and 75.9% between non bullied managers). The resulting model for managers is similar to models of workplace bullying for employees in general. Key words: Workplace bullying; Power; Harassment; Mobbing; Managers
The emotional involvement in the workplace: An empirical study
Ana María Lucia-Casademunt,Alfonso Carlos Morales-Gutiérrez,Jose Antonio Ariza-Montes
Intangible Capital , 2012,
Abstract: Purpose: In a multitude of studies, it is verified that the generation of positive attitudes for employees such as job satisfaction or job involvement, have a positive influence on productivity levels of companies. The current investigation focus on the identification of employee-profile -who is emotionally involved with their work activity- through the use of a set of individual, job related and attitudinal factors.Design/methodology: A review of the literature about the main factors that affect the job involvement particularly on its emotional dimension has been completed. For its measurement at the empirical level, various items related to psychological well being of employees included in the IV European Working Conditions Survey-2010 are used. Moreover, those items are identified in Job Involvement Questionnaire (Lodahl & Kejner, 1965). Since then, an empirical and multidimensional study is carried out by applying a logistic regression model on the sample of 11,149 employees obtained with European survey cited previously.Findings: The logistic regression model identifies the factors, which are directly related to emotional involvement at the workplace. Ultimately, is raised a definitive model that define the European employee-profile -who is emotionally involved at the workplace-: a rather aged person who has been working at his/her present place of employment for several years in a medium-sized company where possibly there exist a good working relationship between workers and their superiors –social support-. These employees are “white-collar” workers, have career advancement opportunities in the organizational hierarchy. They perform variety, flexible and complex tasks, which leads to satisfaction in terms of pay and working conditions.Research limitations/implications: Emotional involvement has been measured through self-awareness and, therefore, the corresponding bias in the key variable must be assumed. In addition, the casual relationship between emotional involvement and the variables taken into account in our study must be relativized, as the data under study are cross-sectional and not experimental.Originality/value: A global emotional involvement model has been estimated with which was confirmed the impact of the individual, job related or situational factors for both employees emotionally involved and those not involved.

Abstract: the objective of this article is to describe and understand coping strategies for facing a crisis caused by unemployment in families with adolescent children in the city of bogota. the conceptual framework for the study is the systemic approach that facilitates a relational and profound understanding of the problems dealt with. the social interpretative approach, based on the principles of social constructivism was the method used in the study, taking into account the relation with second order cybernetics. the qualitative strategy implemented consisted of in depth interviews carried out with six families and triangulated with mc cubbin, larsen, and olson?s scale of personal evaluation of family functioning in crisis situations (f-copes). the main purpose of the scale is to record effective attitudes and behaviours when having to solve a problem. the study concluded that the way in which a family system interprets its reality determines whether or not a crisis will emerge. the coping strategies most used by families were problem restructuring, spiritual support and passive assessment. the strategies that were least implemented included receiving social support such as charity and mobilizing to obtain and accept support.
