Abstract: Este trabalho tem por objetivo conhecer a dinamica do alinhamento estratégico entre indústrias de bens de capital – mecanicos – e de alimentos, segundo a abordagem de Miles & Snow. Considerou-se aindústria de alimentos como cliente e direcionador estratégico para a de bens de capital (fornecedor). A pesquisa, de cunho qualitativo, fundamentou-se em entrevistas em profundidade com gestores de seis empresas fabricantes de máquinas e equipamentos, e seis empresas da indústria de alimentos. Além disso, realizou-se um Focus Group com seis gestores, sendo três de cada setor. Após a transcri o,os dados coletados e tratados pela análise de conteúdo revelaram os seguintes aspectos: (a) a rela o do contexto ambiental com a estrutura, processos organizacionais internos e sistemas de manufatura; (b) evidências de alinhamento estratégico segundo a dinamica do modelo do ciclo adaptativo proposto por Miles & Snow, que pressup e que as organiza es se desenvolvem de acordo com padr esde comportamento estratégico para coalinhar a organiza o ao ambiente.
Alinhamento das prioridades competitivas entre compradores e vendedores de máquinas e equipamentos

Abstract: this aim of this study is to verify the competitive priority alignment between buyers and machine & equipment users for food processing and its equipment suppliers. based on an exploratory and descriptive research, was applied a structured questionnaire having as subject the purchase, sale and production managers. there were altogether 77 answers obtained from food processing managers and 55 from equipment manufacturer managers. the obtained data were analyzed according to descriptive statistic and to non-parametric test of bivariate correlation, which revealed that: a) in the scope of relationship between food processing and equipment manufacturer, the quality factor was the competitive priority aligned between them; b) in the scope of buyers and machine & equipment users, there was evidence the trade-off between the variables stock reduction and quickly delivery. the results allowed concluding that: a) the quality is a factor of alignment to internal and external environment; b) the trade-off is used as an instrumental to achieve the competitive priority alignment in the internal environment of the buyer and machine & equipment users for food processing.

Abstract: Este trabalho tem por objetivo verificar o alinhamento das prioridades competitivas entre empresas compradoras e usuárias de máquinas e equipamentos para a fabrica o de produtos alimentícios e seus fornecedores industriais. Está fundamentado em uma pesquisa exploratória descritiva em que se aplicou um questionário estruturado junto a gestores das áreas relacionadas a compras, vendas e produ o das empresas. Foram obtidas 77 respostas de gestores de empresas fabricantes de alimentos e 55 de fabricantes de equipamentos. Os dados, submetidos à estatística descritiva e à correla o bivariada n o paramétrica, revelaram que: a) no ambito do relacionamento entre compradores e vendedores de máquinas e equipamentos, o fator qualidade foi a prioridade competitiva alinhada entre eles; b) no ambito de empresas usuárias de máquinas e equipamentos, houve evidência de trade-off entre as variáveis reduzir estoques e velocidade de entrega rápida. Essas revela es permitiram concluir que: a) a qualidade é um fator de alinhamento externo e interno; b) o trade-off é usado como um instrumento para o alinhamento das prioridades competitivas no ambiente interno das empresas compradoras e usuárias de máquinas e equipamentos.

Improving Rule Base Quality to Enhance Production Systems Performance  [PDF]

Abstract: Production systems have a special value since they are used in state-space searching algorithms and expert systems in addition to their use as a model for problem solving in artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is of high importance to consider different techniques to improve their performance. In this research, rule base is the component of the production system that we aim to focus on. This work therefore seeks to investigate this component and its relationship with other components and demonstrate how the improvement of its quality has a great impact on the performance of the production system as a whole. In this paper, the improvement of rule base quality is accomplished in two steps. The first step involves re-writing the rules having conjunctions of literals and producing a new set of equivalent rules in which long inference chains can be obtained easily. The second step involves augmenting the rule base with inference short-cut rules devised from the long inference chains. These inference short-cut rules have a great impact on the performance of the production system. Finally, simulations are performed on randomly generated rule bases with different sizes and goals to be proved. The simulations demonstrate that the suggested enhancements are very beneficial in improving the performance of production systems.
Counterproductive Effect of Saccadic Suppression during Attention Shifts

Abstract: During saccadic eye movements, the processing of visual information is transiently interrupted by a mechanism known as “saccadic suppression” [1] that is thought to ensure perceptual stability [2]. If, as proposed in the premotor theory of attention [3], covert shifts of attention rely on sub-threshold recruitment of oculomotor circuits, then saccadic suppression should also occur during covert shifts. In order to test this prediction, we designed two experiments in which participants had to orient towards a cued letter, with or without saccades. We analyzed the time course of letter identification score in an “attention” task performed without saccades, using the saccadic latencies measured in the “saccade” task as a marker of covert saccadic preparation. Visual conditions were identical in all tasks. In the “attention” task, we found a drop in perceptual performance around the predicted onset time of saccades that were never performed. Importantly, this decrease in letter identification score cannot be explained by any known mechanism aligned on cue onset such as inhibition of return, masking, or microsaccades. These results show that attentional allocation triggers the same suppression mechanisms as during saccades, which is relevant during eye movements but detrimental in the context of covert orienting.

Abstract: Passive source localization is a well known inverse problem in which we convert the observed measurements into information about the direction of arrivals. In this paper we focus on the optimal resolution of such problem. More precisely, we propose in this contribution to derive and analyze the Angular Resolution Limit (ARL) for the scenario of mixed Near-Field (NF) and Far-Field (FF) Sources. This scenario is relevant to some realistic situations. We base our analysis on the Smith's equation which involves the Cram\'er-Rao Bound (CRB). This equation provides the theoretical ARL which is independent of a specific estimator. Our methodology is the following: first, we derive a closed-form expression of the CRB for the considered problem. Using these expressions, we can rewrite the Smith's equation as a 4-th order polynomial by assuming a small separation of the sources. Finally, we derive in closed-form the analytic ARL under or not the assumption of low noise variance. The obtained expression is compact and can provide useful qualitative informations on the behavior of the ARL.

Abstract:

With the globalization of markets, the multinational production made obvious great strides marked by the proliferation of hybrid or bi-national products. In this context which supported the dissolution of identity of several products’ categories and called in question the weight of origin labels about the consumer behavior purchase. Beyond these reflections, this article proposed to wonder about the relation between globalization and product ethnicity, by analyzing the apparent effects of the current context of globalization on the establishment of stereotypic country-products associations by the consumers. Also, the question which is directed to the development and the presentation of this research is the following one: to what extend does the current context of globalization enable us to call in question the phenomenon of product ethnicity?

Abstract:

The modern nonlinear theory, bifurcation and chaos theory are used in this paper to analyze the dynamics of the Rikitake two-disk dynamo system. The mathematical model of the Rikitake system consists of three nonlinear differential equations, which found to be the same as the mathematical model of the well-known Lorenz system. The study showed that under certain value of control parameter, the system experiences a chaotic behaviour. The experienced chaotic oscillation may simulate the reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field. The main objective of this paper is to control the chaotic behaviour in Rikitake system. So, a nonlinear controller based on the slide mode control theory is designed. The study showed that the designed controller was so effective in controlling the unstable chaotic oscillations.
